Spider-Man Mayhem

Chapter 248: Chapter 248: Fantastic Four (14)

[Third Person's PoV]

Spider-Man was sharing his perspective with the rest of the team, who were above the surface.

Scarlet Spider, ushering people into the church, looked on in disbelief. "Are you serious?" she muttered.

In the middle of the road, Nightwing stood with a pissed-off expression, holding multiple strands of webbing that stretched in every direction, anchoring buildings and keeping them stable. "Are you telling me that Fatso is responsible for this—and all because someone called him ugly?!"

Spider-Kat swung between the buildings Nightwing was supporting, reinforcing them with her webs. "Clearly, it's more than that... but yeah, this is taking things way too far."

Ghost-Spider flipped to the ground and reported to Spider-Man. "I'm going to try something. Find whatever's causing the tremors and shut it down. We'll join you as soon as we can."

She placed her hand on the ground, and a blue aura began to rise from her body. As Zero Point Energy pulsed outward in a wave, it sank into the ground, spreading through the entire earthquake radius. The tremors gradually slowed until they stopped completely. Sweat formed on her forehead as she struggled to maintain control.

"Find a way to stop it now..." she gritted out.

"You couldn't have done that earlier?" Spider-Kat sighed as she secured the last building. The surrounding structures were now blanketed in interconnected webs.

Nightwing finally released his hold on the webbing, rolling his shoulders with a heavy sigh.

"No... I can't hold on forever," Ghost-Spider said, her voice strained. "Since they're closed they should be able to put an end to it quickly."

Underground

Spider-Man, using his ability to detect electricity, sensed faint activity inside the statue that the Mole Man stood upon. Activating his X-ray vision, he examined the statue's inner workings.

The structure depicted the Mole Man raising a staff toward the ceiling—just like the real one he held. The entire statue was built around the machine responsible for the tremors, sending seismic waves upward through the staff and into the surface.

As Johnny and Firestar continued chuckling at the Mole Man's theatrics, Spider-Man pointed out his discovery.

"Cool. So I'll just blast it apart—" Johnny started cockily, only to be cut off by the Mole Man's shouting.

"Now then, my subordinates!! Your first orders—capture those three! They think I cannot detect them, snickering behind my back! They dare to mock me?! They must be punished! Let them serve as an example for the rest!!"

The Moloids—small, yellowish-orange creatures—snapped their heads toward the trio.

"Well, looks like we've been found out," Johnny said with a grin.

The Moloids let out clicking noises before rushing toward the walls, scaling them with ease. Their black claws dug into the surface as they climbed rapidly.

"Spider-Man!" Ghost-Spider's voice came through, harsh and strained.

"Oh, right—sorry, love," Spider-Man said apologetically.

He sprang into action, firing a web toward the stomach of the large statue. The Mole Man's eyes widened as he followed the web's trajectory as he wasn't exactly expecting them.

Lightning crackled across Spider-Man's body as he launched himself toward the statue, legs stretched out.

BOOM!

A blue blur shot through the air as Spider-Man crashed into the statue, shattering it completely. A gaping hole tore through the structure as sparks erupted from within. Landing in his signature crouch on the opposite wall, he watched as cracks spread across the statue's surface.

The entire structure trembled.

"Woah! Woah!" the Mole Man yelped, flailing his arms in an attempt to regain balance. But the hand supporting him split apart beneath him.

"AHHHHHH!! CATCH ME! AS YOUR KING, I COMMAND YOU!!"

A cluster of Moloids scurried beneath their falling leader, piling up just in time to break his fall. The Mole Man tumbled from the pile and hit the ground, rolling to a stop on all fours. He panted heavily, his body shaking with rage.

He gritted his teeth, raised his staff toward Spider-Man, and roared, "GET THEM! DO NOT LET THEM ESCAPE!!"

At the same time, Johnny noticed the Moloids gathering at the entrance above them and smirked.

"FLAME ON!!"

A burst of fire engulfed his body, illuminating the cavern with a blinding flash of light. The Moloids, accustomed to the dim underground, recoiled and staggered backward, losing their grip. One by one, they tumbled off the cliff they had climbed.

Johnny blasted into the air, fire trailing behind him as he hurled flaming spheres toward the Moloids below. "IT'S TIME TO TURN UP THE HEAT!!"

"Ugh… I hate how cool that sounded," Firestar muttered before igniting her own flames and soaring after him.

Johnny's fireballs exploded on impact, sending Moloids flying, shrieking as they flailed through the air.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man dropped down toward the Mole Man, aiming for a surprise attack—

—but the Mole Man rolled away at the last second, springing back to his feet. He whipped around, thrusting his staff forward, and fired a beam of energy.

Spider-Man casually tilted his head, letting the blast zip past him.

