Solo Leveling: Infinite Talent

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: A New Opportunity

Mai Lee stepped out of the dungeon, the cool night air brushing against his skin as he stood at the entrance. The world outside was quiet, the sky dotted with a thousand stars, but his mind was far from peaceful. His victory had been swift, but there was more to be done. Every battle, every challenge, brought him closer to the ultimate power he sought, but he was also aware that his ascent wouldn't go unnoticed for long.

He had to be prepared for the inevitable—a time when others would come looking for him, whether to join him, challenge him, or eliminate him. The higher he rose, the more eyes would be on him, and the more dangerous the world would become. He had to be strategic, calculating, and, above all, patient. There was no rush. His path was his own to carve.

As he made his way back to the city, he found himself thinking about the next step. He had already established that raw power alone wouldn't be enough. Influence, alliances, and information were just as important. While Mai Lee had no desire to join any of the major factions or guilds, he couldn't ignore the fact that their resources could be useful. If he could infiltrate their ranks, learn from them, and then use them to further his own plans—he could grow even faster.

As he neared the city gates, a sudden chill in the air caught his attention. A presence, unmistakable, loomed nearby. Mai Lee's instincts flared, and without hesitation, he melted into the shadows, his figure vanishing from sight.

A group of figures stood outside the city gates, clad in dark cloaks. They were a faction of hunters, known for their ruthlessness and power. It wasn't long before Mai Lee recognized them—The Black Crescent Guild. Their reputation for eliminating rivals and hunting down rogue hunters was well-known, and their members were feared in every city. He had heard whispers of their leader, a man who was said to be a master of shadow manipulation and an expert in tracking down hidden enemies.

Mai Lee's heart raced with excitement. This was an opportunity, one he couldn't afford to pass up.

He stayed hidden in the shadows, his eyes narrowing as he watched the Black Crescent Guild members exchange words in hushed tones. They were discussing something important, something that involved power. Mai Lee's curiosity got the better of him, and he focused on their conversation.

"The target is moving fast," one of the members said, his voice low and steady. "We need to intercept them before they reach the forest outskirts. The rewards for eliminating this one will be worth it."

The leader of the group nodded, his face hidden behind the hood of his cloak. "Don't fail this time. The last one got away, and we can't afford another mistake. The higher-ups are watching."

Mai Lee's mind raced. The Black Crescent Guild had been hired to eliminate someone. If he could figure out who this target was, perhaps he could learn something valuable. It could be an opportunity to make an alliance, or perhaps even eliminate the target himself. He had no loyalty to either side—his interests were only in furthering his own power.

With swift and silent movements, Mai Lee followed the guild from a distance, careful not to be seen. He could feel the growing tension in the air as they approached the outskirts of the city. The target was close, and Mai Lee's instincts told him that something big was about to happen.

Soon enough, they reached the forest, the trees casting long shadows under the moonlight. The Black Crescent Guild spread out, searching for their prey. Mai Lee crouched behind a large rock, his eyes scanning the area, waiting for the right moment to strike.

It didn't take long. A figure appeared in the distance—clad in tattered armor, their face obscured by a hood. They were clearly running, but not in fear. Mai Lee could sense something different about this person. Their aura was unlike anything he had encountered before. It was powerful, unyielding. Whoever they were, they weren't easy prey.

The Black Crescent Guild members didn't waste time. They closed in quickly, surrounding the target. A fight was about to begin.

Mai Lee could hear the leader of the guild call out, "You're surrounded. Surrender now, and we'll make it quick."

The hooded figure raised their head, their voice calm but filled with authority. "I'll never surrender to the likes of you."

Without warning, the figure raised their hand, and the air seemed to crackle with energy. The ground beneath their feet trembled, and Mai Lee felt a surge of power that made his heart race. The person in front of him wasn't just any target. They were powerful—perhaps more powerful than anyone in the Black Crescent Guild.

The leader of the guild didn't hesitate. "Kill them!"

The battle erupted with a violence that shook the forest to its core. Mai Lee watched, hidden in the shadows, as the guild members attacked. But to his surprise, the hooded figure didn't back down. They moved with precision, their movements fluid and graceful as they effortlessly dodged the attacks. Every strike they made was precise, and the Black Crescent Guild members fell one by one, unable to keep up with the figure's speed and strength.

Mai Lee's mind raced as he watched the destruction unfold. Whoever this person was, they weren't just a target—they were someone he needed to know more about. He could feel his Abyssal Soul Fusion resonating with their power. It was as though the darkness within him was responding to theirs.

Just as the last of the Black Crescent Guild members fell to the ground, the hooded figure turned their gaze toward Mai Lee's hiding spot. Their eyes were hidden beneath the hood, but Mai Lee could feel their gaze piercing through him. For a moment, time seemed to stop.

The figure spoke softly, almost as if they were aware of his presence the entire time. "You've been watching me."

Mai Lee didn't flinch. "I was interested in your skills," he replied, stepping out from the shadows, revealing himself to the mysterious figure.

The hooded figure didn't react, but their voice held a hint of curiosity. "You've got power, I can sense it. What is it you want, hunter?"

Mai Lee smiled. This encounter was exactly what he had been hoping for.

"I'm looking for allies," he said. "And perhaps... someone to challenge me."

The figure laughed softly, the sound like wind through the trees. "You have courage. But do you have the strength to back it up?"

Mai Lee's grin widened. "Let's find out."
