Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Meat-Eating Village
Seeing that the other man recognized the description, Hu Zi immediately became excited and said through gritted teeth, "I'm looking for that Old Wang..."
Lu Fei quickly interrupted him, saying, "We are looking for that old man to buy antiques. Last time, he showed one to my friend, but we had to leave in a hurry and didn't get a good look. Now we've come back to ask about it again."
If the old man was from this village and the middle-aged man knew that Hu Zi was here to settle a score, he might protect the old man.
After Lu Fei finished speaking, he even nudged Hu Zi with his elbow.
Huzi reacted and nodded hurriedly: "Yes, yes, we're here to buy antiques from him."
"Buy antiques? When did that happen?" The middle-aged man's expression became even more peculiar.
"A few days ago, the day my boss came to your house. While I was waiting outside, the old man brought an antique and asked if I wanted to buy it."
"Are you sure you didn't see it wrong, an old man with black spots on his body?"
"I'd recognize him even if he were ashes, I couldn't be mistaken!"
Seeing Huzi speak so confidently, the middle-aged man's eyes widened, showing a shocked expression, saying: "It's really rare! How could Huangjiao Village actually be willing to sell those treasures?"
Huzi asked eagerly: "Uncle, do you know him?"
"I don't know him, but their villagers don't like to interact with others. However, their village has a hereditary disease; once people get old, they develop black spots. If you didn't see it wrong, it must be someone from Huangjiao Village."
"Where is Huangjiao Village?"
"It's up on the mountain behind! I really didn't expect this. Many people used to go to their village to collect antiques, but they were always unwilling. Now, they are actually taking the initiative to sell their treasures."
Lu Fei asked curiously, "What treasure does their village have that's so famous?"
"I heard there's an ancient tomb, inside which a lot of precious items are buried." The middle-aged man glanced at them, "So you guys don't know?"
"He didn't tell us much, just showed us something."
"Then you better be careful!" The middle-aged man lowered his voice and said in a mysterious tone: "That tomb is very sinister. Many treasure hunters have had their eyes on it before. Guess what? Several groups went in, but not a single person returned!"
"That bad?"
Lu Fei and Hu Zi exchanged a glance, both thinking the ancient tomb must be the grave of the hungry ghost.
"The things inside the ancient tomb are indeed good, but they're too yin; not many people can handle them. If you really want to collect antiques, I have a family heirloom..."
"Thanks, Uncle, we'll still head over to Huangjiao Village first."
Hu Zi shoved the entire pack of cigarettes into the middle-aged man's hand.
The middle-aged man didn't stand on ceremony and directly put the cigarettes in his pocket, then kindly reminded them: "If you really plan to enter the village, don't go empty-handed. The people in that village have strange tempers. Many antique collectors who went there before were driven out by them."
Huzi rolled up his sleeves: "I'll take care of them..."
Lu Fei held him back and asked the middle-aged man, "So, what should we do?"
"The people in their village love to eat meat; they can have it three times a day. We all call them the Meat-Eating Village. About a hundred years ago, there was a famine in this area, but while others had no rice to cook, they had meat. If you buy some meat and go over, it will be easier to talk to them."
"Eat meat?"
Huzi looked puzzled.
"Well, I see that it's not easy for you to make this trip. I have some free-range chickens at home. You can take two. I won't charge you much; give me 200 yuan and that'll be fine."
"Two hundred?"
"There are quite a few valuable treasures in that ancient tomb. If you can get a few pieces out, you'll make a fortune. What are two chickens compared to that?"
Before Huzi could answer, Lu Fei nodded in agreement.
"Alright, catch us two roosters with red combs."
"Alright!"
The middle-aged man quickly caught two roosters with red combs, put them into a snake skin bag, and thrust it into Hu Zi's hands.
Hu Zi, in a daze, gave him the money and only realized what had happened after he left the village.
"Brother Lu Fei, did I get tricked again? What meat-eating village or not, I think he made up that story just to sell me two chickens."
Lu Fei smiled, "Not necessarily. We are about to face an ancient tomb, the roosters might come in handy."
The road to the back mountain was impassable by car, so they had to walk up the mountain.
Hu Zi, not fully recovered yet, was out of breath from the exertion.
Lu Fei, on the other hand, was still in good shape.
Following the winding mountain path, when they reached halfway up the mountain, they saw a huge Huangjiao tree.
The trunk was incredibly thick, requiring the spread arms of two adults to encircle it. It must have been at least a hundred years old.
But this towering tree has long withered, leaving only a bare trunk twisting towards the sky, exuding an air of desolation and melancholy.
Behind the Yellow Horn Tree, there are many old village houses.
"This must be the place."
Lu Fei squinted as he examined the withered ancient tree.
"These kinds of trees are usually the feng shui trees of a village. This tree is so robust; the village must have been quite prosperous and thriving. It's a pity that the tree is dead, which means the village's feng shui has also declined."
Tiger gazed at him in admiration, saying, "Brother Lu Fei, you even know feng shui?"
"Just a little," Lu Fei smiled.
When he was young, his grandfather often talked about knowledge related to feng shui, astrology, yin-yang, and taboos. Grandfather said that those who deal in evil objects need to understand everything to avoid pitfalls.
He learned a lot by osmosis, but his grandfather always encouraged him to focus on his studies, so he rarely had the opportunity to apply what he learned.
"It's not easy for a feng shui tree to grow to this size and then die. The trunk is dark and somber, as if it has been struck by something. Could it be that some major event occurred in the village?"
Then, Lu Fei cast his gaze towards the village.
Surrounded by mountains and forests, the low and old houses huddled silently.
The earthen walls and gray tiles, with the walls as furrowed as an elderly person's face. Weeds sprouted relentlessly from every corner, and trees overshadowed the courtyards, making them desolate and deep.
It looked like just another ordinary small village, but it gave him an uneasy feeling, and he couldn't pinpoint the source of the discomfort.
"Whatever happens to their village, I'm going to settle the score with that old bastard right now!"
Huzi wiped the sweat from his brow and strode toward the village.
"Wait! If you go to him now, he definitely won't admit to anything. Our purpose here is to get the soil from the grave, and first, we need to resolve the hungry ghost curse on you." Lu Fei stopped him.
Huzi thought for a moment and forcibly retracted his legs.
"You're right! Once I come back to life, I'll deal with him properly!"
As he said this, he glanced around at his surroundings.
"This mountain is quite big, I wonder where the ancient tomb is. Brother Lu Fei, I remember you said yesterday that once we get to the place, you would have a way?"
"That's right." Lu Fei nodded.
"What way?"
"Simple, it will find itself."
Lu Fei asked Hu Zi to carry the chicken, and he took out that evil ghost coin, then tied a red string to the coin and threw it to the ground.
A gust of wind blew by, causing the fallen leaves and weeds to sway gently.
Then, the coin moved and actually stood up on its own!
