Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Meeting Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo
Bibi Dong's goal was to capture and detain You Chen, using him as leverage against Qian Renxue in the future.
This mission demanded utmost secrecy—no leaks, no public awareness.
Thus, Bibi Dong deployed only small elite units, with Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo as the most powerful members. She positioned them to intercept You Chen on his return route.
Without modern communication devices, and given You Chen's speed, the Spirit Hall operatives could only patrol designated areas without notifying each other of developments.
Such a setup, with limited personnel, made the operation inefficient.
Fortunately, a pair of Title Douluo could address this shortcoming. Spotting You Chen flying back from a distance, Ghost and Chrysanthemum Douluo converged to intercept him before he could return to Notting City.
If You Chen made it back to the city, their mission would fail.
In the wilderness, with no witnesses, they could capture You Chen without anyone knowing. But in the city, things were different. They couldn't massacre an entire town to silence witnesses—not only was that impractical, but neither of them would stoop to such dishonor.
Chrysanthemum Douluo's demeanor might seem relaxed, but his pride as a Title Douluo was not so easily compromised, and Ghost Douluo shared his sentiments.
With Ghost Douluo's agility complementing Chrysanthemum Douluo's attacks, the two intercepted You Chen before he crossed the Balak Kingdom's border.
"Old Chrysanthemum, something feels off."
Ghost Douluo frowned as he observed You Chen's calm demeanor after being intercepted. His eyes scanned the area around You Chen.
"He's alone. His disciple isn't with him."
"It doesn't matter, Old Ghost," Chrysanthemum Douluo replied lazily. "As long as we catch him, it'll be fine."
With a wave of his hand, Chrysanthemum Douluo summoned his Qirong Tongtian Chrysanthemum. In the blink of an eye, golden petals filled the air, sealing off all of You Chen's escape routes.
Chrysanthemum Douluo turned his gaze to You Chen and spoke softly, "Master You Chen, I dislike needless violence. Since you can't possibly resist Old Ghost and me, why not save yourself the trouble? Put away your martial spirit and surrender quietly."
You Chen, seeing the two appear, was momentarily surprised but not flustered.
He had anticipated being intercepted; he was only surprised by the identities of the interceptors. Maintaining his calm expression, he replied, "I didn't expect such a reaction just because I took my disciple on a trip. It seems the Pope values me more than I thought."
Chrysanthemum Douluo chuckled, "It appears so. If you were to reconsider and pledge allegiance to Her Holiness, I'm sure she'd welcome you with open arms."
You Chen's expression remained unchanged, though a hint of amusement flickered in his eyes as he gazed at Chrysanthemum Douluo.
"Stop wasting time, Old Chrysanthemum," Ghost Douluo interjected coldly. "Something feels off. Let's dislocate his limbs first. That way, even if he has some tricks up his sleeve, it won't matter."
Without waiting for a response, Ghost Douluo flashed forward, breaking through the chrysanthemum barrier. A dark, ghostly hand reached for You Chen's right arm and twisted forcefully.
The expected sound of dislocation didn't come.
"What—!?"
Ghost Douluo's pupils contracted as he stared at the arm he had just ripped off. He was momentarily stunned.
While he had intended to dislocate the limb, he hadn't expected it to detach entirely—and without blood or flesh, only shimmering starlight at the severed joint.
"A trick!"
Ghost Douluo's expression darkened, and Chrysanthemum Douluo's face fell as well.
You Chen smiled. "I'm waiting for my true self to return to Notting City. What are you two waiting for? Or perhaps, after so long, you just wanted to catch up with me?"
Bang!
A golden petal shot forward like a knife, piercing the starlight clone of You Chen and causing it to shatter into glittering fragments.
Ghost Douluo analyzed the situation. "It seems he anticipated an ambush along this route and used a soul skill to deceive us. But for someone to create such a convincing clone, one that even speaks, is beyond extraordinary."
Chrysanthemum Douluo snorted coldly. "Anyone else might find it impossible, but for someone as gifted as him? Not surprising. It seems he never gave up on the path to becoming a true powerhouse."
Though his tone was initially begrudging, Chrysanthemum Douluo couldn't help but express admiration.
Even Ghost Douluo nodded in agreement.
Despite starting with only Rank 2 innate soul power, You Chen had achieved remarkable progress by the age of 36. His talent had long overshadowed his initial disadvantage.
Ghost Douluo asked, "What now? Should we report this failure to Her Holiness?"
Chrysanthemum Douluo sighed and spread his hands. "What else can we do? That boy's backers aren't to be underestimated. Getting involved in their power struggles isn't worth it. We've done enough to fulfill our duties. What, you want to march into Notting City and drag him out? That'd be asking for trouble. No thanks. I'd rather head back and tend to my nails."
Ghost Douluo shot him a sidelong glance. "If that's the plan, so be it. While we didn't achieve the Pope's primary goal, at least he hasn't chosen to disappear or go into hiding. That's a result she might still accept."
If their failure led to losing Bibi Dong's trust, it would only prove that their loyalty had reached its limits.
Even as Title Douluo, freedom in the Spirit Hall was far from guaranteed—a reality that Ghost Douluo couldn't help but reflect upon.
As Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo abandoned their pursuit, two figures—a man and a child—approached Notting City's gates.
It was You Chen and You Xing, though technically, they were both starry clones of You Chen.
To be precise, the You Chen who interacted with Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo was also a clone.
"To simultaneously control four separate consciousnesses… If not for my recent mental breakthrough and the Five Hearts Unified Realm, I doubt I could manage this even now," You Chen mused inwardly.
Embedding consciousness directly into clones to simulate real interaction was far more taxing than merely remote-controlling a projection.
Even with only four concurrent consci
ousness streams, the mental strain was immense—far beyond the limits of typical multitasking.