"Heh, bet you weren't expecting me to dodge that, huh?" the Mole Man said smugly, twirling his staff. "With my radar sense, there's no such thing as a surprise attack!"

Spider-Man raised an eyebrow, cracking his knuckles. "Tell me, ever been bullied in school?" He tilted his head again, dodging another blast effortlessly.

The Mole Man's face twisted in fury. "Why the hell does that matter to you?!"

"I'll take that as a yes." Spider-Man lunged forward and drove his fist straight into the Mole Man's gut. "Let's take a trip down memory lane"

WHAM!

The Mole Man's body folded like a cheap lawn chair. His eyes bulged, and a spray of spit flew from his mouth as he was sent tumbling across the ground, skidding and bouncing before coming to a wheezing stop. He gasped for air, hands clutching his stomach as he dry-heaved.

The Moloids leaped from all directions, swarming toward Spider-Man.

With a burst of bio-electricity, Spider-Man unleashed a pulse of lightning from his entire body. ZZZTT! The Moloids shrieked as they were thrown backward, their bodies convulsing from the shock.

Spider-Man stalked toward the Mole Man, his steps slow and deliberate. Then, without hesitation—

THUD!

He kicked him while he was down. The Mole Man's body launched through the air once more.

Before he could hit the ground, a group of Moloids rushed forward, catching him mid-flight. Without wasting a second, they turned and fled, carrying their leader away.

BOOM! CRUMBLE.

The noise caught Spider-Man's attention. He turned to see a massive tank with an excavation drill mounted on the front. More and more of them rumbled into view, emerging from the many tunnels in the area.

Each vehicle was manned by Moloids, all wearing hard hats.

Spider-Man shot a web behind him for support as he studied the excavation units. In the same motion, he sent another strand toward the Mole Man, who was being carried away. With a sharp yank, Spider-Man reeled him in and delivered a powerful kick, sending the villain spiraling through the air. Fresh wounds appeared on his face as he skidded across the ground once more.

The Moloids quickly pressed a button on their control panels. From the sides of their machines, mechanical arms extended, each equipped with spinning mini-drills. The drills whirred to life, accumulating vibrational energy before launching rapid bursts at Spider-Man.

He leaped backward just as the ground in front of him exploded into a cloud of dust and shattered rock.

"Now this is interesting…" Spider-Man muttered, watching the Moloids' new tech in action.

Firestar was already weaving through the oncoming blasts, dodging them with practiced ease. With a sweep of her hands, she unleashed a wave of intense heat. The excavation tanks began to melt under the force of her attack, forcing the Moloids inside to abandon ship and flee before the vehicles exploded into flying shrapnel.

Meanwhile, Johnny was still airborne, darting between the thousands of Moloids, sending them hurtling in every direction.

Spider-Man vanished from where he stood and reappeared beside one of the tanks. He cocked his fist back and slammed it into the vehicle with enough force to send it crashing through the air. The metal caved in upon impact, and the tank smashed against the cave wall, reduced to wreckage.

Without missing a beat, Spider-Man drove his fist into the ground, embedding it deep into the rocky surface. Electricity crackled around him before erupting in a massive surge, sending violent arcs of energy through the ground. The surrounding Moloids convulsed as the current passed through them, their bodies spasming before collapsing in unconscious heaps. Steam rose from their motionless forms.

Spider-Man launched himself onto a nearby wall, dodging another round of vibrational blasts as he ran along its surface. His senses flared—Mole Man was trying to limp away unnoticed.

Not happening.

With a flick of his wrist, Spider-Man fired a web at the villain's back, yanking him toward the wall. He leaped off his perch, spun in midair, and fired multiple web strands, pinning Mole Man firmly against the rock face.

Satisfied, he grinned and zipped around the cave, making his way up toward one of the entrances. Hanging upside down just outside, he spotted the others arriving.

They were sprinting toward him.

"Took you guys long enough~," Spider-Man teased.

"Couldn't miss out on all the fun. Hope we're not too late," Nightwing replied with a grin.

"I'm gonna need to see some I.D. before I let you in—this is the S.V.I.P. entrance," Spider-Man smirked.

In the distance, Johnny's voice rang out: "WOOHOO!"

The rest of the team—Susan, Reed, and Ben—quickly moved in to join him, leaving Spider-Man alone with Scarlet Spider.

She tapped the side of his helmet. "Shame you're wearing this," she mused. "I was finally gonna give you that upside-down kiss you've been wanting for so long~."

With a smug smile, she shot a web past him and swung into the fray.

Spider-Man stood there in stunned silence.

"… I'm destroying this outfit as soon as this mission is over," he muttered in pure frustration before webbing forward to rejoin the battle.
