Chapter 147: Garran join the group

"Of course I can teach you," Cain replied with an smile, "but have you learned the basics yet?"

"I haven't. Why does that matter?" Ayla asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion.

Cain shook his head slowly and chuckled. "You haven't even learned the basics yet. How could you possibly jump straight into mastering the strongest skill?"

He paused for a moment before adding, "Go ask the others to teach you the basics first. Once you've built a solid foundation and gotten strong enough, I'll teach you how to use my skill at that time."

"Hmmm, why not just learn directly from you?" Ayla mused, putting a finger on her chin as she thought that it would be better to learn from the strongest.

"Well," Cain answered, "I could teach you, but it'd be exactly the same as if you learned from everyone else. Also, I'm busy right now and if I don't keep working, I won't earn enough money. We wouldn't be able to keep up with your appetite," he teased with a smirk as he gently pinched Ayla's cheek.

He then continued with a playful glint in his eye, "But if you really want me to teach you the basics personally, that means I'll have no time to make money. So we could do that, but you'd only get to eat once a day. What do you think?"

At the mention of having only one meal daily, Ayla let out a short gasp. "I'll ask the others, then!" she exclaimed as she immediately jumped on the ground before heading straight toward Fenix.

Everyone shook their heads when they watched the conversation between the two, but Fenix immediately shivered when he noticed the lively "little demon" was approaching him as she spread her arms widely and called his name.

"Ouch, it still hurts," Fenix groaned, clutching his chest as though the pain from his previous battle had suddenly flared up again.

Ayla abruptly halted; she had been ready to launch herself at Fenix in an enthusiastic hug. Now, she looked genuinely worried instead. "Uncle Fenix, are you alright?" she asked, tilting her head in concern.

Fenix slowly shook his head, keeping up the pained expression. "No, not yet. I haven't recovered. Sorry, but I can't teach you right now." He nodded toward Dante. "Why don't you go ask Dante first? I'll help you out after I've healed up."

While speaking, Fenix shot a quick side glare at Dante as he gave an unspoken command for him to deal with the "little demon" at the moment. Clearly, Fenix wasn't in the mood to be pestered by the little demon just yet.

"Okay… Get well soon, Uncle Fenix," Ayla replied with a sympathetic smile, then dashed off toward her next target.

Cain shook his head before giving Fenix a look since he needed him by his side to meet Garran and his protector.

Because in case something unexpected that would be unlikely happening, such as Garran's protector going to attack him out of nowhere, he had Fenix to react in time before he would use his bloodline power since he was sure that he wouldn't be able to react fast enough if Garran's protector would attack him in a close distance.

Naturally, Cain was just playing it safe. Better to have an extra layer of security, since there was no real downside. After all, as the saying goes, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Before long, Cain and Fenix arrived in front of Garran and his protector. Cain greeted Garran with a bright smile. "Long time no see, my friend. Sorry for making you wait for a while."

"Hahaha, don't worry about it," Garran responded, waving his hand dismissively.

Cain raised an eyebrow. "I've been wanting to ask—why did you follow Lucan earlier?"

"Oh, that," Garran replied with a chuckle. "I was simply curious. They all left so suddenly after a private discussion, so I decided to tag along and see what was happening."

He paused, then shrugged. "I had a hunch that they were probably after you. Honestly, if I'd seen you as unworthy of my help, I would have backed off right away and definitely wouldn't have lent them a hand."

Leaning forward slightly, Garran added, "You know how cruel this world can be. One false step, and you end up like Lucan and his group. That's why I make sure to be careful with everything I do."

Cain couldn't help but laugh. Garran's frank manner was surprising as he thought that Garran shouldn't be the type to sugarcoat his words or hide his intentions.

His laughter subsiding, Cain's expression turned serious. "Aren't you worried that speaking so openly could make me angry?" he asked, looking Garran with a direct look.

Sensing potential danger, Butler Zen, who stood near Garran, immediately tensed up. He gathered his strength, fully prepared to whisk Garran away at the slightest sign of hostility from either Cain or Fenix.

