Space-Space Fruit in One Piece

Chapter 3: 3: Eren vs. Enel - sparring match

While both of them did some warm-up stretches, Eren was already thinking about some possible attacks he could use with the help of his fruit.

With the level of control he had over it at the moment, some more advanced abilities like instant teleportation or locking space were still out of the question. At most, he could create some portals, but even that would take some time.

He could also use his Logia Element to attack his opponent, but he didn't want to try that against Enel because the destructiveness of the Space Element would probably wound him fatally with just one attack. After all, he had neither Armament Haki nor a tough body.

But that didn't mean that he wouldn't show Enel the true power of his attacks. Before the fight began, he condensed the space around his fist and formed it into a blade. This simple attack took Eren a lot of time and effort because of his weak body.

The energy emanating from the simple blade was so high that it caught Enel's attention. "What are you trying to do, Eren? Be careful not to hurt yourself! That looks dangerous."

Eren, however, was too focused on keeping his attack stable, which meant that he didn't have the ability to pay any intention to Enel. Instead, he sent his attack in the opposite direction, not wanting to hurt his brother.

The speed with which the attack flew out surprised Eren quite a bit, because it was almost as fast as a bullet fired by one of the primitive guns used by the Navy.

It made its way to a ten meter high tree and without a sound it cut through its trunk. There was virtually no resistance, and it continued on to one of the large walls surrounding the courtyard, where it exploded upon impact.

The explosion was extremely loud as the compressed space tried to regain its former form. This reduced at least 3 meters of the wall to rubble, with the area closest to the impact reduced to fine dust.

Seeing the aftermath of the attack, both brothers were stunned. Their eyes popped out of their skulls and their mouths were wide open.

Enel broke into a cold sweat and regretted that he had agreed to fight Eren right now.

"So - about the fight..."

Enel tried to save his life by appealing to his brother's conscience, but Eren didn't give in. "Don't worry, I won't use such powerful attacks against you. You probably won't even get hurt. At least not as much as the wall."

CRACK

At that moment, the tree that had been cut cleanly earlier finally fell to the ground, taking one of its brothers with it.

"You will probably end up better than the tree." With these words, Eren finally took a fighting stance over his brother, ready to beat him up as soon as the fight started.

"You know Eren, I don't feel very well. Maybe your earlier headache was contagious. I should probably rest for at least a week. Maybe even a month."

Enel shamelessly tried to talk himself out of the duel he had agreed to earlier. He immediately turned his back on Eren and went back to their house.

Seeing that the fight probably couldn't be started in a normal way, Eren decided to just attack. He really wanted to test his power, so he opened a portal in front of him, whose counterpart appeared right in front of Enel's face.

As soon as it opened, he struck out with full force and hit the future god of Skypiea right on the nose. If Eren wasn't so weak, it would have been broken.

"Ouch, that's not fair! I didn't even look at you." Enel tried to protest, but it had no real effect as he felt the second portal open in front of his stomach with the help of his Observation Haki. Thanks to it, he was able to react in time and jump back to avoid being hit a second time.

"First lesson: Never turn your back on your opponent. At least when you know he doesn't care about honor."

Realizing that running was useless, Enel turned around and decided to face his brother directly. If he was to explode into a fountain of blood today, he would at least go out as a brave fountain of blood.

Knowing that he would be outclassed if he kept his distance, Enel tried to close the distance to his brother by running towards him at full speed, which to be honest wasn't that fast since he doesn't train at all.

Eren tried to keep the distance by opening portals in front of Enel and using them to throw kicks and punches at him. Unfortunately, this didn't work that effectively anymore, because Enel just dodged or punched back with the help of his haki.

Eren also didn't have enough control over his Celestial Fruit to be able to overwhelm Enel's Haki by sheer numbers. This meant that he didn't really have an effective way to attack and the distance between them was getting smaller and smaller.

After all, Eren was still in the body of a 8-year-old. Even though it was the body of a 8-year-old in the One Piece Universe, which made him comparable to some 15-year-old kids on Earth, he still couldn't outrun a full-grown man.

But he didn't have to. Just as Enel had closed the distance between them and was about to celebrate his feat with a punch to his brother's stomach, Eren suddenly opened a portal behind him. He reappeared about 40 meters away, since that was the maximum distance he could teleport with his weak body and limited fruit mastery.

Seeing his target vanish into thin air right in front of him, Enel was on the verge of screaming in annoyance. But he would not give up. There was no way that Eren would be able to use his ability continuously without getting tired. Or so he thought.

