Chapter 42: Chapter 42: The Gift

Chapter 42: The Gift

Both Harry and Chu Yang flew at high speeds while chasing the Golden Snitch. However, from Madam Hooch's perspective, although Chu Yang was just a body-length behind Harry, he flew with far greater ease.

Her eyes were filled with astonishment.

For a beginner to fly as well as Harry was already considered genius-level, but Chu Yang's displayed talent was even more remarkable.

Because he was flying while standing...

Flying a broomstick requires precise control. At high speeds, every movement you make on the broom can result in a significant change in direction.

Second is the ability to observe. The faster you fly, the blurrier your surroundings become. Excellent dynamic vision is required to observe both teammates and opponents.

But most important of all is mindset! Only those who remain calm and composed can make the right decisions during intense competition.

In all three of these aspects, Chu Yang was far ahead of Harry.

"If Harry Potter represents Gryffindor in the Quidditch matches, he will surely bring home the trophy for the house," Professor McGonagall couldn't help but say, her eyes fixed on Harry.

"Professor McGonagall, I mean no offense, but if Chu Yang participates in the Quidditch matches, he will undoubtedly outperform Mr. Potter," Madam Hooch lifted her head proudly. "In this field, I'm a professional."

Professor McGonagall was left speechless.

Madam Hooch wasn't just a referee for the Hogwarts Quidditch matches—she occasionally refereed official Quidditch games as well.

So when she claimed to be a professional, it wasn't just boasting.

Professor McGonagall muttered softly, "Headmaster Dumbledore shouldn't have placed Chu Yang in Slytherin. If he could join Gryffindor, he and Harry Potter could win us many consecutive Quidditch championships."

While Madam Hooch and Professor McGonagall were arguing, Harry, who was too focused on chasing the Golden Snitch, flew off the field and sped toward the Whomping Willow.

"Hey! Harry, you can't go that way, it's dangerous!"

Sensing something was wrong, Chu Yang immediately called out to stop Harry.

But Harry, being so focused on the Snitch, couldn't hear Chu Yang at all!

Seeing that Harry wasn't responding, Chu Yang had no choice but to follow him off the field.

Meanwhile, Professor McGonagall and Madam Hooch were still debating over who would perform better in a Quidditch match—Chu Yang or Harry.

Finally, Hermione, unable to bear it any longer, shouted, "Chu Yang and Harry are both gone, Professors! They flew toward the Whomping Willow!"

Professor McGonagall raised her head in surprise, and after confirming that the two students were no longer visible in the sky above the field, her face changed color. Grabbing the hem of her emerald-green robe, she hurriedly ran outside.

Madam Hooch did the same, though she appeared even more panicked. If anything happened to these two students during her class, she wouldn't be able to avoid responsibility.

The Whomping Willow was no gentle magical plant. Over the years at Hogwarts, many students had been injured by it, and the school had strictly prohibited students from approaching it.

No one could have imagined that Harry would fly so close to it in pursuit of the Golden Snitch.

Professor McGonagall and Madam Hooch led a frantic charge, followed by a large crowd of students. The scene was so chaotic it looked like Hogwarts was hosting some kind of athletic competition!

By the time Professor McGonagall arrived, Harry, Chu Yang, and the Golden Snitch were all flying around the Whomping Willow like flies, while the Whomping Willow, much like the persistent Monkey King in Journey to the West, was wildly swinging its branches, trying to swat these annoying "flies" to death!

The Whomping Willow, as tall as a three-story building, had branches thicker than an adult man's thigh.

As it thrashed about, the sound of its branches slicing through the air was enough to make one's head ache.

"Mr. Potter, Mr. Chu Yang, you must come down immediately! Stop chasing the Golden Snitch; it's too dangerous!" Professor McGonagall shouted anxiously, her face filled with worry. After all, Harry was her newly chosen Seeker.

"You're in great danger! Come down now!" Madam Hooch, her face pale, was holding her broom, wanting to fly up to help, but the Whomping Willow's branches were swinging too densely for her to get close.

"This isn't something I can control, Madam Hooch!" Harry replied fearfully as he dodged branches attacking him from all sides.

At this point, there was no sign of the Golden Snitch at all.

It had probably been smashed by the Whomping Willow!

The more Harry thought about it, the worse he felt. This wasn't the outcome he had wanted—he had simply wanted to catch that little flying ball.

Professor McGonagall suddenly remembered something and shouted, "The knot!! If you touch the knot on the Whomping Willow, it will immediately calm down!"

Hermione was on the verge of tears, "Professor, we can't even get close to the tree, let alone touch the knot!"

Professor McGonagall glanced at the now twenty-year-old Whomping Willow and sighed. If this went on any longer, she would have to use magic to burn the tree—she had to prioritize the students' safety.

As Professor McGonagall hesitated, Harry's speed began to slow down as both his magic and physical strength were nearly depleted. In the end, his broomstick was struck hard by one of the Whomping Willow's branches.

With a scream, Harry was flung into the air!

Witnessing this, Hermione covered her eyes and screamed, while Ron frantically shouted Harry's name.

The other students also instinctively covered their eyes in shock.

Both Professor McGonagall and Madam Hooch's hearts leapt into their throats!

At that moment, another figure in the air swooped around from the opposite direction and, at the last second, grabbed Harry by his clothes, saving him.

"Hold on tight!"

Harry looked up and saw that it was Chu Yang who had caught him. The latter smiled warmly at him, and Harry instantly felt relieved. Then, he noticed the golden ball in Chu Yang's hand.

"You caught it?!" Harry exclaimed, first in delight, then in slight disappointment. He was happy because Chu Yang was his friend and he was proud of him, but disappointed because he hadn't caught it himself.

"I'm giving it to you! Consider it a late birthday present," Chu Yang said, tossing the Golden Snitch to Harry with an encouraging smile. "You're going to be an excellent Seeker. When you win the championship, give me one just like it."

Holding the Golden Snitch, Harry's eyes seemed to sparkle.

The broomstick slowly descended to the grassy ground, where Professor McGonagall, Madam Hooch, and the students quickly gathered around.

"That was incredibly reckless! Mr. Chu Yang, Mr. Potter, you have no idea how serious this could have been!" Professor McGonagall scolded the two, though her eyes were noticeably gentle.

Relieved, Madam Hooch gazed intently at Chu Yang. She was certain that, with the skill he had just demonstrated, Chu Yang was more than capable of competing in official matches!

And Harry Potter had extraordinary potential as well.

Whichever one of them it was, they were destined to become Hogwarts' shining new star players!
