Chapter 716: Chapter 695 ( Resuming the journey )

After a long day of rest, the group was ready to resume their journey, and they were being seen off by all the heroes and adventurers of the guild, after all, Cloud had been responsible for saving the city. Without his warning, leadership and strategies, they would have suffered many human casualties, possibly even the destruction of much of the capital.

"It feels exciting to see the admiration in their gazes" - Shea said as she waved goodbye - "Well, leaving that aside, where shall we go now?"

"The plan was to go straight to the sea of trees, although now that we've decided to train our skills, I think we'd better go somewhere different" - Cloud answered while shaking his head - "First we'll go to Miledi's labyrinth"

"That place where we can't use magic?" - Tio asked while raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, although you have a misconception of the place, it's not that we can't use magic, it's that the area complicates mana control, preventing the use of low level magics" - replied Yue calmly while looking at her companions - "You can use magic if you meet certain conditions, I'm telling you from experience."

"Umu, sounds like the perfect area to be able to train our mana control and concentration" - Tio muttered while nodding.

"Exactly, that's why we'll go to that place first, we'll also use this opportunity for you guys to get the magic from that maze" - Cloud added as he continued driving - "After that we'll go back to [Orcus] to train your levels."

"Wouldn't it be more convenient to have raised our levels first?" - Remia asked as she cocked her head to the side.

"No, it's better to have good basics so that while you level up the training will be easier, if you have a lot of mana, training your magic will be much harder in the future, not to mention that the more control you have of your energy, the more mana you will get while leveling up because this increase is proportional to the amount your body can handle" - answered Cloud while giving her a quick glance before focusing on the road again.

"I see" - nodded Remia as she saw how her daughter was looking all around excitedly.

"The plan failed?" - Eri asked as she frowned because she wasn't expecting this answer from the demonic high priest. She had returned from after having revived the most demons as her army of Undead.

"I think that question answers itself if you saw how we ended up" - answered the high priest as he looked with hostility at the human girl who seemed more and more unhinged.

Eri just smiled in response as she watched the demonic high command start to think.

"I don't understand, Alva-sama said he was going to make a move himself" - the high priest said as he frowned - "Was our devotion not enough?"

"And what about Shirasaki?" - Eri interjected as she clicked her tongue to gain the demonic high priest's attention.

"The human woman who was your ally?" - asked the high priest as he frowned - "Alva-sama informed me that she had been eliminated."

"Excellent" - smiled Eri as she licked her lips because the biggest obstacle to her desires had been destroyed.

The high priest was also a bit happy because with this they had returned the favor to the irregular who had ruined his plans, though his expression quickly darkened when he heard a message from his god.

"What's wrong?" - Eri asked as she frowned as she noticed this small detail.

"The irregular managed to save her from certain death..." - replied the high priest with a furious expression - "How, that woman was under the effects of Alva-sama's divinity!"

Eri's expression began to distort as she felt an enormous fury invade her insides.

The high priest looked at her in surprise because this level of dark emotions was on the level of a high-level demon.

"SHE'S STILL ALIVE!" - Eri exclaimed in fury as multiple skeletal arms came out of the ground.

For the first time in his life, the high priest experienced true terror. He could feel how the dark aura surrounding the human girl was getting thicker and thicker, and he could even feel the blessing of his master.

The high priest was experiencing firsthand the potential of otherworldly heroes, and he was honestly thankful that this terrifying girl was on his side because he was sure that Eri could be considered an S-rank threat because given enough time she could cause the complete annihilation of a realm without much trouble thanks to her necromantic abilities.

Eri took a long breath in order to calm down and get back to normal - "Sorry, I lost my composure, it's just that our lord promised me that she would be off the map and when he could finally say that he had kept his promise..." - Eri muttered as she frowned.

"I understand how you feel, although that doesn't mean that I accept that you talk like that about our lord" - said the high priest with a frown - "If he promised you that he would kill that girl, then he will do it, of that there is no doubt, so there is no need for you to show that attitude."

"I apologize again" - Eri replied as she silently retreated.

The high priest stared at her for a few seconds before shaking his head and retreating towards his chambers.

Eri looked in the direction of the high priest as she licked her lips and her eyes glowed a deep crimson color.

Kouki was walking silently while ignoring everything around him. He had managed to see what Cloud had done during the massacre and was honestly furious that despite everything he had done, his enemy was still superior to him.

[How do you feel after seeing what the irregular did?]

"I thought you'd still be making a mess of your home after your plans were destroyed by Strife" - Kouki replied disdainfully.

[I see you're assimilating the darkness of the Cursed Blade quite well...]

"But it's not enough" - Kouki replied with a frown - "No matter how you look at it, Strife is superior to me and if I go now I'll just end up handing my head on a silver platter."

[You have a point... I guess now we'll have to use plan B in order to awaken the full potential of the Cursed Blade]

"What do I have to do?" - Kouki asked seriously.

[First, we need the blood of 100 people of different races, and these have to have the ability to use above-average mana]

"Then what?" - Kouki asked with a frown.

[Then we'll go to the island of shadows that is in the deepest part of the demonic continent, there is an altar there that we'll use to release all the power of the sword, with that you'll be able to kill the irregular without much trouble, and get everything you've always wanted].

Kouki was silent when he heard this because something inside him told him that he was about to take the last step that would decide his fate. He could feel that he could still turn around and put everything aside, try to fight the darkness inside him and return to his friends, but at the same time the taste of power was too much for his weak mind. He wished to keep this enormous power, these emotions that were now unrestricted by his sense of morality.

Ehit was silent as he waited for the boy's response, after all, the Cursed Blade needed an owner who wished to wield it willingly.

"Come on, there's no turning back now" - Kouki said neutrally. His decision had been made and there was no way to turn back when he was so close to fulfilling his dreams. He could feel the jealousy and anger for Cloud, it was growing, and honestly he didn't care if it consumed him.

Ehit let out a laugh as he told him that he had chosen well.

Kouki paid no attention to her, he just walked silently towards the place where the greatest concentration of darkness was.

[Do you want me to bring a team for you?]

"Team?" - Kouki repeated while frowning - "You will only hinder me..."

[No, I have someone who has wanted to see you and will be of help even as a sacrifice if necessary.]

"Ho ~?" - Kouki raised an eyebrow as he asked the mad god who he was talking about.

[You know her, her name Eri Nakamura, she was one of your classmates.]

"That girl?" - Kouki said with a frown - "If I remember correctly, she had the power of Necromancy."

[Yes, and she has a huge potential that I've been helping to develop, she now has a huge army of Undead under her control]

"Interesting..." - Kouki said with mild interest - "I didn't think a weakling like her could make it this far."

[You'd be surprised what humans can accomplish when you give them the necessary incentives]
