Soul Land: Xiao Yan Reincarnates as Huo Yuhao

Chapter 76: Chapter 76: A Super Companion?

The frigid wind still howled as snowflakes blanketed the vast icy expanse. Suddenly, with a soft "puff," Xiao Yan emerged from the thick snow, sighing softly. "So, it still failed in the end, huh?"

But just then, a faint cracking sound echoed nearby.

Hearing this sudden noise, Xiao Yan shuddered slightly. He slowly turned his head toward the source of the sound, and his pupils immediately contracted.

He saw that the corpse of the Ice Jade Emperor Scorpion, which had completely lost its life force, was now cracking open. Its hardened, green shell began to fracture, and the splits spread rapidly. It seemed like something was about to burst out from within.

"There's something inside..." Staring at this eerie scene, Xiao Yan gulped unconsciously, his brows knitting as he took a few cautious steps back. In his mind, he quickly asked, "Teacher, what's going on here?"

"There seems to be a living presence inside, but it feels… different from that scorpion's aura," Yaolao replied, his voice laced with tension. "Be careful, and let's observe for now."

"Understood." Xiao Yan's eyes narrowed, and he nodded, his tone deep.

Just then, Tianmeng Iceworm's voice wailed within Xiao Yan's mind, "My Bing Bing! Did it really fail? No… My Bing Bing, such a tragic end!"

"Oh heavens, why must you be so cruel to me?"

"Am I destined to a life of loneliness, a star of doom? How could this happen? It wasn't supposed to fail!"

As the Iceworm wept, a sudden explosion echoed from the ground where the Ice Jade Emperor Scorpion's corpse lay. Shards of its green shell shot outward, and its entire body instantly dissolved into powder, disappearing into the frozen landscape.

If a human witnessed this, they would think the Ice Emperor's body had vanished. But to the Ice Emperor, it wasn't an end but rather a choice to dissipate its powers and condense a new form. Only by burning its own essence could it achieve such an effect. Otherwise, with its resilience, not even the world's strongest weapon could easily harm it.

As the Ice Emperor's body dissipated into powder, an immense and terrifying aura surged through the icy plains, spreading across the entire Northern Expanse with an awe-inspiring speed.

"What's happening? Could it be that the Ice Emperor isn't dead?" Tianmeng Iceworm, still within Xiao Yan's spiritual sea, also sensed this overwhelming aura and spoke in excitement.

As this oppressive energy swept over him, Xiao Yan felt a chill down his spine. He immediately planted the Heavy Xuan Ruler in front of him, using it to shield himself as he hid behind it, sweat dripping from his palms.

Even so, the force pushed him back several meters.

In the next instant, a green streak of light shot out from the snow at an astonishing speed, piercing through space itself.

Startled, Xiao Yan looked up, his black eyes catching a flicker of jade-green light. His face was filled with shock as he stammered, "What… What is that? It's so fast!"

Just as he was about to mobilize his energy, the green streak of light shot straight toward him.

In this critical moment, a white flame burst out of Xiao Yan, instantly melting the surrounding snow. The air around him twisted under the intense heat.

The green figure froze in front of Xiao Yan, seemingly wary of the white flames. Finally, it came into full view.

"The Ice Emperor?" The panic on Xiao Yan's face slowly gave way to a stunned expression, looking at the scene before him in disbelief.

Floating before Xiao Yan was a tiny, green scorpion, barely ten centimeters long. Its whole body was a bright, crystalline green with peculiar streaks of light flowing through it. Its sharp pincers were also green, exuding a frosty coldness. Its tail, with five segments, narrowed towards a pointed tip that glimmered with a faint icy light.

It hovered in front of Xiao Yan, its green eyes devoid of any hostility, resembling a newborn creature.

The small scorpion hesitated, twitching its tail as it cautiously approached Xiao Yan. However, sensing the intimidating white flames around him, it quickly recoiled, curling its body slightly as its eyes reflected a hint of pitiful vulnerability.

"It's Bing Bing! She's not dead!" Tianmeng Iceworm cheered within Xiao Yan's spiritual sea.

Hearing this, Xiao Yan blinked, studying the little green scorpion before him. "Teacher, what happened to the Ice Emperor?"

"Uh…" Yaolao murmured, exhaling softly. "I'm not entirely sure. Maybe failing to become your spirit ring somehow reverted her to this juvenile form. It seems she's lost her memories… Maybe the Bone Spirit Cold Fire fried her mind?"

Listening to Yaolao's explanation, Xiao Yan felt a few black lines forming on his forehead. He licked his lips and whispered, "Teacher, I don't think she means any harm. Maybe you could retract the Bone Spirit Cold Fire to avoid scaring her."

Yaolao hesitated briefly but then nodded.

As the white flames around Xiao Yan dissipated, the little green scorpion blinked its jade-colored eyes and cautiously floated toward him.

With a flick of its tail, the Ice Emperor circled Xiao Yan twice before settling into his palm. Raising its crystalline eyes, it let out a soft hiss, seeming to ask for food.

"Teacher, she seems… hungry." Xiao Yan smiled wryly. "What should I feed her?"

"You have that Ten-Thousand-Year Cold Ice Essence, don't you?"

Xiao Yan blinked in surprise, then quickly took out a small portion of the Ten-Thousand-Year Cold Ice Essence from his spatial ring, placing it in front of the little scorpion.

The Ice Emperor eagerly plunged its head into the icy essence, drinking it down with delight. Within moments, it had consumed almost a tenth of the Cold Ice Essence, its eyes shining with excitement and satisfaction.

