Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Captain Of Squad 0527
Chen Guangpu heard the commotion outside and rushed out hurriedly.
Seeing Han Zhen retracting his fist and Wang Lümao unconscious on the ground, he said nothing. He simply carried Wang Lümao on his back and gave Han Zhen a meaningful look.
"Quickly, someone come here. Classmate Wang Lümao has fainted due to kidney deficiency. Get him to the infirmary."
Chen Guangpu shouted as he briskly walked in the opposite direction of Han Zhen.
"Principal Chen is a good person." Watching Chen Guangpu walking farther away, Han Zhen sighed emotionally.
Xia Youwei nodded in agreement. "I hope he lives a long life."
The two completed the graduation procedures at Qingteng Academy and, after receiving their recommendation letters, left to report to the Deep Blue City Guardians Organization.
The Guardians Organization was located in the center of Deep Blue City, in an extremely grand skyscraper.
When Han Zhen and Xia Youwei entered, the reception desk was completely unmanned.
There was only a young man, looking rather immature, hiding in a corner engrossed in a video game.
"Hello, I'm…"
Han Zhen walked up to the young man, but before he could finish explaining his purpose, the other waved him off impatiently.
"Go to the entrance, take a number, and wait in line for your number to be called."
Han Zhen was stunned for a moment but maintained his composure, patiently explaining, "I'm not here for assistance. I'm here to process my onboarding."
"Onboarding?"
The young man stopped playing his game and gave Han Zhen and Xia Youwei a somewhat surprised look.
Seeming to realize something, he let out an understanding "oh oh," pointing at them with his finger.
"Oh, it's you two. Vice Captain Zhao specifically said to… uh, take special care of you. Deep Blue City's only SSS-level talent spirit contractor, right?"
Realizing he had slipped up, the young man covered his mouth with his left hand while extending his right hand to Han Zhen for a handshake.
"Hello, I'm Xiao Bei."
"Your files have already been recorded. You've been assigned to Squad 0527. You can go there directly to report."
Xiao Bei explained the exact location of Squad 0527 in detail to Han Zhen.
"Congratulations, Captain Han. You are now the official captain of Squad 0527."
"All responsibilities, powers, and appointments related to the captain position are outlined in this booklet. You can take a look at it."
"We're colleagues now, so please take care of me."
The staff assigned to the reception desk were all shrewd. Xiao Bei's attitude shifted dramatically, his politeness now unmistakable.
Since he had extended courtesy, Han Zhen chose not to comment further. Taking the so-called captain's manual, Han Zhen flipped through it and gained a general understanding of the Guardians Organization's structure.
Within the organization, each city had a primary squad responsible for overseeing all other Guardians.
Other Guardians were then divided into numbered squads based on their respective jurisdictions.
Squad 0527, to which Han Zhen was assigned, was mainly responsible for the Xixia Road area of Deep Blue City.
Fortunately, it wasn't too far from headquarters.
After walking for another ten minutes or so, Han Zhen and Xia Youwei arrived at Xixia Road.
After much effort, they found Squad 0527's office. Upon pushing the door open, a strong stench of alcohol assaulted their senses.
The floor was littered with discarded wine bottles. Some were covered in dust, while others still had traces of wine, evidently thrown away not long ago.
The room full of bottles made Han Zhen and Xia Youwei feel as though there was no place to step.
Walking in, Han Zhen saw a middle-aged man with disheveled hair, a scruffy beard, and sprawled drunkenly on the floor.
Clutching half a bottle of wine in his arms, he snored drunkenly, showing no sign of waking up despite it being nearly ten in the morning.
Looking at the drunkard lying on the ground, Han Zhen frowned.
It seemed Zhao Hu had intentionally assigned him to Squad 0527 with ulterior motives.
Just as he was about to wake the drunkard, the door curtain jingled, and a woman in high heels and heavy makeup, dressed provocatively, walked in.
"And who might you be?" The woman, dressed like a dancer, glanced curiously at Han Zhen and Xia Youwei.
"0527 Squad's new captain, Han Zhen."
Han Zhen responded, pulling out an identification document from his file bag.
Upon seeing the document, the dancer's expression froze momentarily, as if she hadn't fully processed the situation.
At this moment, the drunken man on the floor stirred upon hearing the commotion, lazily opening his eyes to call out to the dancer standing there:
"Iris, money. Give me some money. I'm short on drinking money again."
The dancer heard him and her expression shifted subtly, carrying a mix of indescribable emotions.
In the end, she reached into her bra, pulled out a wad of cash, and handed it to the drunkard.
"Last night, I danced all night. I'm exhausted. I'm going to take a nap now."
"The new captain is here, so deal with him yourself. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Iris, his contracted spirit, and as you can see, also a dancer."
After speaking, Iris nodded slightly at Han Zhen and Xia Youwei, skillfully navigated through the wine bottles, and pushed open the door to the inner room to rest.
Taking the money, the drunkard scratched his head, mumbling to himself, "New captain? What a joke. A new captain? Tch."
He looked up, locking eyes with Han Zhen.
"Hello, I'm Han Zhen, the newly appointed captain of Squad 0527."
The drunkard froze upon seeing the identification.
The next moment, he sneered, swatting Han Zhen's hand away. His tone was laced with mockery:
"A brat who hasn't even grown all his hair yet, thinking he can be my captain?"
"Kid, scram. Go find somewhere cool to hang out."
"How can you talk like that?"
Xia Youwei's impression of him was extremely poor. Whether it was his alcoholism or his exploitation of his contracted spirit as a dancer to earn money for alcohol, this middle-aged man was downright disgusting.
"Oh, little lady, your soft voice is adorable even when angry. How about…"
BOOM!
Before he could finish his sentence, he was sent flying by a punch, landing heavily on the scattered glass bottles.
Broken shards pierced his skin, but the drunkard's smile didn't falter, as if he didn't feel any pain.
Fully sobered, he looked at Han Zhen, who stood opposite him.
"Kid, that punch had some force. Have you trained before?"
Han Zhen said nothing.
The drunkard stood up on his own, grabbing a half-empty bottle of wine, finishing it in one gulp. He let out a satisfied burp.
"Not answering? Fine. But I advise you to leave. It's for your own good."
"You must have pissed someone off, right? Otherwise, why would you be assigned to the 'most useless squad' in all of Deep Blue City?"
"If you leave now, you can say I, Yi Fan, drove you away with my unruliness. At most, you'll lose face. It's better than rotting here in the future."
"Don't you agree, Captain Han Zhen?"
The drunkard, Yi Fan, waved the empty wine bottle in his hand meaningfully as he spoke.
