Chapter 48: The setup

-Triskelion Building-

Today, the leaders of SHIELD gathered from around the world, including political figures and heads of other agencies. They convened for a singular purpose: to address the issue of the Continental.

Hill ushered everyone into the conference room, indifferent to the group that had come to challenge SHIELD.

"Everyone, the conference will soon begin. Please remain silent until then."

Hill announced to the assembly, her expression stoic. Despite their irritation at her dismissive tone, the attendees collectively chose to withhold their anger, fixing their gazes on the vacant podium.

Shortly after, Fury, clad in a black trench coat, ascended to the podium.

"Now, let's review the situation concerning the Continental. Following my report, we will discuss strategies to counter this clandestine organization."

After Fury concluded his preliminary remarks, he began his formal address.

"Currently, the Continental is known to comprise approximately of 1,000,000 assassins, armed with an arsenal of countless weapons, including those of supernatural origin."

He stated, pausing momentarily to survey the room.

Fury resumed

"The organization has also mastered numerous advanced technologies. For instance, they've developed a handgun capable of penetrating 95 centimeters of reinforced titanium armor. This is the reason for your presence here today."

He spoke candidly, showing the video of Revy shooting the Iron Monger.

"Let me be clear: the Continental's power is formidable. Their current capabilities could potentially lead to global annihilation. I urge you to consider this carefully in the forthcoming deliberations."

He added.

"It's also important to note that the Continental has revealed several global bases, yet the threats I've outlined are merely from these locations."

After concluding his remarks, Fury proceeded.

"The next point is the purpose of the Continental."

"The Continental has established itself as a neutral sanctuary for all criminal activity, claiming to manage crime, a stance which we at SHIELD do not endorse and remain wary of."

"Considering the current circumstances, the Continental has detained a greater number of Enhanced humans than before, posing a potential threat to global stability, similar to the incidents involving Magneto."

"The aforementioned represent the rough strength and structure of the organization."

As Fury's voice subsided, a cacophony of discussions erupted in the expansive conference room. At that moment, the collective scrutiny turned to SHIELD.

"How has SHIELD failed to detect such a formidable organization for so many years?"

"This is a gross negligence of duty! What exactly has SHIELD been doing all this time?"

"Isn't SHIELD's specialty dealing with supernatural occurrences? Why are they only now aware of the Continental's existence?" "We must suppress such unlawful entities! Or assimilate them."

"Indeed! This is your obligation, SHIELD!"

Fury listened to the conference room's debates with an impassive demeanor, choosing not to interject. The meeting was futile. The outcome of controlling the Continental was never to be given to the hands of those present here, but rather that SHIELD gets full control over the Continental.

"Everyone! If we can't reach a consensus, then discuss it amongst yourselves. I'm off to report to the Council about the Continental situation."

Fury declared in a flat tone, recalling Leon's cryptic words after capturing him at Stark's mansion.

"The answer is simple, Fury. There's always a snake in the grass, from the highest to the lowest ranks. No matter how many times you cut off their heads, two more will spring up in their place."

With an expression that conveyed his view of everyone's ineffectiveness, Fury left the room.

He questioned their courage to confront the Continental, given that all departments represented were from a single country, America. With a cold snort, he departed, considering further discussion a waste of time.

Unbeknownst to Fury, over half of the conference's high-ranking officials were compromised by the Continental.

Hill, trailing behind, remarked indifferently.

"Director, I don't believe they're of any use."

"It appears we must offer one of our own as bait."

He sighed deeply, aware that they needed to incite the Continental. Fury's rhetoric stemmed from his success in persuading the Council to approve his Avengers initiative, leveraging threats from the Continental.

With Melinda May, a spy deeply embedded within the enemy ranks, Fury is assured of his ability to dismantle the Foundation in due time or alternatively, repurpose it for his own ends.

-A few days later, California, Uzumaki CORP-

Leon, unaware that he was a target, stumbled upon something quite amusing. He received a subpoena, specifically a court subpoena.

"What the Fuck is this?!"

Upon reviewing the document, Leon burst into laughter.

"Hahaha hahaha!

The subpoena accused him of being part of an illegal armed organization, possessing weapons of mass destruction illegally, and evading taxes.

It demanded he plead guilty and surrender all his weapons and technology or else face trial.

"What the hell is this?"

He exclaimed, turning to Temari in bewilderment. Handing her the subpoena, he awaited her interpretation.

"The IRS has teamed up with the military and the State Department"

Temari responded, her expression unchanging, prompting Leon to recall their earlier conversation about remaining in Roanapur.

"At least here we can live as warlords without government interference."

She had said.

Preempting any 'I told you so.' Leon, eager to confront the audacious sender, inquired.

"Has the person who issued the subpoena left?"

He was determined to meet the one bold enough to carry out such an act.

"Yes, he is dear! He's still in the reception area, waiting for a response."

