Chapter 76: The End of the Demon Slayer! A New Arrival!
Chu Yang surveyed the area and noticed that the wandering demons around him had lost most of their rationality. Though their auras were strong, they were extremely unstable.
It was clear that Muzan Kibutsuji had paid a huge price to create these temporary creatures to deal with him.
However, even though they were temporary creations, the sheer power of these demons was already close to Muzan's level, far surpassing that of Doma and Akaza, whom Chu Yang had previously fought.
As for who would prevail in a real battle, that was another matter.
"One, two, three, four." Chu Yang counted the number of demons carelessly, his tone filled with disdain. Sneering at Muzan, he said, "You spent so much blood just to create these pieces of trash?"
Chu Yang's arrogance and overpowering attitude repeatedly made Muzan recall a familiar sense of oppression. It was as if Yoriichi Tsugikuni was standing in front of him, speaking with the same tone.
"I'm no longer the Muzan from hundreds of years ago, and he is not Yoriichi Tsugikuni. I have no reason to fear."
Muzan clenched his fists, veins bulging, and his gaze grew colder. The humiliation left by Yoriichi hundreds of years ago—he would repay all of it on Chu Yang today.
The four demons hovering around Chu Yang sensed Muzan's intent, their faces contorting into ferocious expressions. They howled as they lunged toward Chu Yang, drool dripping from their mouths.
"It seems you enjoy having a brain ruled by primal instincts," Chu Yang taunted with amusement. "Is this your idea of evolution? I must say, your taste is quite..."
"Hmph!"
Before Chu Yang could finish his words, Muzan snorted coldly, and the four demons attacked him simultaneously.
Compared to any demon Chu Yang had encountered before, these temporary creations were even more grotesque and twisted.
They had lost their human shape and looked more like a mishmash of various animals. Blood-red fur covered their bodies, their limbs resembled apes, their heads like ravenous wolves, and wings sprouted from their backs. Spinal bones extended outward from their tails like barbed whips.
One of these bizarre tails lashed at Chu Yang like a venomous serpent.
Prepared through his keen senses, Chu Yang took a step back, blocking the attack from behind with his massive Zanbato before swiftly slashing a full circle around him.
His flame-wrapped blade accurately severed every barbed tail aimed at him. The fire then spread up along the wounds, burning the creatures, reducing their flesh to a charred mess. Their agonizing screams echoed as they writhed in pain.
The blazing flames flickering in the air made Muzan's eyes flash with fear. He knew this power well—the Sun Breathing, the very force that had terrified him the most in the past.
What gave him some relief, however, was that the monsters were not killed in one strike by Chu Yang and slowly stood up again.
At this point, Chu Yang also realized the characteristics of these creatures. Not only did they possess top-tier strength and speed, but they also had regeneration abilities similar to Muzan's.
Like Muzan, they had multiple hearts and brains, though less refined.
"If this is all your toys can do, it's a bit disappointing." Chu Yang stabbed his blade into the ground and grinned. "Friendly reminder, your time is running out."
Muzan took a deep breath, his face flushing, possibly from rage. He smiled grimly, "Of course, this isn't all. Enjoy yourself. Even Yoriichi Tsugikuni never received this treatment!"
Suddenly, the Infinity Castle shook violently, and many sealed rooms opened. From the darkness, countless more monsters emerged, barely visible.
Spreading his arms wide, Muzan laughed hysterically. "I've gathered a thousand years' worth of blood! Even if Yoriichi were resurrected today, he would die here!"
As he spoke, Muzan's body began to transform.
In an instant, crimson fur covered his entire body, and barbed whips emerged from his arms. He had transformed from a refined gentleman in a suit to a savage, bloodthirsty monster.
"From now on, there will be no more Demon Slayer Corps!"
With an unrestrained outpouring of emotion, Muzan charged at Chu Yang, leading the swarm of monsters like a black tide ready to drown the world.
