Chapter 21: Darker Than A Demon(3)
"Daughter! Save me! Don't let it take me!"
The desperate cry echoed through the realm, a sound so foreign coming from the demon who had only ever spoken in thunderous commands and cruel taunts.
But Raven didn't move. She couldn't move. She stood there, motionless in Damian's embrace, her eyes locked on the horror before her, unable to look away.
Trigon's body continued to be devoured, the darkness wrapping around his torso, pulling him deeper and deeper into the void. The shadows moved like living things, serpentine tendrils of pure darkness that coiled around his massive form with devastating purpose. His fiery red glow dimmed, flickered, and then vanished entirely as the shadow reached his neck. His roar turned into a gurgled plea, his once commanding presence now reduced to nothing more than a desperate cry.
His head was the last to remain, hovering above the void like a severed relic of the fear he had once inspired.
His eyes, once burning with unholy fire, were now wide and desperate, fixed on Raven with a mixture of rage, terror, and a plea for mercy. They held a vulnerability that seemed impossible for a being of such ancient evil, a raw fear that made him seem almost mortal. He knew she was his last, desperate hope, the only one who could save him in this terrible moment. The irony was not lost on either of them - the tormentor now begging for mercy from the tormented.
"Daughter!" he screamed, the word echoing like a dying star's final gasp, the raw desperation in his voice cutting through the darkness. The sound carried centuries of power reduced to nothing but primal terror.
"Daughter!" he cried again, his voice cracking and frantic, his outstretched hand trembling as the void closed in. His fingers grasped at empty air, clutching for salvation that would never come. The darkness crept relentlessly over his chin, consuming him inch by inch, swallowing his mouth, his nose, and then, finally, his eyes.
The roar that came next was deafening, a final, furious bellow that echoed through the abyss. It was the sound of defeat, of rage and terror intertwined, the death knell of an immortal being facing true oblivion.
And then… there was nothing, just silence.
The darkness swallowed the last of him, smothering his voice until there was nothing left but an empty, endless void.
The space where Trigon had once stood was now just a gaping chasm of darkness, his presence erased as if it had never been.
The instant he was gone, Raven's entire body jerked, the reality of the moment slamming into her like a tidal wave. A choked sob tore from her throat, and she twisted her head away, unable to bear the sight of the void that had swallowed her father.
She buried her face in Damian's chest, squeezing her eyes shut as tightly as she could, as if to block out the horror that had just unfolded. Her hands gripped his shirt desperately, as if he were the only anchor in a world that had been turned upside down, and her shuddering breaths were the only sound that remained in the suffocating silence. Each breath was a battle, her lungs fighting against the weight of emotions too complex to name.
There was nothing left, just endless darkness.
The lush greenery, the serene blue skies, the ancient columns, everything was gone, consumed by the infinite expanse of black. The realm that had once been a prison of hope and life for Trigon was now a void, endless and desolate.
After Trigon was swallowed by the relentless darkness, the entire realm seemed to dissolve with him. The sky that had once been a vibrant blue, the towering trees, and the distant horizon, everything vanished as if it had never existed, leaving only a vast, empty abyss. The transformation was absolute, as if reality itself was being rewritten. An endless sea of darkness stretched in every direction, enveloping everything in a heavy, absolute void.
Damian sat at the epicenter of it all, his form a stark silhouette against the infinite darkness. Raven was still in his arms, her body trembling, her violet eyes shut tightly. She buried her face in his chest, seeking comfort amidst the swirling uncertainty of what had just happened. Damian said nothing, holding her tightly as if shielding her from the lingering shadows that surrounded them, his hand gently stroking her hair.
The only sound left was the faint echo of her own heartbeat, thundering in her ears like a distant drumbeat in the silent abyss. Each beat seemed to echo through the endless dark, a metronome keeping time in a world where time had lost all meaning. Slowly, the frantic rise and fall of her breath began to steady, and the tension in her shoulders eased as she sank deeper into his embrace.
After a long, still moment, Raven shifted, pulling away from his chest. She blinked, lifting her face to meet his gaze, and paused, her breath catching. The last time she had looked at his eyes, they had been nothing but endless, empty black sockets, but now they were back to normal, the deep, abyssal black of his pupils surrounded by the familiar whites.
Confusion flickered across her face as she studied his countenance. Though her expression was still lined with disbelief, there was a fragile calm in her gaze.
Carefully, she moved out of his arms, lowering herself to the ground, and sitting in front of him. Damian remained seated, his posture relaxed, his dark eyes observing her with a gentle calm.
They were now both seated on the ground that was nothing but endless darkness, as if they were perched on the edge of a black hole, the emptiness stretching infinitely in all directions. The void seemed to cradle them, two points of life in an ocean of nothingness.
Damian sat casually, his posture relaxed as if he were lounging in the most familiar of places. In contrast, Raven knelt in front of him, facing him in a Yokozuwari position, her legs folded neatly beneath her, her hands resting tensely on her thighs. The surrounding void seemed to press in on them, but they were untouched, sitting together in the heart of that abyss as if it were the only world that existed.
The endless darkness stretched out around them, swallowing the world they had known just moments before. It was like being suspended in space, but without stars to mark the boundaries of existence. There was an oppressive silence pressing in from all sides. What had once been lush and green, vibrant with life, was now an ocean of shadow with no visible horizon. There was no sky, no trees, no sign of the peaceful realm that had once existed, only the quiet void that now lay beneath Damian's control.
Raven's fingers tightened slightly as they rested on her thighs, her gaze darting around the empty, black expanse before settling back on him. "What... What just…." she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, still laced with confusion.
