Chapter 93: Fierce Struggle

Chapter 93: Fierce Struggle

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Dozens of arrows flew forward, striking the advancing trolls.

These trolls, however, wore thick metal armor. Raising their arms to protect their heads, they charged forward undeterred as the arrows bounced off them.

The sharp arrowheads only occasionally found their mark, slipping through the gaps in their armor.

But such minor injuries were nothing to these robust trolls.

Charging side by side, their blood-red eyes gleamed with cold cruelty and rage.

Matthew recognized these trolls—they were the same ones who had broken the Moonhand Slaver camp!

A unique breed of trolls!

The information on forsaken soldiers and warriors confirmed their identity.

Clearly, these trolls wouldn’t be up for any “peaceful negotiations.”

Without hesitation, Matthew raised his staff. With a surge of mana, a streak of dark yellow light shot forward.

This time, his target wasn’t the charging trolls but the pile of leaves ahead of them!

Grease, a 1st-level spell!

Two or three dozen charging trolls slipped and slid as they barreled into the greased ground, nearly toppling over.

"Move aside..."

"Careful..."

"Damn humans..."

"There’s a spellcaster!"

"Rush him, kill him!"

"I’ll flay his skin..."

"This doesn’t seem dangerous..."

The remaining trolls instinctively halted their charge.

Numerous menacing gazes were now fixed on Matthew.

Disrupting their formation, however, was not Matthew's main objective.

As he observed the trolls stumbling across the slippery ground, a red-hot beam shot from his staff.

Boom!

Blazing flames roared to life, instantly engulfing over twenty trolls caught off guard.

In mere moments, these trolls became walking torches, their agonized screams striking fear into the hearts of the other trolls.

Matthew could clearly see the damage numbers floating above the trolls’ heads: “-2,” “-3.”

However, the trolls' powerful regeneration kept working, and they wouldn’t be so easily burned to death.

Enduring the searing pain, these scorched trolls madly rushed toward the water’s edge.

For now, they were out of the fight!

But the remaining trolls quickly spread out, growing even more enraged!

They had their sights set on Matthew!

And that was precisely Matthew’s goal!

A damage dealer who doesn’t draw aggro is of no use at all!

As the flames distracted and scattered the trolls, a strategy began to form in Angela's mind as she observed the barbarians holding the trolls at bay, and she decisively gave the order.

“Axe and sword teams, form groups of three and take formation!”

“Squads 1 and 4, form groups of six and combine the axe-wielder teams into wedge formations!”

She had the reserve force of over eighty barbarian soldiers step to the front while the shield-bearers and spear-bearers spread out into smaller formations.

Angela, with her sharp battle instincts, realized that these trolls fought in a style similar to the barbarians.

They relied heavily on their individual strength, charging in wildly with little to no coordination.

Using tightly packed formations like before would just deplete their forces too quickly.

Instead, smaller units working in tandem would be more effective for cutting down the trolls one by one!

The powerful barbarian soldiers would serve as the pillars holding back the trolls' overall momentum.

The soldiers, calming down, took comfort in the tall, imposing figures of the armored barbarian soldiers standing beside them.

At the same time, Angela retrieved a glowing golden scroll and tore it open without hesitation.

“Mass Protection Scroll: Grants all allied units within 50 meters +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, +2 Defense for five minutes.”

As the bright golden light enveloped the soldiers, the trolls roared in fury and charged at them with renewed ferocity.

Bang!

Crack!

Clang!

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The sounds of battle—the shouts, the howls, the clashing of weapons—rang out all at once.

The trolls and soldiers clashed in a brutal melee.

Angela’s timely reformation of the battle lines proved to be a success.

The disorganized trolls were effectively held off by the soldiers.

With the added boosts to their stats, bolstered by both gold and willpower, the soldiers endured the trolls' first wave of attacks.

The strengthened barbarian soldiers in particular displayed wild fighting styles, relying on their heavy armor to go toe-to-toe with the trolls.

But about a dozen trolls deliberately bypassed the soldiers' defenses and headed straight for Matthew.

The scattered arrows around them merely bounced off, sparking harmlessly against their armor.

The dozen or so rogue wanderers around Matthew were clearly no match for the trolls’ advance, and the soldiers by the river had only just finished off the last troll and couldn’t reach him in time.

At that moment, Matthew found himself surrounded by only a few comrades!

In an instant, Matthew was plunged into danger!

One of the trolls suddenly accelerated, its massive body moving with surprising speed like a missile, rapidly closing in on Matthew. Its fierce momentum was terrifying.

This troll was a high-level warrior!

“Hey!”

A thunderous shout echoed across the battlefield, reverberating through the troll’s ears, freezing it in place mid-charge.

High-level combat technique—Roar of Fury!

Arnold, regulating his breath, charged forward and brought his massive sword down on the troll from above.

As the blade descended, the troll snapped out of its stupor and raised its black short sword to block.

Clang!

The clash of powerful forces sent sparks flying, and regret flickered in Arnold’s eyes.

If he had been twenty years younger, his physical prowess would have allowed him to overpower the troll before it could react.

But now, all he could do was watch as the troll withdrew, forcing himself to resist the urge to pursue. Adjusting his stance, Arnold prepared for the oncoming onslaught of trolls.

Angela was about to rush to Matthew's defense when he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, his voice calm and certain:

“Keep leading the battle. I’ll handle them.”

Matthew said this because he could see that the soldiers by the river were rushing toward them, and the trolls from the left side were closing in.

Just as before, Angela chose to trust him without hesitation, turning her attention back to the soldiers and refortifying their defense lines.

The pressure now fell on Matthew, as Yaya stood ready once more, her eyes locked on the dozen trolls charging toward them.

The surrounding wanderers began throwing out smoke bombs, clouding the trolls’ path.

The seasoned veteran Hall quickly ripped open a scroll.

Web, a 2nd-level spell!

A massive web fell from the sky, landing perfectly at the front of the charging trolls, entangling them in sticky strands.

Hall didn’t target the high-level troll, knowing that Web likely wouldn’t hold it. Instead, he focused on catching as many of the ordinary trolls as possible.

His strategy paid off—over two-thirds of the trolls were ensnared, and the rest were separated.

Before Hall could react, oily liquid splashed across the ground, engulfing the trapped trolls.

Moments later, flames erupted, engulfing them in a fiery blaze!
