Sins Loom: The Unwilling Weaver

Chapter 52

Stumbling out of the bar, Adrian got to his car, taking a moment to get the key into the lock.

“Fucking piece a shit.” Eventually, he managed to unlock the car, throwing himself into the front seat. Annoyed at the door, he focused hard on trying to get the key into the ignition. Hearing the engine start he rejoiced. “Fuck Yeah!”

Fiddling with the gear stick, he looked out the back window to see if the coast was clear. Pressing his foot down, the car shot forward over the curb. With a shrug, he continued driving forward onto the road, pulling into the correct lane.

DING! DING! DING! DING!

Hearing the car beeping constantly, he realised that he didn’t put on his seatbelt. Fumbling around for a second, he eventually silenced the car. Now surrounded by complete and utter silence, Adrian slowly regained control of his body, drunkenly looking out the window. Where am I? Shit!

The car veers around the corner, narrowly avoiding getting T-boned by an oncoming car. The car swerved around on the road for a little while before he was able to get it under control. I need to focus. Driving carefully, he stared at every car as they passed by, being careful not to make the same mistake. How did I get here? Ugh, all I can remember is that I was drinking on the couch... I must’ve blacked out, but how did I get here?

Narrowly avoiding the car in front of him, he worried that he won’t be able to last for long. I need to pull over. I’m too drunk to be driving. Looking out the window, he tried to pull over to the side of the road.

“Good evening, Adrian. This route might be starting to feel familiar to you now. This is the same route you took the night you drove through that teenage boy. In fact, I’ve gone to the liberty of making everything identical to that night. That was going to include your current inebriated state, but you had already achieved that. Instead of wallowing in guilt and shame, you need to redeem yourself. Your only way to survive is to make it back home without getting into an accident. Also, I would highly advise against doing that right now. After all, you didn’t stop on that night. Good luck.”

Hearing the staticky voice coming from the radio, it took Adrian a moment to react. Still in the process of parking on the side of the road, he suddenly felt an immense pain shoot through his body. Slamming his foot down, the car shot forward back onto the road, causing the pain to dissipate. What was that?

BEEP!

Shocked by the pain, he narrowly avoided another collision, swerving back into his lane. Fuck this! Sweating heavily, he tried his best to stay safe, looking warily at the surrounding traffic. What happened that night? Racking his brain, he tried to remember everything that happened, hoping to avoid any accidents, but ultimately came up short. He was too drunk then and is too drunk now to remember anything.

Turning around the corner, his car popped over the curb. Try as he might, he can’t fight against his drunken state. His car swerved awkwardly across the road, narrowly missing other cars, sometimes even scraping across them. When that happened, pain shot through his body, weakening him further.

Tightly gripping onto the steering wheel, he awkwardly turned around the corner, narrowly missing the streetlight. I can’t keep doing this.

Thankfully, he started to make his way towards the edge of town, the roads becoming emptier and emptier. Although he no longer had to worry so much about other cars, he still kept his guard up, not wanting anything to happen. Bloodied and bruised, the pain started to get to him. Combined with the alcohol, his reaction speed ground to a halt, and his vision became blurry. But he tried his best, managing to make it into the outskirts of the city with only some minor bumps and scratches.

I’m almost home. Thinking of home, he felt a wave of tiredness wash over him. His eyes closed for a moment, but he snapped back awake when he feels an immense amount of pain. He found himself driving on the footpath, brushing past the trees and bushes on the side. Swerving back onto the road, he overcorrected, running his car into the gutter, his bumper flew off, and at the same time, a massive gash cuts across his forehead. The bone clearly visible.

He screamed out in pain, The blood flowed heavily down his face, blocking his vision with a thick stream of blood. He quickly turned the car, getting it back on the road before taking his hands off the wheel. Tearing his shirt off, he wiped the blood from his face, then wrapped it around the wound, hoping to stop the blood from getting into his eyes.

Thankfully it worked, but the pain remained. However, there was nothing he could do about it, so he tried to get home as fast as possible.

The car raced around the corner, turning onto an old, abandoned street. Looking at the rundown houses, a memory in his brain was triggered, freezing on the face of the teenager moments before he ran him over. Shit, I need to be careful.

However, it was too late. Just as he tried to slow down, his car hit a pothole, spinning out of control and ploughing right through the person. The pain hit him instantly, and his body was sent flying out of the car, turning into a bloody mess. His body skidded across the pavement, but his last thought was left on the image of the teenager caught in his headlights.

“You have failed to make it home safely, Adrian. Not only that, but you have also once again run over that poor child. But this time, you have suffered the consequences of your actions. Enjoy Hell Adrian, Goodbye.”
