Chapter 9: Chapter 9. The Invincible Princess?

Chapter 9. The Invincible Princess?

Ian couldn't believe what he was seeing.

Morgan was riding a white horse, still wearing the same attire she had worn in the palace, exuding majesty and dignity.

But what stood out most was that there were no knights following her, which is why Ian could spot her right away.

But this was not why she should be here.

Whether it was her identity as a Magus or her status as a princess, Morgan shouldn't be here.

This would expose her to unnecessary risks.

Unless —

Morgan must have had a reason for doing this.

[The most loyal knights often have the sharpest eyes.]

[You quickly realize that King Uther is not present in the enemy forces.]

[You understand Morgan's intention — to show her abilities in front of King Uther.]

[Though you don't understand why she's deliberately doing this, you know that you want to make all her wishes come true.]

[You are her most loyal knight, and her desire is also yours.]

[The troops under your command begin to retreat, while the soldiers led by Morgan advance with great momentum.]

[This princess, who is on her first campaign, has become famous among the people. She is hailed by the people of Britannia as the sharp sword capable of cutting through claws and dragon teeth, a natural enemy and an irreconcilable foe of yours.]

[But only you know that all of this is just the result of your deliberately mistaken orders.]

[You don't expect her to understand all of this; you only hope that it might help her.]

[The casualties in the army begin to rise, and some start to doubt you. Your previous unusual behavior has also been noticed and reported to Vortigern by those with hidden motives.]

[But Vortigern does not blame you; instead, he executes those who reported you for demoralizing the army.]

[He does not fault you for failure, only stating that the battlefield is often unpredictable, and victory or defeat is just a matter of time.]

[You realize that Vortigern is not the stubborn, reckless, and authoritarian king that the rumors in Britannia portrayed.]

[But you remain steadfast, knowing that your loyalty is solely to Morgan.]

[However, you often wonder, if you had met Vortigern earlier, would things have turned out differently?]

...

In the Britannia army camp, King Uther was listening to a report from a knight standing before him.

"Your Majesty, with your grace, the princess has won a series of victories and has now reclaimed more than half of the lost territory."

"The blood of your line will continue to shine in Britannia even in future generations."

However, when King Uther heard the knight's praise for Morgan, he did not show any joy. Instead, he appeared somewhat heavy-hearted.

As the king of Britannia, he seemed to have realized something.

He stood up and asked the knight a rather peculiar question.

"Has Morgan defeated the same army in these battles, right?"

"Yes, Your Majesty," the knight responded respectfully. "The Princess has defeated Vortigern's minions. Previously, no one could stop him."

"Her performance has been excellent, and Your Majesty's guidance has been extremely successful. We are certain to win."

King Uther turned away and closed his eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, there was a hint of disappointment. Morgan's victories did not seem to bring him joy.

"Send my orders. Have Morgan relinquish command of the army and be recalled from the front lines today."

"What? What?!"

The knight couldn't believe what he was hearing — the king before him was truly asking his own daughter, who had achieved great military success, to relinquish command?

Had the king become senile with age?

Though there was much doubt in his heart, the knight still maintained his respect for King Uther on the outside.

"Your Majesty, your decisions have always been correct and wise."

"But the princess has achieved great military feats. Isn't this a bit..."

King Uther turned around and looked at the knight, who was hesitant to speak.

He was no longer young.

But that didn't mean he was foolish.

"Knight, Morgan is my daughter. I understand her better than you do."

"Do not doubt me. Just do as I say."

"Yes!"

As the knight left, King Uther sighed.

To desire to be a king at the highest point without the qualities to support it — tragedy often arises from such thoughts.

But —

After all, she is still his daughter.

Even a wise king like Uther could not help but mix his own emotions into the matter.

....

[The situation began to feel a bit off.]

[You notice that the army under Morgan's command, which had initially been aggressive, is now gradually retreating, as if they had been defeated on the battlefield.]

[You realize that something might have happened that you don't know about.]

[You begin to investigate the secret.]

[This is not a secret that cannot be shared with others. Soon, you find out that Morgan has been ordered by King Uther to withdraw from the frontlines and will leave in a few days.]

[You don't understand why King Uther would do this—clearly, this was a great opportunity for Morgan to make a name for herself in Britannia.]

[You quickly realize that you can't just sit there and wait for death. You won't let Morgan's ambitions end here, even if the one who ends it is her father, King Uther.]

[You have a new plan—a plan that stakes your life on it.]

Under the moonlight, Ian walks through the military camp.

On his belt is the long sword that Morgan gave him when they left—she told him that he could only use it when he assassinated Vortigern.

And tonight is the moment.

Though he feels the timing isn't as ripe as he imagined and his actions aren't as secretive as they should be, Ian knows there is no time left.

If he doesn't kill Vortigern before Morgan is recalled from the frontlines, and then give all his accomplishments to Morgan, she will never be recognized.

That is certainly not something he wants to see.

As a loyal knight, he won't let Morgan's future go in a direction that contradicts her wishes.

[You have arrived at the tent where Vortigern usually rests.]

[Though you have been defeated by Morgan many times, no one is surprised by your current actions due to your past military achievements.]

[You grip the long sword at your waist, ready to deal Vortigern a lethal blow.]

[But things don't unfold as you imagined.]

[After lifting the curtain, you discover that there is no one inside.]

[At that moment, a figure appears behind you.]

A sigh echoes.

"Young man, you've finally chosen this path."

"I pity you."
