Chapter 4: chapter 4:The first hunt
Grisha approached the designated location of the E-rank Goblin Nest gate. The air shimmered slightly, indicating the presence of a dimensional rift. A bored-looking guard, dressed in standard Hunter Association uniform, stood at the gate, checking IDs. Grisha displayed his Hunter ID from A-rank. Despite his apparent disinterest, the guard thoroughly scanned the card. The holographic display flickered to confirm Grisha's rank and registration. "The gate's open. "Good luck," the guard muttered, barely making eye contact.
Grisha nodded curtly and walked through the shimmering portal. The transition happened in an instant. One moment he was in bustling Seoul, the next he was surrounded by the damp, earthy smell of a forest. Towering trees, their leaves a dark, almost menacing green, obscured most of the sky. The air was thick with the scent of damp soil and something slightly musky. It was a stark contrast to the neon-lit cityscape he had just left behind.
He activated his Observation Haki, which expanded his senses throughout the immediate area. The forest was strangely quiet, save for the rustling of leaves and the occasional chirp of an unknown insect. He could feel the presence of goblins scattered throughout the forest, their mana signatures weak and erratic. There were about 200 of them, with two larger presence deeper within the nest.
Grisha began to move, his steps light and silent. He navigated through the dense undergrowth, his dark hoodie blending with the shadows. He wasn't relying on his Lunarian physiology just yet. This was a test, a chance to refine his skills and get a feel for his new equipment. He wanted to push himself, to see how far he could go relying on his martial arts, mana manipulation, and Haki.
He came across a small group of goblins – five in total – huddled around a crude campfire. They were small, wiry creatures, with greenish skin, pointed ears, and beady, malicious eyes. They chattered amongst themselves in a guttural language, oblivious to his approach.
Grisha stopped, a few feet away, taking a deep breath. He channeled mana through his body, reinforcing his muscles and enhancing his speed. He then activated Armament Haki, coating his fists with the invisible armor, making them as hard as steel. He moved with a burst of speed, closing the distance in an instant.
The goblins barely had time to react. His first strike, a lightning-fast jab, connected with the closest goblin's jaw. The sound of shattering bone echoed through the forest. The goblin crumpled to the ground, unconscious. He followed up with a spinning kick, catching another goblin in the side. The creature was sent flying, crashing into a tree trunk.
The remaining goblins, finally realizing the danger, scrambled to their feet, brandishing crude, stone-tipped spears. They charged at Grisha, screeching and snarling. Grisha met their charge head-on. He weaved and dodged, his movements fluid and precise. He used his mana-enhanced speed to his advantage, striking with pinpoint accuracy. Each blow was calculated, each strike precise. He focused on disabling his opponents, aiming for pressure points and nerve clusters.
He dispatched the remaining goblins with swift efficiency. A sharp elbow strike to the throat, a knee to the groin, a palm strike to the chest – each move was designed to incapacitate, not kill. He wanted to test his control, to see how effectively he could use his skills without resorting to lethal force.
As the last goblin fell, Grisha deactivated his Armament Haki. He took a moment to assess the situation. He hadn't taken a single hit. His new gauntlets had performed admirably, providing a solid striking surface and channeling his mana effectively. He felt a surge of satisfaction. His training was paying off.
He continued deeper into the forest, encountering more groups of goblins. He repeated his strategy, using his mana-enhanced speed, Armament Haki, and martial arts to subdue them. He moved like a whirlwind, a blur of motion and force. The goblins, despite their numbers, were no match for his skill and power.
After what felt like hours of fighting dozens goblins which used diffrent wepons, he used mana or haki to enhance his body while swiftly detaching all the goblins he came upon from the mortal plane, Grisha reached the heart of the Goblin Nest. A clearing opened up before him, revealing a large, crudely constructed wooden platform. Standing on the platform was the large goblin ontop of a horned white wolf. It was larger than the other goblins, with a muscular build and a fierce expression. The creature it was mounted on was even larger it lehs bulky it body releasing a menacing force.
Grisha recognized the creature as a hobgoblin, and the fact that it had a mount indicated that it was a very rear variant known as a hobgoblin rider. It was a rare duo, with both acting as a boss, and most hunters would be excited seeing this sight if they had enough strength because a hobgoblin rider mental doubles profits.
When both creatures sensed Grisha's presence, they roared, with the Hobgoblin brandishing a rusted iron sword. It charged towards Grisha, the wolf's legs pounding against the wooden platform. Grisha braced himself and activated Armament Haki once more. He faced the charge head on, his gauntlets clenched into fists.
The hobgoblin rider swung its sword at Grisha's head. Grisha avoided the blow, taking advantage of his mana-enhanced speed. He lunged forward and landed a powerful uppercut on the hobgoblin's jaw. The creature's head snapped back, and its eyes rolled up into its skull. It slumped forward and fell off the wolf's back.
The wolf, who was now without a rider, panicked. It charged at Grisha, as it horns pointed at his legs. Grisha sidestepped again before grabbing the wolf's horns and using his strength to flip the creature onto its back. He then landed a powerful kick to its head, killing it instantly.
Grisha felt deep resolution after defeating the hobgoblin rider and their mount. He had accomplished on of his goal. He had successfully cleared the Goblin Nest.
He deactivated his Armament Haki and took a deep breath. He experienced a sense of accomplishment. He had put his skills to the test, fine-tuned his techniques, and demonstrated the effectiveness of his new equipment. He had also managed to keep his power under control, defeating the goblins without using lethal force. He had accomplished all of this while his Lunarian physiology was only 8% of its potential.
As he thought of this notification rang through his mind.

After looking at the system notifications, I moved on to the next course of business, the main reason for coming to the gate. I closed the system window and turned around, moving towards the corpses of the monsters that had fallen to my hands a few moments ago. As I did this, I activated observation haki to make sure no one else was around before kneeling down in front of the corpse of the wolf, taking in the sight of the dead before reinforcing my jaw with mana as I began Devouring the
I began devouring its head, biting through its skull first before devouring its brain, then moving on to its heart, then all of its needed organs and organ system. Throughout this process, my mind was clear, and the flavor of the wolf permeated throughout my body, slowly seeping through my being. Soon, nothing remained of the wolf, not even fur or bone, but a dense crystal of mana, its mana stone.