"The Ice Jade Emperor Scorpion is an ice-attribute beast. Naturally, it's attracted to the pure, frosty energy of the Cold Ice Essence," Yaolao commented.

Nodding, Xiao Yan gently reached out and touched the scorpion's bright green body. It responded with a soft wiggle, showing no hostility and affectionately rubbing against his hand.

Watching this, Tianmeng Iceworm sighed dramatically, "Oh heavens, my Bing Bing has become this? Why, oh why must fate be so cruel?"

"Little one, would you like to come with me?" Xiao Yan asked, smiling as he looked at the tiny Ice Emperor coiled on his wrist.

The Ice Emperor lifted her jade-green eyes and gazed at the black-robed youth, a glimmer of curiosity flickering in her gaze. After a moment, she nodded slightly, coiling her tail around Xiao Yan's wrist like a charm.

"Haha!" Xiao Yan laughed. "Teacher, even though we didn't get a spirit ring with forty-thousand-year cultivation here, we did gain a formidable companion. With her help in future battles, I can unleash her as a secret weapon…"

"I wonder how much power she retains in this form—ten thousand years? Maybe five?"

As Xiao Yan finished speaking, a low growl and a faint, fishy scent filled the air. The forest to the left swayed as if hit by a powerful gust, and a large white tiger leaped out of the trees.

"A white tiger?" Xiao Yan's brow furrowed as he gripped the Heavy Xuan Ruler tightly, prepared for battle.

"This is the Northern Expanse—white tigers don't exist here. That's an illusion created by an iceworm's mental energy," Tianmeng Iceworm's voice echoed in his mind.

"Iceworm?" Xiao Yan muttered, puzzled.

"A Thousand-Year Iceworm, one of my kin, possessing potent mimicry abilities. Its mental energy aligns well with your Spirit Eyes Martial Spirit. If you absorb its spirit ring, there's an eighty percent chance you'll gain its mimicry ability," Tianmeng explained.

"Mimicry?" Xiao Yan asked, intrigued.

Tianmeng Iceworm elaborated, "Mimicry involves manipulating the surrounding space with mental energy to simulate various forms and corresponding auras. Your body can handle absorbing a three-thousand-year spirit ring for your second martial spirit, and this iceworm's age and attributes are well-suited to you."

"Then let's do it." Xiao Yan nodded and, turning to the small Ice Emperor on his wrist, said, "Alright, little one, could you help me with this? Just leave it with a sliver of life, and let's see what you can do."

"Hiss!"

At Xiao Yan's command, the little Ice Emperor let out a soft hiss. An icy green glow emanated from her body, and she began to swell at an astonishing speed.

In a matter of moments, the tiny scorpion transformed into a massive creature over ten meters long. With its enormous form now towering over Xiao Yan, a surge of immense energy radiated from her, causing faint ripples in the air around them, like waves on a lake.

The night was deep, and the sky was void of starlight or moonlight. In the wilderness, darkness reigned supreme, making it impossible to see one's own hand in front of them. It was the darkest time of night, soon to be broken by the pale light of dawn.

Suddenly, two streaks of light cut through the sky, leaving behind trails of radiant brilliance, as though slicing through the heavens themselves.

A few minutes later, two figures descended from the sky and landed steadily on the ground. One was an elderly man dressed in oil-stained, worn clothes, holding a gourd from which he was taking long gulps of wine. This was Elder Xuan, one of the esteemed elders of the Sea God Pavilion at Shrek Academy. The other figure was Dai Yaoheng, the eldest son of the White Tiger Duke.

"Hey, little Dai, we've arrived, haven't we?" Elder Xuan drawled lazily.

Dai Yaoheng's face twitched slightly at the nickname, but he still approached respectfully and replied, "Yes, Elder Xuan. We've reached the border region my father oversees. Our landing caused quite a bit of commotion, so I expect the army will have detected us. We're only a few dozen miles from the Star Luo Empire's Western Army Group, and they should be arriving soon. I'll handle it. You can rest if you wish."

Elder Xuan nodded, took another swig from his gourd, and found a large tree to settle down under for a nap.

Before long, lights appeared in the distant sky, approaching rapidly. Figures in black armor, equipped with black flight soul tools on their backs, descended and swiftly surrounded Elder Xuan and Dai Yaoheng in a tight circle. At their head was a stern-faced elder.

"Who are you two? Why are you using flight soul tools to approach our army?" The elder demanded, as he and the others released their martial souls and soul rings, illuminating the night with a brilliant array of colors.

The elder in the lead was a Soul Sage, a formidable seven-ringed master with three yellow, two purple, and two black rings. Though not the optimal soul ring configuration, it was still impressive. His subordinates were all Soul Ancestors or stronger, with some even reaching the five-ringed Soul King level, though most of them were well over thirty years old. Each of them bore a white tiger emblem on their chests, shining faintly in the light of their soul rings, an insignia that covered much of their chest armor and radiated fierce authority.

To bring forth thirty Soul Ancestor-level or higher warriors was no small feat, especially to handle flight soul tools and arrive so quickly.

"Elder Du, don't you recognize me?" Dai Yaoheng stepped forward, facing the elder directly.

The old man froze for a moment. Examining Dai Yaoheng closely under the soul ring's glow, a look of surprise and delight quickly spread across his face. "Ah! It's the young master! Young Master, what brings you here? I thought you were at Shrek Academy."

Dai Yaoheng's face darkened slightly, and he replied in a low voice, "Is my father in the camp? Something serious happened at the Academy. Huabin… Ah, just take me to see my father."
