Sinisterium Pawnshop: Exclusive to Malevolent Objects

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Trading Lives for Wealth

The old locust tree cast swaying shadows under the streetlights.

The cold and desolate street had only Lu Fei on it.

  "Am I just being paranoid?"

Lu Fei looked around and suspiciously retracted his gaze.

He took down the sign that read "Owner Out, Call for Service" and opened the door, heading straight to the back courtyard.

At this hour, it was impossible to have any customers.

Lu Fei washed up early and went to bed.

No matter how tragic or terrifying the matter at Duobao Xuan was, it ultimately had nothing to do with him. Besides, there might not even be any evil objects; it could just be a rumor spread by people on the street.

The police only took the people away in the afternoon, so how could the investigation results come out so quickly?

Thinking about the need to go to Liu Fugui's friend's house tomorrow to collect the evil object, Lu Fei shook his head to clear his thoughts and closed his eyes to sleep.

Early the next morning, he opened the pawnshop's door.

Liu Fugui arrived as agreed, carrying a breakfast with him.

  "Young Master Lu, good morning."

  "Uncle FuGui, good morning."

"If there are no problems, let's set off now."

Liu FuGui drove a spacious commercial vehicle, which was quite comfortable to sit in.

On the way, the two inevitably talked about DuoBaoXuan.

"Ah, Old Liang must have been set up. I had warned him long ago not to be too harsh in his dealings and to leave some leeway for others. He wouldn't listen, sigh..."

"Uncle FuGui, do you know what he collected?"

Liu FuGui shook his head, and his double chin wobbled along with it.

"I don't know exactly what it is, but it must be something nasty. The other day, I saw him come back from outside, holding something wrapped tightly in black cloth."

"Although I didn't see clearly what it was, that thing had a gloomy and menacing aura."

"Having been in the antique business for a long time, even though my eyesight isn't as sharp as yours at Sinisterium Pawnshop, I have developed a bit of an eye for these things."

"I felt uneasy at the time and indirectly asked him what good stuff he had acquired."

"He said it was a treasure that a big boss had been looking for a long time, which he had managed to get from a family in the countryside, but he didn't tell me what it was, as if he was afraid I would steal his business."

"Which big boss would collect something with killing intent? I guessed he had been cheated, but I didn't expect something so terrible to happen the next day!"

Lu Fei's scalp tingled: "What kind of grudge or hatred is this? The method is too cruel! They say the innocent should not be harmed, but the opponent made Boss Liang kill his own wife and children with his own hands. This must be more painful than killing him directly."

"Ah, aren't there many people in the world without a moral bottom line?" Liu Fugui sighed, then started flattering, "If everyone were as kind and just as your Sinisterium Pawnshop, collecting evil objects and accumulating good deeds, the world would have been at peace long ago."

Lu Fei thought to himself, we aren't that noble; it's just another tricky business.

"Let's not talk about these things. Today, we are going to my friend's house to see an evil object. My friend's surname is Su, and he is a prominent figure in Jiangcheng." Liu Fugui, remembering the purpose of today, quickly got back to the topic.

Lu Fei collected his thoughts and said, "Yesterday you mentioned that the evil object at their place is a statue?"

"Yes, their business has been a bit rough these past two years, so they found a master in another place to bring back a statue for good fortune. The business did pick up, but..." Liu Fugui swallowed and his expression became serious.

"But one after another, members of their family began to suffer!"

  "What do you mean?"

"Every time they close a business deal, someone in their family has bad luck, either being diagnosed with a terminal illness or having an accident."

Lu Fei's eyebrows twitched: "That's quite fierce. What kind of deity did they invite?"

"I only know that they spent a lot of money to bring it back from Southeast Asia." Liu Fugui curled his lips. "I've heard for a long time that the things over there are strange. I don't know what they were thinking, going there to invite a deity."

"If they really use human lives to exchange for good fortune, it might be an evil deity," Lu Fei mused.

An evil deity is no easy opponent, more ferocious than ordinary malevolent objects.