"If telling you the truth would infuriate you," Garran answered with a wry smile, "then I guess I've just misjudged your character." He patted Butler Zen's shoulder to reassure him, confident that neither Cain nor Fenix intended to attack.

"Hahahaha, I like your style, my friend" Cain said, erupting into hearty laughter again. He walked up to Garran and gave his shoulder a good-natured pat. "If anyone from Lucan's family asks about what happened, just tell them I'm the one who killed him. Let them come find me directly."

Cain told him that was because if Lucan's family was looking for someone who killed Lucan, they would definitely go to Garran since people inside the Rose Blossom Pavilion knew that Garran was following Lucan along.

And since Garran had the intention to help him and even be sincere to him, he should take the initiative in doing what he should do as this mess was made by him in the first place.

"Alright, if that's what you want. Thanks," Garran said, nodding as he returned Cain's shoulder pat.

"Glad we got that sorted out." Cain smiled, then continued, "I'll take my leave again since I have something to do, as I've told you before."

"Fine by me—let's get moving," Garran replied without hesitation. He strode toward Cain's group as if he had always been part of it.

"…"

Cain was momentarily speechless, observing how smoothly Garran integrated himself into the group.

With a slightly apologetic look, Butler Zen turned to Cain as he scratched his head. "My apologies, Young Master Cain. He's always like this as he never asks whether he's bothering anyone. If you find it problematic, I can haul him away, even if it means using force."

Cain waved a hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it. The more, the merrier, right?" After all Garran had done, there was no way Cain would reject him.

As they traveled, Garran glanced around and then turned his attention to the Ice dragon beneath them. "What's his name? This is my first time riding a real dragon," he remarked excitedly, patting Nix's scales.

"That's Nix," Cain replied with a fond smile. "He's my contracted beast."

Garran's eyes widened at the revelation. He hadn't realized the majestic dragon was officially under Cain's contract.

A few moments later, as they were flying toward Lunovale City, Garran remembered he had no clue about Cain's intentions. "I just realized I don't even know where we're going or why. Care to explain it to me?"

Cain chuckled. "We're heading to Lunovale City for the auction at the Starlight Auction House."

"Oh, one of their smaller auctions, right? What's attracting you there?" Garran asked with a curious arch of his brow, suspecting something at the auction might be quite valuable.

Cain shrugged. "Honestly, it's mostly just for fun. That's all there is to it."

Garran lightly elbowed Cain's side, as though he didn't buy the explanation. "Come on, you must have a real reason. Is there something you're aiming to buy? Share a little with a friend, will you?"

Cain let out a resigned sigh. "If you insist. There is something that caught my eye, although you'd probably consider it unimportant."

"Oh? And what is it? Don't be secretive now!" Garran pressed, his eyes lighting up. He recalled how Cain had been in a bit of a hurry earlier, so he assumed it must be some extraordinary treasure.

Cain chuckled. "It's just a wolf cub. Nothing much, really."

"Tch," Garran clicked his tongue, clearly thinking Cain was either messing with him or withholding vital information. "If you don't want to tell me, just say so."

"I'm not joking." Cain shook his head. "I told you, I'm mostly going to this auction for fun. I even gave them a few items to auction off. It's not some grand scheme."

Before Garran could retort, Ayla suddenly chimed in. She jumped onto Cain's back, clinging like an excited child. "Big Brother Cain, you've already bought so many little beasts in the past. Why do you want another one now?"

Cain smiled, balancing her weight effortlessly. "I just felt like it, that's all."

"Is the little wolf cute?" she asked, eyes sparkling at the prospect of having another new friend.

Although Cain had purchased several beasts before, most were still untamed and not safe for her to play with. Hearing about a wolf cub made her think it might be a tame companion she could safely be around.

"Hold on—you're telling me the thing you're so eager to get is just a wolf cub?" Garran asked as he was still skeptical when he watched the exchange.

"Yup," Cain said with a nod. "Told you from the start."
