Chapter 183
Name: Jeffrey Smith
Age: 32
Occupation: Chef
Biography: Born to parents John and Belinda Smith, Jeffrey was the youngest of three children. He didn’t have much interest in schooling until he reached high school and picked food tech as an elective. He became fond of cooking, helping out at home whenever he could. He managed to scrape by with his grades so that he would graduate from high school.
He began working part time in small diners and restaurants while studying at culinary school. He then became a chef at a moderately successful local restaurant.
One day, while he was closing up for the night, someone came into the restaurant and started causing a scene. When one of the other employees tried to calm him down, he pushed them to the ground, injuring them, then rushed into the kitchen.
The person grabbed a knife and started waving it around to scare people away. A few people were slightly injured and the scene was chaotic. Jeffrey, without thinking, he tackled the man to the ground and tried to wrestle the knife away from him. In the tussle, the knife was plunged into his chest and the man died...

Of course it’s something questionable. He felt like Buddie was doing this on purpose, and had deliberately sent him this one. Did the person die? Yes. Yes he did. But Jeffrey was acting in self defence, and was also defending others who had been injured.
It’s unfortunate that the man died, but he was endangering other people’s lives. Ed sighed, knowing this was just an unfortunate accident that Buddie had latched onto. Jeffrey hadn’t intended to sin. He didn’t want any of this.
The man was clearly unwell, people got hurt, and an accident happened. Ed felt sorry for Jeffrey for catching the company’s attention. Sorry, but I can’t take this punishment for you, no matter how much I want to.
Ed scanned through the information again and again, an idea slowly forming in his mind. Next to him, Zara had already jumped into the design process, a clear idea having already come to her after reading it the first time.
Ed noticed the slight, cheerful smile on her face as she was enraptured in the process of creation. Looks like she’ll finish this one up quickly. I shouldn’t keep her waiting.
Pulling up the design tools, he began explaining his idea to Buddie. He started off by creating the kitchen where it all happened, then added Jeffrey and the man. Don’t think I’ll need anyone else. The two of them should be just fine. “Make sure to limit the actor to the strength and mindset of the man.”
I want to make it fairly easy for the man to get out of here, but Buddie won’t allow that. If I’m going to increase his chances of survival, it means he’s going to have to suffer a little.
Ed went to work designing a mechanism where the two were tied together by a metal cord that would tighten the closer they got to each other. He would have to wrestle the knife from the man’s hand without the man dying, while also stopping the man from killing him.
He knew that Buddie wouldn’t accept this level of difficulty, especially after what just happened. Jeffrey had almost succeeded at this in the first place. It was only an accident that the man died. As long as Jeffrey was careful, it wouldn’t happen again.
To balance this out, Ed set it so that the cords were wrapped around their dominant hands, and if the two’s hands touched, Jeffrey’s end would tighten and slice of his hand. This would basically have to happen if Jeffrey wanted to get the knife without risking an accident.
So Ed thought a guaranteed debilitating injury in order to survive would be good enough for Buddie, and he was right.
“That’s it for my plan,” he said.
“Thank you for submitting your plan, I will let you know when it’s ready.”
Zara had already finished her plan a bit ago and was waiting and watching him while he worked. Having finished with his design, the two got up and went back to her place to have something to eat.
“What did your person do?” he asked.
“Murdered a few people. Just your typical serial killer really. Yours?” Zara went about pulling out a few things from the fridge so that she could make some sandwiches.
“Accidentally killed someone.” Ed set out two chopping boards as they stood next to each other preparing the ingredients. He sliced the tomatoes while she grated thin slices of cheese off a big block.
Pulling out some sliced ham, they made ham, cheese, and tomato sandwiches. Tossing the used dishes into the sink and grabbing some plates, they sat down at the table.
“Buddie kicked me out of my apartment, can I stay here for a bit?” Ed asked.
“Of course! Stay as long as you need,” she said with her mouth full. She had already gotten used to them sharing a place, so she was happy that they would be doing it at work now as well. She would’ve asked even if he hadn’t.
“Do you have anything with you?” she asked.
“Just the book.”
“Alright. We’ll go shopping to get you some stuff when work’s finished.”
Ed scratched the back of his neck, slightly embarrassed and annoyed. “He froze my bank account too.”
“Seriously?” Zara glared up at the ceiling, as if she was staring at Buddie. “That’s fine, I’ve still got a bunch of credits.”
“Thanks.” Ed mumbled gratefully amid eating his sandwich.
The two weren’t sure how long they had left until Buddie called them back, so they decided to go for a relaxing stroll after finishing their light lunch. They didn’t want to do anything too time consuming and be forced to cut the activity short.
They walked through the door to a quiet street near a river, and were called back after digesting their meal.