Liu Fugui glanced at his expression and said lightly, "Don't worry. When we get there, you can take a look first. If we can deal with it, great. If not, we haven't lost anything. But I believe in the skills of young Shopkeeper Lu. There's nothing in this world that Sinisterium Pawnshop can't handle!"

"Uncle Fugui, were you a horse breeder in your past life?" Lu Fei suddenly looked at him very seriously.

  "What do you mean?"

"Otherwise, why would you always like flattery?"

Liu Fugui was taken aback for a moment, then he laughed awkwardly, 'Haha, I'm telling the truth... we're almost there!'

Saying this, he turned the steering wheel and drove the car toward an exceptionally grand and imposing gate.

There were coiling dragons encircling each of the pillars on either side of the gate, and behind the dragons was a massive landscape feature at the entrance.

Beneath the majestic and verdant artificial mountain, clear streams flowed gently, and in the center of the stream, a huge creamy-white column continuously rolled.

In feng shui, this is a layout that gathers and retains energy.

Behind the landscape, there were lush and rare trees, with the outlines of some elaborate buildings faintly visible through the foliage.

  Lu Fei was slightly surprised.

Dragon Soaring Creek Valley, this villa area is famous in Jiangcheng, and it's not like the small villa where Xie Yao lives; one needs more than just a little money to live here.

The people who live here are either wealthy or powerful.

Wealthy, as in being among the richest of the rich.

Noble, as in the nobility of power and wealth.

Liu Fugui, with his air of a market peddler and years of frequenting the antique street, could he actually have friends of this level?

Could it be that this guy is more than meets the eye?

Lu Fei couldn't help but take another look at him.

"The car is too shabby; I'm embarrassed to drive it in. I'll trouble Young Boss Lu to walk a few steps with me." Liu Fugui parked the car in the parking lot outside Longxi Valley.

  "No problem."

They walked up to the grand gate, and Liu Fugui, with a smile, said a few words to the well-postured security guard at the entrance.

After the security guard spoke on the intercom, he let the two of them in.

Circling around the massive artificial mountain, they entered the villa area.

Inside, the pavilions and terraces, winding paths, and every plant and tree were meticulously arranged. Moreover, the vast expanse of the area was like an ultra-large garden.

If Lu Fei came in by himself, he would definitely get lost.

He couldn't help but straighten his clothes, and inwardly thought, "This Liu Fugui should have mentioned it earlier. If I had known, I would have changed into something more decent. Now, I'm not even dressed as well as the security guard."

"The No. 9 courtyard belongs to the Su family."

In front of a large and impressive villa, Liu Fugui stopped.

"Mr. Su has bought some antiques from me a few times and found my prices fair and me trustworthy, so he asked me to find someone to help. Despite their wealth and power, Mr. Su is actually a very approachable person with no airs about him."

As he spoke, Liu Fugui reached out and pressed the doorbell.

"Who is it?" a calm voice came through.

"Mr. Su, it's me, Xiao Liu."

Liu Fugui put on a fawning smile, facing the camera.

  "Please wait a moment."

Two seconds later, the heavy and sturdy carved gate creaked open with a click.

"Manager Xiao Lu, please come in."

Lu Fei and Liu Fugui walked into the spacious courtyard together.

"Mr. Liu, right? Please follow me."

An old man, who looked like a steward, led the two to a side hall of the villa.

"Gentlemen, my master is on his way back from the hospital and will be here soon. If you don't mind, you can first pay your respects to the Buddha Mother."

At the entrance of the side hall, the steward spoke in a low voice, as if he was afraid that something might hear him.

  Pay respects to the Buddha?

Isn't it a malevolent deity? We still need to pay respects?

Liu Fugui looked at Lu Fei.

Lu Fei nodded: "Alright, let's go take a look first."

  "Please."

The butler pushed open the door.

A scent of incense ashes wafted towards them.

A dimly lit yet luxurious side hall came into their view.

Lu Fei immediately saw the altar placed against the wall inside.

On the altar, a statue shrouded in red cloth stood silently.