Eren didn't know that Logia users were known for their stamina, but who could blame him? After all, he had never heard of Devil Fruits before today.

So their cat-and-mouse game went on for 15 minutes. Every now and then, Eren would let Enel catch up, only to open a portal right in front of his fists and force him to hit himself in the back of the head.

Since both of them were still quite weak, it was a miracle that they were able to fight for so long. Eren could tell that Enel was about to collapse. He was on the verge of exhaustion as well and didn't want to continue the fight.

At that moment, a brilliant idea of how to end the fight and completely shatter his brother's spirit suddenly appeared in Eren's mind, causing a fat grin to form on his face.

"How about one last attack?" He suggested to Enel. "I promise I won't dodge or use my abilities, just a pure physical confrontation."

Hearing the proposal, Enel was eager to agree. If he had thought about it longer, he would have known that this offer was too good to be true. But in his current state of mind, he wanted nothing more than to at least score a single hit.

Besides, Eren was still a gullible 8-year-old in his mind. He didn't know that he had awakened the memories of his previous life and that he was now much more intelligent than himself.

Sure of his victory, Enel regained some of his former arrogance and even looked at Eren with a touch of pity.

This made Eren doubt his mental abilities. Had he forgotten how he had been toyed with in the last 15 minutes? But he didn't care, because this could be a good lesson for his brother.

The two ran towards each other at the highest speed they could muster. Just as they were about to collide, each pulled back his right fist, not planning to dodge the other's attack.

Enel was sure that a child's punch wouldn't really hurt him, and Eren had another kind of insurance in the form of his devil fruit.

While Enel aimed at his brother's stomach, Eren's hand found its way to his face. His eyes, to be exact. The only place that would really hurt when poked with Eren's meager strength.

If Enel had stayed calm, he would have noticed the impeding pain, but in his current agitated state, there was no way he would have noticed. He was only focused on landing a blow on Eren. Observation Haki could only be used in a calm state of mind, so there was no way that Enel could have activated it at that moment.

At that moment, both of them landed a hit on each other. Just as Enel was about to enjoy his brother's pain, he suddenly felt a sharp sensation in his eyes. A sharp pain shot into his head, his vision went black and he rolled on the ground in pain.

Eren just looked at him with a hint of disgust in his eyes. Looks like he needs a lot of training. Both physically and mentally.

After rolling on the ground for another 10 seconds, Eren finally got up with a triumphant expression.

"Although you did a great job of holding off your big brother for so long, I still came out on top in the end. Don't be too sad though, even with me holding back most of my power, you still did pretty well for your age."

Enel finally looked into Eren's eyes, seemingly looking for the admiration he had for him, but was only met with disgust.

"Do you really think you won?" Eren asked. The words he had just heard were unbelievable for him. Had he and Enel just watched the same fight?

"Of course I did," Enel said, "After all, I landed a punch at the end, which means I won."

"Apart from the fact that a single punch doesn't mean that you won the fight, do you really think that you landed a punch on me?" Eren asked him, his voice dripping with mockery. "Think again Lightning Boy, did you feel the sensation when your hand hit my stomach? Or did it feel like hitting the air?"

These words made Enel think hard again, only to realize that Eren was right. "I still won. After all, you used your powers and went against the rules, which made me the winner." Enel couldn't think of any other reason for his attack completely missing.

Eren realized that words don't work against idiots and simply picked up a stone from the ground. He threw it into the air before letting it fall directly on his head.

"Stop, watch out," Enel tried to stop him. But Eren just looked at him to signal that he should just watch calmly.

In the moment when the stone was about to hit his head, Eren automatically elementalized. Instead of the expected bump on his head, the stone fell through him to the ground. This stunned Eren once again, but he was still sure of his victory.

"So you obviously cheated by using your power. Cheater! Cheater! Cheater!" It was almost like talking to a child.

"No, it's not. This is a passive ability of my body that I can't turn off."

Enel wanted to talk back again, but seeing the compressed space that was forming on Eren's hand, he decided to prioritize his own safety.

"Looks like I need one of those fruits too if I ever want to beat you again," Enel complained.

"No, you don't. What you really need is some training, you lazy bum. We'll start tomorrow at exactly 7:00. Every minute you're late means one more attack from me for you to dodge. And this time I won't hold back".

So Eren's training and Enel's personal hell started at the same time. Of course, Enel participated voluntarily. After all, he could stop at any time as long as he had the ability to dodge a few thousand spatial blades.
