Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Human Tiptoe, Possessed by a Ghost
At this moment, Xie Yao was no longer herself.
Lu Fei's whole body tensed up.
After a stiff two-second standoff, Xie Yao suddenly moved, not towards Lu Fei, but instead tiptoed and ran out.
"Miss Xie!"
Lu Fei quickly chased after her.
However, where was her figure in the dimly lit master bedroom?
She had run so fast, yet there was not a single sound of footsteps.
Lu Fei was sweating profusely with anxiety.
When controlled by an evil entity, one can do many terrible things that are hard to understand, either hurting others or harming oneself.
"If she's not in the master bedroom, then she must have run downstairs!"
Lu Fei ran out of the master bedroom and stood in the corridor, looking down.
The spacious, high-ceilinged living room only had the faint shimmer from the huge crystal chandelier above, while the entire first floor was engulfed in darkness.
Like a stagnant pond, there was no sign of Xie Yao anywhere.
He took out his phone and, using the light from the flashlight, hurried down the stairs.
After just a few steps, he suddenly felt something grab his ankle fiercely.
He stumbled, his body lurching forward, but luckily, he reacted quickly and managed to grab the handrail, preventing himself from falling.
Lu Fei pulled up his pant leg and saw a dark claw mark on his ankle, where the skin had become numb and insensitive.
Lu Fei grabbed a handful of incense ash and scattered it around.
Vaguely, it seemed as if something had receded.
Then, holding onto the handrail, he carefully made his way down the stairs step by step, finally reaching the first floor.
The thick double curtains were drawn, making the entire first floor airtight, gloomy, and lifeless.
Lu Fei cautiously looked around, feeling as if a pair of cold eyes were watching him from the darkness.
While carefully searching, he suddenly heard a voice coming from behind.
He quickly turned around, just in time to see Xie Yao's figure flash by the corner of the stairs. He immediately chased after her and found that there was another door behind it.
The door was half-open, the door panel slightly swinging, and a cold, eerie chill emanated from within.
Lu Fei raised his phone.
In the dim light, a staircase extending downward came into view, with Xie Yao's pale figure disappearing like a ghost at the end of the stairs.
"It's the basement."
Lu Fei had a very bad feeling about this.
The descent down the stairs went smoothly, and the basement was spacious.
This place was a dedicated gym.
"Miss Xie!"
Turning the corner, Lu Fei finally saw Xie Yao.
At the end of the gym, there was a large mirror covering an entire wall.
Xie Yao stood in front of the mirror, her hair disheveled, constantly repeating something under her breath.
Her eerie appearance sent chills down one's spine.
"What is she saying?"
Lu Fei didn't have time to think about it; the immediate priority was to take the bone-cutting knife from her hand.
He cautiously approached Xie Yao, and when he got close enough, he grabbed her wrist that held the knife.
Xie Yao suddenly turned around, grabbing Lu Fei's wrist with her other hand. Her wild, long hair framed eyes full of red bloodshot, glaring fiercely at him.
In the next moment, Lu Fei was horrified to see, in the mirror, one after another, grotesque dark shadows appearing behind her.
In the mirror, those dark shadows acted. With their twisted black hands, they grabbed Xie Yao's head, and slowly began to tear her shadow out from her body.
"Soul! They want to tear out her soul!"
Lu Fei's eyes widened to the extreme.
In this instant, he finally knew what the necklace was.
A Soul-Sucking Chain!
A necklace capable of sucking away a person's soul, made through extremely cruel means; each bone bead could contain a resentful spirit.
Those dark shadows were the souls sucked into the necklace.
This was indeed a rare object; just who did Xie Yao offend?
A flash of insight hit him.
Finding an opportunity to circle around behind Xie Yao, he forcefully stabbed the peachwood knife at the dark shadow in the mirror.
Crack!
The peachwood knife and the mirror shattered at the same time, with web-like cracks spreading across the mirror's surface. The dark shadow twisted and vanished, leaving a scattering of bone beads on the ground.
Xie Yao collapsed limply, unconscious, while the bone-cutting knife clattered to the side.
But the bone necklace was not done yet; the ashen beads rolled towards the two of them.
This thing was too ferocious; the peachwood knife had lost its power after just one use.
Lu Fei quickly hoisted Xie Yao onto his back and ran up the stairs, all the way to the entrance.
But the door was closed.
Lu Fei distinctly remembered that he hadn't closed the door when he came in. He tried turning the doorknob with all his might, but it wouldn't budge.
The door was locked from the outside!
Lu Fei was greatly alarmed.
Who had locked the door?