"If that's the case, then bring him in. No, wait! I'll send one of my shadow clones disguised as an office worker. I'd like to size up the person who has the audacity to try and deceive me,"

Leon said with a chuckle.

Disguised, a shadow clone descended to the reception room and soon encountered a bald man with glasses.

Recognizing this character, Leon's mouth twitched. This man was Jasper Sitwell, a villain from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a deceitful agent within SHIELD but actually a member of HYDRA.

As Sitwell approached the disguised Leon, he bumped into a three-year-old girl playing near the reception.

"Efh, oh, I'm sorry, Mister!"

The little girl said.

To wich Sitwell kicked her aside.

"Stupid kid! You should be at home under your whore of a mother's watch!"

As she cried on the floor, he hurried away, leaving Leon, in shock, clenching his fists as he watched this scoundrel strike Himawari, his daughter.

Holding back his rage, he escorted Sitwell to his office.

Moments later, Hinata arrived to soothe her weeping child, with her kind soothing voice.

"What happened, Himawari? Are you crying because you got lost?"

"No mama...Hick! Hima ran into a mean, bold guy...Hick! Who kicked Hiiimmmmaaaaaa...AAAAAAHHHHHHHH! Even though Hima said she was sorry...AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!"

Regrettably, Hinata, at five months pregnant, struggled to control her emotions.

"Anbu!!!"

At her call, a dozen Anbu Black Ops appeared and promptly kneeled before her.

"Who dared, to touch my baby?!"

They informed her that the Lord's guest was responsible and had taken him to his office.

With a knowing smirk, Hinata walked towards Leon's office, her daughter asleep in her arms.

Sitwell entered Leon's office, greeting him with a smile.

"Hello, you must be Leon Uzumaki, President of Uzumaki Corp and head of the Continental. My condolences to your organizations in America; your contributions have been vital to our country."

Leon maintained a low profile, but after his clone dispersed, he was fully briefed on Sitwell's actions, which darkened his mood.

"So, you've come to take me to court as a sign of respect?!"

Sitwell caught off guard, smiled awkwardly before condemning the military without hesitation.

"The military is behind this, and I'm merely the messenger."

"What's your stance on all this Sitwell?"

Leon crossed his legs and asked casually.

"Our government is eager to collaborate with both of your organizations for the future of the USA. Provided the Continental is ready to cooperate, we will unconditionally fund solutions to your material challenges. Additionally, when the Continental undertakes tasks within the country, our agents will facilitate the process."

Leon raised his hand, signaling for a moment. He pulled out his phone and dialed.

Ring!

Ring!

Ring!

"Richard Ravencroft here, CIA Director. How may I assist you?"

"Mr. Ravencroft, Leon Uzumaki speaking. It appears you've compromised me and the Continental, haven't you?"

"Oh, you are aware, Mr. Leon, that it's preferable for our government to oversee your organization rather than allowing it to operate unchecked."

"Ah, I see, Mr. Ravencroft. That is precisely why you've been declared persona non grata by the Continental. Celebrate, for you now carry one of the highest bounties within the Continental, with your head valued at $1 million. Additionally, every other member of your organization now carries a bounty of one hundred thousand dollars."

"You have 48 hours to fix this Fuck-up Mister Ravencroft, or the bounties stay permanent. Oh, and if it wasn't clear, you're no longer an Elder and have lost all privileges. Next time you call me, better be to let me know you fixed this mess, 'cause I'm clean house."

With that Leon ended the call, leaving a fear-stricken Ravencroft on the other side of the phone, knowing that he Royally Fucked-up.

"Now for you, Sitwell. You're going to die today and not me because you're a secret HYDRA agent. No, going to die because-"

Knock!

Knock!

Knock!

"You can come in, Hinata; the door's open!"

As the door swung open, Sitwell was met by the sight of a beautiful pregnant woman walking in, carrying a toddler.

"You're going to die today because you hit my daughter."

Leon declared. It was at that moment Sitwell realized his grave mistake: he had struck the little girl on his way to Leon's office, unaware that she was his daughter.

"You can't kill me, as I am a civil servant of the US government. If you do, the United States government will take legal action against you."

Sitwell pleaded for his life.

"Sitwell, I've just threatened the head of the CIA. Do you think I care about you? The one who will make you meet your maker isn't me—it's her!"

As he turned around, Hinata struck his solar plexus with her Gentle Fist, immobilizing him and forcing him to his knees as he struggled to breathe.

"Owl!"

An Anbu Black Ops wearing an owl mask, along with others, appeared beside Sitwell.

"Take Hinata and this man into one of the secret rooms so she can deal with him. Temari and I will clean up this mess and head back to Roanapur."

"At once, my Lord! Lady Hinata, please follow me to one of the secret rooms. Don't worry about the body; the others will take care of him."

After Hinata and the Anbu Black Ops departed, Leon made another call.

"Fisk, a high-level position has opened up in the organization. Are you still interested?"
