Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Wings of Origin and the Dao Source Stone
Jing Shaoyu's new home in Donghai City was a three-story house with a courtyard, allocated by the City Administration Bureau as part of Jing Ziyuan's official residence. Technically, this housing arrangement was beyond her position as an office manager, but having a son with innate full spirit power came with its privileges.
The new home was fully furnished and ready for move-in, so that night, the family settled in immediately. Jing Shaoyu and Na'er each had their own rooms, though Na'er would have preferred to share with her brother. Jing Ziyuan, however, firmly denied this request. Nevertheless, her mother's soft heart led her to arrange Na'er's room right next to Shaoyu's, just two steps away.
That evening, after his bath, Jing Shaoyu lay in his new bed, contemplating. Indeed, this world was driven by power and talent. The kindness and privileges he received today were all due to his innate full spirit power; it was an investment.
Putting his thoughts aside, he sat up and began to explore the changes in his body and abilities after merging with his spirit and gaining his spirit ring.
Since receiving his first spirit ring, the most obvious change during the Origin Spirit's fusion was the appearance of a pair of wings—pure white, like angel wings. Named the Wings of Origin, they granted him the ability to fly, a rare advantage since only flight-type spirit masters could normally fly without being at least at the Spirit King level.
Another new addition was a round, pure-white gem on his Crown of Nature called the Dao Source Stone. In theory, he should have ten of these stones, but for now, only one had awakened.
The first Dao Source Stone granted him both an elemental affinity and a skill. The affinity, called Flame Sovereign, allowed him 10% fire element immunity, which would increase with his spirit rank—a potentially crucial defense for his Origin Spirit. The skill, Fire Burst, was essentially a fireball, but with room for growth as Shaoyu advanced. As one of his few offensive abilities, it made his spirit more versatile.
These new abilities confirmed his excitement: the Dao Source Stones indeed held the potential for various elemental powers. If he became a Titled Douluo and unlocked all ten stones, would that grant him immunity to nine different elements?
And then, to his delight, his spirit companion, the Vermillion Jade Bird, had awakened.
Apparently, the Vermillion Jade Bird had fallen into a deep sleep after forming a contract with him, as his high-level spirit had caused a significant enhancement in its bloodline, requiring rest to absorb the changes. In the spirit master world, it was a known principle that high-grade spirits could transform weaker spirits over time, usually by the spirit improving the spirit master. However, in Shaoyu's case, the quality of his spirit was so high that the Vermillion Jade Bird itself had evolved.
Upon awakening, the Vermillion Jade Bird looked markedly different. Its red feathers were now a richer, gemstone-like shade, and its head bore a diamond-shaped white gem, almost like an egg, as though it held something inside. Though now small enough to fit in his palm, it would return to its full size in combat.
"From now on, I'll call you 'Vermillion,'" Shaoyu said with a smile, lifting his spirit to eye level.
"Chirp, chirp!" Vermillion responded happily, hopping from his hand to his shoulder and back, as if playing.
Just then, Na'er opened the door, bounding into his arms. "Brother!"
Shaoyu smiled, though slightly exasperated by her wet hair rubbing against him. He enjoyed her affection but sometimes wished she wasn't quite so attached.
Na'er gasped, eyes widening at the sight of Vermillion. "Such a cute bird! Is this your spirit companion?"
"Yes, this is Vermillion." Shaoyu gently raised his hand, and Vermillion landed on it gracefully.
"Chirp!" Vermillion let out a cheerful call.
"Even its voice is adorable!" Na'er's eyes sparkled with admiration. "I wish I had a bird like that too!"
"One day you will. When you awaken your spirit next year…" Shaoyu stopped, realizing he'd said too much.
"Hm?" Na'er looked at him curiously. "What were you about to say, Brother?"
"Nothing!" Shaoyu covered quickly. "I mean, when you awaken your spirit next year, you'll have a chance to get a spirit just as cute!"
"Hehe, I'm sure I will!" Na'er smiled happily, her attention fully on Vermillion.
Shaoyu chuckled as Na'er spent quite a while in his room before Ziyuan finally came to retrieve her. With Na'er gone, he composed himself, crossed his legs, and began to cultivate. Since advancing to the Spirit Master level, his sensitivity to the surrounding elemental energy had increased, enhancing his cultivation speed.
In just a few breaths, he entered a meditative state.
Elsewhere in Donghai City, in a lavish mansion, Ouyang Jian reviewed some documents. A young girl with long blue hair, appearing around ten years old, approached him with light steps. She was exceptionally pretty, her large, bright eyes shining with curiosity.
"Grandpa, it's so late. Why are you still working?" she asked playfully as she plopped down beside him.
"Oh, Zixin! Why aren't you resting yet?" Ouyang Jian's expression softened as he saw her. This was his granddaughter, Ouyang Zixin.
"Grandpa, I asked you first!" she replied, crossing her arms.
"Ah, yes, yes. Blame my busy head," Ouyang Jian laughed sheepishly. "You know, our city just got its first innate full spirit power child in a century!"
"Oh, you mean Xiaoyan?" Zixin responded, as though it were old news.
"Not Xiaoyan," he corrected. "It's a boy named Jing Shaoyu, an orphan with a rare healing-type spirit."
"Is that so?" Zixin was surprised. As far as she knew, innate full spirit power usually appeared in children from spirit master families, so an orphan with this gift was unexpected.
"Absolutely!" Ouyang Jian confirmed. "Too bad you already graduated from Xuankong Academy. Otherwise, you'd meet him tomorrow! But no worries—if there's a chance, Grandpa will introduce you. He's quite the handsome boy!"
"Handsome? You think he's better looking than Brother Xiaoyu?" Zixin teased.
"Can't compare. The Xu family kid's looks don't come close to Jing Shaoyu's!" Ouyang
Jian declared.
"Humph! I don't believe you," Zixin replied, pouting.
