Chapter 45: Chapter 45
Mai Lee moved through the ruined battlefield, the weight of his recent victory pressing down on his shoulders. The air was thick with the metallic scent of blood, and the scattered remnants of monsters lay in twisted heaps around him. The night sky above was painted in hues of deep indigo, the distant stars barely visible beyond the drifting smoke of destruction.
His mind, however, was already elsewhere. The battle had given him more than just experience; it had shown him the limits of his current abilities and the potential for growth that lay ahead. With each fight, he refined his techniques, learned from his opponents, and fused new talents that pushed his combat prowess beyond normal understanding.

Talent Fusion Successful: "Ethereal Movement" (Merged from Phantom Reflexes and Ghost Step)
Mai Lee's gaze lingered on the notification. Shadow Warp allowed him to momentarily slip between dimensions, making him nearly untouchable for a brief second—a perfect skill for evasion and counterattacks. However, what interested him more was his newly fused talent, Ethereal Movement. The combination of Phantom Reflexes and Ghost Step meant that not only could he instinctively dodge attacks with extreme precision, but he could also move through space like a phantom, unhindered by terrain or obstacles.
"Every battle pushes me further," he murmured. "At this rate… nothing will be able to stop me."
A faint rustling broke the eerie silence of the battlefield. Mai Lee's eyes sharpened, his body tensed for combat. His enhanced perception picked up on a subtle shift in the mana around him—someone was watching.
Without hesitation, he activated Shadow Warp, instantly vanishing from sight. A mere second later, he reappeared on the rooftop of a collapsed building, his gaze scanning the ruins below.
Nothing.
But he knew better than to trust his eyes alone. Closing them, he focused on the energy fluctuations in the air, searching for the slightest disturbance. And then—there it was. A presence. A faint signature of life force, well-hidden but not enough to escape his detection.
"You might as well show yourself." His voice was calm but firm. "I don't take kindly to being spied on."
Silence.
Then, a slow, deliberate clap echoed through the desolate space. A figure emerged from the shadows, draped in a long, dark cloak. Their face was partially obscured, but the smirk playing on their lips was visible beneath the hood.
"Impressive," the stranger said. "Not many would have sensed me. Even fewer would have had the nerve to call me out."
Mai Lee remained silent, his muscles coiled like a spring. He didn't sense immediate hostility, but that didn't mean he would drop his guard. "Who are you?"
The stranger chuckled. "Just an observer… for now. But I must say, your talents are quite fascinating." They tilted their head slightly. "How is it that you grow so fast? Skills, abilities, power—it's almost as if you're absorbing everything around you."
Mai Lee's eyes narrowed. Whoever this was, they knew too much. He stepped forward slightly, keeping his stance neutral but ready. "And what does an 'observer' want from me?"
The figure shrugged. "That depends. Some might want to study you. Others might want to control you. And some… might want to eliminate you."
A slow smirk crept across Mai Lee's lips. "And you? Which one are you?"
The stranger didn't answer immediately. Instead, they turned slightly, as if considering something in the distance. "That remains to be seen. But I will say this—power like yours never goes unnoticed. Be careful, Mai Lee. The world is watching."
Before he could react, the stranger's body faded into the shadows, disappearing entirely from view.
Mai Lee stood still for a moment, his thoughts racing.
Another unknown variable. Another challenge to overcome. But that was fine. If the world was watching, then he would make sure they saw something unforgettable.
With one last glance at the empty battlefield, Mai Lee turned and disappeared into the night, ready for the next step in his evolution.
