Chapter 33: Dumbledore's Invitation

Despite feeling a bit flustered, Professor McGonagall didn't forget to bring Chu Yang to the headmaster's office.

The two of them took the rotating staircase to the 8th floor, where they arrived at the end of a corridor. A large oak door stood there, with a knocker shaped like a griffin. Professor McGonagall stepped forward, lifted the knocker, and knocked on the door.

With a creak, the door opened, and Professor McGonagall led Chu Yang inside. The first thing he saw was a large wooden desk, adorned with snacks.

The room was spacious, filled with all sorts of strange silver instruments that looked like magical artifacts, though they could have just been decorations.

The wise old man, Albus Dumbledore, was standing by the window, seemingly deep in thought.

"Dumbledore, Chu Yang is here," Professor McGonagall reminded him.

"Thank you, Minerva. You may go ahead with your work!" Dumbledore smiled and nodded, then walked past the large wooden desk in the center of the room, making his way directly to Chu Yang.

"Before I go, there's something I need to tell you," Professor McGonagall quickly walked to Dumbledore's side, lowering her voice as she told him about the situation with Malfoy and the Black Lake.

A flash of surprise crossed Dumbledore's eyes as he murmured, "We'll need to wait for Malfoy to wake up before we can question him directly. Let's set aside the other accounts for now."

"I understand," Professor McGonagall nodded and left the headmaster's office.

"So, you're Chu Yang, right? Professor Sprout keeps mentioning your name to me so often that for a while, I thought I was living in the East," Dumbledore said with a smile, gesturing for Chu Yang to sit down and offering him a snack from the desk.

As Chu Yang took the snack from Dumbledore's hand, their eyes met, and Dumbledore experienced the same feeling he had when he first used the Sorting Hat on Chu Yang.

After three or four seconds, Dumbledore quickly closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Even he found it hard to bear the oppressive sensation that came through their shared gaze.

"No wonder the Sorting Hat reacted that way. It seems like you have something extraordinary hidden inside you, preventing others from prying into your thoughts."

Dumbledore marveled, "Because you're an orphan, we naturally assumed your parents were Muggles. But now, that assumption seems inaccurate."

"Your parents likely came from a famous wizarding family in an ancient Eastern country. Otherwise, it would be hard to explain what you possess."

Chu Yang shrugged and replied indifferently, "I don't know where they're from, but I am indeed an orphan."

"And, you mentioned someone trying to read my thoughts just now..." Chu Yang's gaze became sharp as he looked at Dumbledore. Anyone who had experienced Legilimency twice in one day would be upset.

"I sincerely apologize, Mr. Chu Yang. This is one of my few bad habits after so many years as headmaster. I tend to approach everything with caution, but in doing so, I sometimes overlook more important matters."

Dumbledore spoke gently, his eyes filled with genuine sincerity. "From your perspective, your anger is completely justified. But I hope you can forgive an old man like me."

Dumbledore was a very clever wizard, and one of his greatest strengths was his ability to win others over with kindness and sincerity.

Chu Yang understood this about him, but even so, the anger in his heart was quickly dissipating.

With a smile, Dumbledore said, "As compensation, I can agree to some reasonable requests, such as providing you with more financial aid."

"I love reading!" Chu Yang immediately responded, "Headmaster Dumbledore, if possible, I would like access to more areas of the library so that I can absorb more knowledge."

Chu Yang's request clearly wasn't what Dumbledore had expected. He had assumed that a child from an orphanage would prioritize financial assistance.

Dumbledore nodded approvingly. "As a wizard, that is indeed a wise choice. However, knowledge can also be dangerous at times, especially for someone your age who may not yet understand these risks."

"Moreover, you've just started at the school. There is still a great deal of basic knowledge you need to learn. To become a great wizard, you must take each step steadily."

"So, I will hold off on your request for now. When the time is right, I'll allow you to access more knowledge."

Chu Yang didn't argue further and calmly accepted Dumbledore's advice.

Dumbledore's refusal was expected. Chu Yang hadn't planned to achieve his goal all at once. Getting Dumbledore to make a promise was already a very good outcome.

As long as Chu Yang continued to demonstrate his extraordinary talent and slowly changed Dumbledore's mind, the magical knowledge hidden in the library would eventually be his.

Dumbledore was relieved to see Chu Yang's maturity, which far exceeded that of his peers.

If it had been another 11-year-old, they might have argued with him for a long time.

"Professor Sprout mentioned some unique qualities about you, and the Sorting Hat also seemed to have trouble deciding which house to place you in. So, do you have any thoughts on that?" Dumbledore asked, his demeanor as kind as a friendly neighbor, as he engaged in conversation with Chu Yang.

Chu Yang felt a sense of equality from Dumbledore's attitude, which made him feel closer to him. However, after thinking it over, Chu Yang shook his head.

Dumbledore adjusted his glasses and asked, "Child, could you show me your magic?"

He then pointed his finger in the air, and a burst of magic blossomed like fireworks from his fingertip.

Next, the wand on the desk flew into his hand.

Wandless magic!

Dumbledore handed the wand to Chu Yang with a smile. "This is a wand I had someone prepare for you in advance. Its materials are similar to your original wand."

"Of course, the core of this wand isn't as rare as the qilin scale in your original one. Instead, it contains a unicorn tail feather. Both are sacred magical creatures, so it shouldn't conflict with your magic."

Chu Yang took the wand from Dumbledore, wondering what would happen if Dumbledore had asked him to use the Elder Wand.

What kind of reaction would be triggered if his nature-based Wood Release magic clashed with the Elder Wand, made of elder wood and a Thestral tail hair core?

At the very least, the headmaster's office probably wouldn't survive it.

And those portraits of past headmasters on the walls would likely suffer total destruction.

Dumbledore had no idea about Chu Yang's wandering thoughts. Seeing him hesitate, he assumed Chu Yang was worried about the consequences. With a smile, he reassured him, "Don't worry, child. Whatever happens, I'll take responsibility. Relax, focus, and control your magic."

With the experience from last time, Chu Yang felt less awkward using the wand. Following Dumbledore's guidance, he slowly channeled his magic and gently waved the wand.