Despite the seemingly reversed situation, Chu Yang remained calm and stood his ground, his hands crossed over the hilt of his Zanbato.
"Did you really think this was your home field?" Chu Yang said. Then, to Muzan's bewilderment, Chu Yang's fingers began to make strange, irregular movements.
It wasn't swordsmanship, nor was it a new breathing technique.
Though the gestures seemed meaningless, for some reason, Muzan felt a sudden unease in his heart.
Just as the monstrous tide was about to reach Chu Yang, the ground of the Infinity Castle cracked, and countless green trees shot up, flinging the monsters into the air.
In an instant, the eerie Infinity Castle transformed into a lush, vibrant forest.
Thick vines and roots coiled across the ground like giant pythons. Any monster attempting to approach Chu Yang was snatched up and strangled.
The entire forest seemed alive, silently guarding Chu Yang.
Muzan stood dumbfounded, staring at the drastic change before him, filled with deep doubt.
Where had his Infinity Castle gone?
Was he dreaming?
Warm blood flowed to his feet, snapping him out of his daze.
In front of him, piles of monster corpses had already begun to accumulate.
Looking up at Chu Yang, Muzan couldn't help but wonder.
"Is he still human? Or is he the real god?"
...
Outside the Infinity Castle, at the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters.
The once peaceful and serene headquarters had been consumed by fire, now turned into a battlefield drenched in blood and littered with severed limbs.
Fortunately, without Muzan's direct involvement and the deaths of Doma and Akaza, the Upper Moons struggled to gain the upper hand against the marked Hashiras.
Tengen Uzui, the second oldest of the Hashiras, faced Gyutaro and Daki, the sibling duo of Upper Moon Six.
Before awakening his mark, Tengen had struggled against the siblings, as proven in the original story. But now, after mastering the mark, the fight was entirely different.
With just one encounter, Daki was instantly killed by Tengen without even being able to retaliate. Gyutaro, too, stood no chance against the drastically enhanced Tengen.
Even the siblings working together could barely hold their ground against him.
Technically, Gyutaro was the true Upper Moon Six, while Daki's power was far inferior, making her the weak point that allowed Tengen to take them down.
Upper Moon Five, Gyokko, was handled by Obanai Iguro and Mitsuri Kanroji. Both sides were evenly matched, although Mitsuri, still young, displayed extraordinary strength, enhanced further by her mark, making her the main force in the fight.
Upper Moon Four, Hantengu, faced Sanemi Shinazugawa and Kanae Kocho.
For them, Hantengu was a particularly troublesome opponent. His ability to split into multiple clones rendered numerical advantages useless. As the number of clones increased, the two were momentarily overwhelmed, the only team on the battlefield facing such disadvantage.
On the other hand, Upper Moon One, Kokushibo, the second strongest after Muzan, was so powerful that three Hashiras were needed to match him.
Gyomei Himejima, Rengoku Kyojuro, and Giyu Tomioka teamed up to take on Kokushibo.
Even in this scenario, Kokushibo was able to fight them evenly, without losing ground.
This left Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who was observing from the rear, utterly shocked! He could hardly imagine how the battle would have unfolded if the Demon Slayer Corps hadn't unlocked their marks in advance.
Beside Ubuyashiki were former Water Hashira Sakonji Urokodaki and former Thunder Hashira Jigoro Kuwajima, providing protection. Behind them were medical personnel, including Shinobu Kocho and Makomo.
What they didn't know was that Muzan's servant, Nakime, who controlled the Infinity Castle with her spatial Blood Demon Art, originally had a mission to assassinate Ubuyashiki.
But with the shocking changes inside the Infinity Castle, Nakime had no choice but to return and help stabilize the castle's space for Muzan.
If Nakime had succeeded in her assassination, the blow to the Demon Slayer Corps' morale would have been devastating.
Luckily, that disaster was averted.
