Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Sinisterium Pawnshop
Antique Street.
Lu Fei walked through the bustling streets, heading for a quieter area.
He continued walking until he reached the most secluded and desolate spot and stood in front of an inconspicuous small pawnshop.
The decoration of the pawnshop was very simple and rustic, but it did not appear old; instead, it had a unique charm that had been refined by time.
On the ancient sandalwood plaque above the entrance, there were several large characters carved in a flowing, graceful style.
Sinisterium Pawnshop.
This is the family business passed down through generations of Lu Fei's family.
Before, it was managed by his grandfather, and now it has been handed over to him.
Their pawnshop is quite special and different from ordinary ones. They never accept worldly valuables like gold, silver, or jewelry; instead, they specialize in objects with special, eerie value.
For example, mahjong tiles made from human skullcaps, the executioner's sword used for beheading in ancient times, and coffin boards dug up from old graves.
Grandpa often said, evil objects can harm people but can also help them!
These items, once handled by their pawnshop, can be transformed from evil to treasure, becoming valuable items that bring good fortune to people.
Mahjong tiles made from a dead person's skull can ensure one wins every bet, an executioner's blade can protect one from danger, and old coffin boards can bring promotions and wealth.
Curing illnesses, turning misfortune into good luck, and even defying fate and changing destiny.
These evil objects, after being transformed by them, attracted countless officials, nobles, and wealthy merchants. It is said that during its peak, even members of the royal family had patronized the shop.
Everyone in the underworld knew that the items from Sinisterium Pawnshop were worth more than gold, hard to obtain.
However, all that glory was in the past.
Sinisterium Pawnshop had long been in decline for many years.
Lu Fei took down the sign that read 'Owner out, please call,' pulled open the door, and walked into the pawnshop, a hint of disappointment on his young face.
'Still no news about grandpa.'
Three years ago, Grandpa went out to collect evil objects and never returned, leaving behind only a note and a bank card.
"Xiao Fei, do not look for me. Focus on your studies! In three years, you can reopen Sinisterium Pawnshop. If you can collect three evil objects within a month, continue the business. Otherwise, take the money and go as far away as possible!!!!"
The money left by Grandpa was enough for Lu Fei to live comfortably for the rest of his life.
Now, three years have passed.
Lu Fei graduated from university and, following Grandpa's instructions, returned to Sinisterium Pawnshop.
Although Grandpa had told him not to look for him.
Lu Fei still spent part of each day walking around the antique street, inquiring about news related to Grandpa.
But Grandpa seemed to have vanished without a trace, leaving no clues for Lu Fei.
"There's plenty of time ahead! First, complete the task Grandpa gave me and officially open Sinisterium Pawnshop. Then, I can gradually search. If he returns someday, at least the shop will still be here."
Lu Fei encouraged himself and started cleaning the pawnshop to prepare for customers.
But the location of his pawnshop is really too remote, with virtually no customer traffic.
It's been half a month since it opened, and not a single customer has come in.
At this rate, it will be impossible to collect three haunted objects within a month.
Should I take the initiative and inquire around on this antique street?
Old people and old trees have their own mysteries; old objects are the most likely to become haunted.
As Lu Fei was pondering, he suddenly noticed someone outside.
Under the old locust tree across from the pawnshop, a young woman in a white dress had appeared at some point, looking at the Sinisterium Pawnshop with an appraising gaze.
"Is she here to pawn something?"
Lu Fei took a couple of glances and suddenly his pupils constricted.
"Wait a minute, what's wrong with her shadow?"
He saw that there seemed to be more than one shadow under the woman's feet.
But before he could get a clear look, the woman hurried towards Sinisterium Pawnshop.
"Excuse me... Is this Sinisterium Pawnshop?"
A slightly hoarse voice spoke. As soon as the woman in the white dress entered, the air in the room seemed to cool down a few degrees. She glanced around the shop's interior, asking uncertainly.
"Yes, this is Sinisterium Pawnshop. How may I assist you?"
Lu Fei stood up and deliberately turned on the lights.
The woman appeared to be around twenty-five or twenty-six years old, tall and slender, with an exceptionally delicate oval face. She was very beautiful, but her skin was deathly pale, like that of a corpse.
Under the bright light.
There was a large, dark mass under her feet, more than one shadow.
At least a dozen, trailing behind her like a string of bizarre balloons!
Lu Fei was greatly startled.
What had this woman done to attract so many filthy things?
"How wonderful! Is Old Shopkeeper Lu here? I want to pawn something." The woman's haggard eyes lit up with joy as she pulled out an old, yellowed business card.
It had the name of Lu Fei's grandfather printed on it, along with the seal of Sinisterium Pawnshop.
This was a business card that Grandfather had given out in the past.
So it was an old customer!
Lu Fei hurriedly asked, "Miss, do you know my grandfather?"
"I don't know him. My name is Xie Yao. The business card was given to me by an elder in my family, who instructed me to find Old Shopkeeper Lu!"
The woman turned her head from side to side, looking very anxious.
"I'm sorry, my grandfather isn't here. My name is Lu Fei, and I am the current shopkeeper of Sinisterium Pawnshop. Miss Xie, please tell me what you want to pawn."
"What? Where did he go?" Xie Yao seemed to have heard some terrible news, her body swaying unsteadily.
"Miss Xie, be careful!"
Lu Fei quickly brought over a chair and asked her to sit down.
"When will Old Manager Lu return? Money is not an issue!" Xie Yao grabbed Lu Fei's arm, her eyes filled with urgency.
"Hiss!" Lu Fei instantly got goosebumps.
Her hand was like an ancient, unmelting block of ice, emitting a chilling cold. The cold was like a knife scraping against his flesh.
Her body was so cold, yet she was still wearing a skirt.
Being cold without realizing it is a sign of impending death!
If these strange phenomena are related to what she is about to receive, it must be an extremely ominous object!
