Chapter 10: Miyagi Ryota Returns!
At Shohoku High School, in the gymnasium.
"Look, it's Miyagi Ryota! That guy is back!"
"Do you think he'll play?"
As soon as they saw Miyagi Ryohta, the crowd in the gym started talking.
A young man with brown punk-style hair and an earring swaggered into the gym.
The first thing he did was look at the shocking score.
He couldn't help but comment.
17:4.
This man was a second-year student, Shohoku's starting point guard, Miyagi Ryohta.
"Ayako, long time no see!"
After commenting on the score, he walked toward Ayako with an affectionate smile.
"Miyagi, you got out of the hospital early?"
Ayako's face lit up as she saw the familiar face.
"Heh, yeah, the doctor said I could leave," Miyagi said with a wide grin, looking flushed with happiness.
"Good, glad you're back. That means you'll be able to play in the game."
Ayako checked Miyagi's condition, scanning his body from top to bottom.
"Don't worry, Ayako, leave it to me when the time comes."
Miyagi said with a smile, then glanced at Sakuragi Hanamichi, before heading over to Akagi and the others.
"Ayako, who's that guy? Why can he play and I can't? Ahhh, I want to play too!"
Seeing Miyagi preparing to play, Sakuragi went into a frenzy.
"Shut up, Sakuragi Hanamichi, keep training."
Ayako quickly slapped Sakuragi with a cardboard.
Sakuragi, feeling wronged like a baby weighing over a hundred pounds, held the basketball in his hands and continued his dribbling practice.
"Miyagi? You're back? That's awesome! Are you really okay now?"
Kogure's eyes brightened as soon as he saw Miyagi. The previous feeling of discouragement disappeared, and he was now filled with surprise.
"Yeah, it's nothing serious. But you guys... you let the first-year freshmen beat you like this without me."
"Looks like I really am needed here."
After briefly responding to Kogure, Miyagi looked at the score with a bit of arrogance.
"This game is no simple matter. There's been some unexpected stuff."
Kogure adjusted his glasses awkwardly and explained briefly what had happened with Ryu.
"Really?"
Miyagi was interested when he heard Kogure's words. He looked over at Ryu with a skeptical tone and asked,
"Enough, Miyagi, it's good that you're back. Yasuda, go off, let Miyagi defend Ryu."
"Kogure, you take care of Kuwata."
After Miyagi arrived, Akagi was also a bit surprised but quickly made the lineup change.
With Miyagi defending Ryu, even though they were quite different in height, he would be much more stable than Kogure.
"Alright, I'll go meet this guy."
Miyagi nodded after hearing Akagi's arrangement and quickly changed into his sportswear. Despite his shorter stature, his body was in good shape.
"Miyagi, we're counting on you."
Yasuda felt relieved after hearing Akagi's decision. Though his time on the court would be limited, the pressure from Ryu and Rukawa was intense.
"Got it! Let's take back the lost points."
Akagi shouted with energy, and his voice reached everyone's ears.
"Yeah!"
After Miyagi returned, the others' confidence soared, and they began shouting excitedly.
On the sidelines,
The crowd went wild when they saw Miyagi take the court.
"Miyagi Ryota, he's finally playing!"
"I wonder how the matchup will go."
"I'm really looking forward to it!"
The crowd eagerly awaited Miyagi's performance.
On the first-year side,
Since they hadn't seen Miyagi before, they didn't feel anything too special. They had a huge lead, after all, and they thought swapping one player wouldn't change things. Plus, they had Ryu and Rukawa.
But when Ryu saw Miyagi,
He was slightly surprised.
He wondered if Miyagi was here to defend him. He felt a sense of anticipation.
Soon,
At the sound of the referee's whistle,
The game continued.
Akagi's team would start with the ball.
"Miyagi, watch out for Ryu."
Akagi passed the ball to Miyagi and reminded him.
"Leave it to me. I want to see what this rookie is really about."
Miyagi received the ball with his right hand, lightly tapping his chest with his left hand.
"Don't rush. Let's make a basket first."
Then, he slowly dribbled past half-court.
At that moment,
Ryu quickly appeared in front of Miyagi and courteously said,
"Senpai, I look forward to your guidance."
In his mind, with his Phantom Steal skill, if Miyagi held the ball for more than 5 seconds, it would be very dangerous.
And as the ball came up court, the time was just right.
"It's just like Kogure said."
"Junior, be careful. I'm coming."
Miyagi dribbled, and hearing Ryu's tone, though he wasn't great at studying, he could sense the challenge in his words.
As soon as Ryu finished speaking, Miyagi's dribbling speed increased dramatically.