Once again, Chu Yang had unknowingly helped the Demon Slayer Corps avoid a crisis.
However, from a broader perspective, the Demon Slayer Corps was still on the losing side. Aside from the Upper Moons, the Lower Moons were leading large numbers of demons, slaughtering the swordsmen with overwhelming superiority.
Ubuyashiki grew more anxious by the moment. Before the battle, he had been confident they would win this war for humanity's survival. But since Chu Yang's disappearance, his confidence had been steadily eroding.
He realized now that victory had always depended on Chu Yang, just as he had foreseen in one of his visions.
"You two shouldn't be here guarding me. Go and stop the Lower Moons," Ubuyashiki turned to Urokodaki and Kuwajima. "You're the only ones who can save the swordsmen."
Sakonji Urokodaki hesitated. "But if something happens to you..."
Kagaya Ubuyashiki shook his head. "My life or death won't change the overall situation. I should've sent you into the battle from the start. It's not too late now; you can still save many lives."
Urokodaki and Kuwajima continued to hesitate, knowing that their master was deliberately saying this to save the swordsmen.
"Must I really commit suicide right here before you'll take action?" For the first time, Kagaya Ubuyashiki became angry at his subordinates. In his frustration, he bit his lip, and blood slowly trickled down the corner of his mouth.
Seeing this, the two no longer hesitated and disappeared from Kagaya Ubuyashiki's side, heading straight for the battlefield to join forces against the six Lower Moons.
The dire situation finally started to improve.
"Don't worry, Lord Ubuyashiki, I'm also a swordsman, and I will definitely protect you!" Shinobu Kocho said resolutely.
"So will I." Makomo's voice followed.
"Thank you both." Kagaya Ubuyashiki smiled and nodded, tightly holding his wife Amane's hand.
The couple silently prayed, hoping for a breakthrough that would allow more lives to be spared.
As if their prayers were answered, the entire Demon Slayer Corps camp suddenly shook violently.
In the pitch-black sky, a tear appeared, followed by an increasing number of black holes.
From deep within the darkness, countless trees began to emerge, as if trying to break free from the constraints of space.
This terrifying sight momentarily caused both sides to forget their battle.
Kokushibo, looking through one of the spatial rifts, caught a glimpse of the Infinity Castle. His entire body trembled as he exclaimed, "What is Nakime doing? Why is she summoning the Infinity Castle here? Could it be... that Lord Muzan has already won?"
Kokushibo's voice echoed across the battlefield, and after a brief silence, an overwhelming cheer erupted.
Daki, full of joy, couldn't resist taunting the battered Tengen Uzui. "What will you do now? Looks like you're about to lose. Once Lord Muzan arrives, everyone will die!"
Gyutaro licked his lips, staring coldly at Uzui.
Uzui said nothing, calculating silently. No matter the cost, he was determined to kill these two siblings.
Gyokko, hiding within a sturdy jar, mockingly taunted Obanai Iguro and Mitsuri Kanroji with nearly identical words.
Hantengu, however, didn't mock Kanae and the others. Instead, he reverted to his cowardly old man form, muttering in relief, "Thank goodness Lord Muzan is coming. Otherwise, I might really die here today."
He was the only Upper Moon who had the upper hand, but his words were all the more ironic.
Kokushibo remained silent, the pressure emanating from him suffocating.
Gyomei Himejima clasped his hands together, prepared to die alongside Kokushibo. If he could take down the strongest Upper Moon, the others would have a better chance against Muzan.
Rengoku Kyojuro shared a similar determination.
On the Demon Slayer side, everyone's faces were pale, with many on the verge of abandoning the will to live.
The terrifying scene above gradually calmed, and the entire space began to stabilize.
Had they really lost?
Kagaya Ubuyashiki stared intently at the cracks in the sky, blood vessels bulging in his eyes. This wasn't the future he foresaw!
He refused to believe it, and neither did Kanae.
"He will never lose!"
