She Is Not a Witch

4: The Butterfly Witch

Recalling the day’s experiences, the girl picked up the Legacy Jewel and slowly immersed her consciousness into it. Scenes from ancient times appeared in her mind.

Trina sat gracefully at a small round table. Through the nearby window, lush green forests could be seen. Most items in the room were wooden, creating a cozy cottage atmosphere.

“Greetings, my heir. This is the image I’ve left behind. I will detail all I’ve learned in my lifetime. I don’t know if this knowledge will be outdated after thousands of years, but if you can gain some unique insights and understanding from it, I’ll be very pleased.”

The witch’s image appeared in the girl’s mind, like watching an incredibly realistic movie.

And so, Loranhil lay on her side on the rock, holding the jewel, rapidly learning about this world’s knowledge before falling into a deep sleep.

Waking to the morning birdsong, Loranhil recalled what she had learned yesterday and was surprised to find that the volume of knowledge was far more than what could normally be heard in 8 hours, yet she could remember every word perfectly.

In fact, the human brain can think very quickly, as seen when you have a long dream but wake to find only ten minutes have passed. However, during normal activities, the brain is constrained by the body.

Simply put, it’s like:

Brain: I think I can catch that ball.

Hand: No, you can’t.

Actions are certainly not as fast as thoughts.

Picking a few fresh fruits and washing them clean by the stream became Loranhil’s breakfast.

Fearing that changes in language over the years might lead to misunderstandings, Trina first taught the writing system of the Second Era, including not only the common human language but also Elven, Beastmen, Eastern languages, and even some fragments of the Ogre common tongue.

The Second Era was the age of the Mercury Dynasty’s rule. Humanity united under a single banner, and the flag of wisteria-entwined new moon was planted across the world. Various measurements, writing systems, and institutions were unified. The dynasty’s Necromancy Academies were built in major cities, becoming a dream for young people everywhere to become supernatural Necromancy Sequences.

Countless skeletons were awakened from the dust for labor, greatly increasing people’s productivity. More resources were invested in education, and whether in military, culture, or art, unprecedented development was achieved in that era.

It was also with the establishment of the Mercury Dynasty that the dominance of this world gradually shifted from elves to humans, and humans became the undisputed rulers of the Ivar world.

After several days of explaining language knowledge, Trina finally began to introduce supernatural sequences in detail.

“All supernatural powers originate from a magical energy called Mana, and nature’s most primitive and direct use of Mana formed the Primal Sequence. Later sequences were all optimized and changed based on this foundation.”

“In ancient times, during the era ruled by giants and dragons, the War Sequence and Dragon Sequence were developed, used by these two powerful races. The deep seas also gave birth to their own unique Ocean Sequence.”

“Later, the elves emerged from the World Tree’s shelter, defeated the Giant Court, and became the overlords of the Western Continent. They brought their Nature Sequence to this world, announcing the beginning of the First Era.”

“In 6124 of the First Era, demons descended, and subsequently, the Demon Sequence was discovered. This was also related to humanity’s first rise and the establishment of the True Red Empire, but that’s a long story I’ll tell later.”

“In 8036 of the First Era, humans discovered the Necromancy Sequence, followed by the establishment of the Mercury Dynasty of the New Moon and Death.”

“Afterwards, the Mercury Dynasty went to war with the three great Elven nations, finally defeating the Silver Elves in 8385 of the First Era and declaring the start of the Second Era.”

“In 771 of the Second Era, scholars of the Mercury Dynasty jointly created the Mage Sequence, which received extensive support.”

“In 1023 of the Second Era, angels descended, and the Angel Sequence appeared before everyone.”

“When I was still alive, there were nine supernatural sequences in the world: Primal Sequence, War Sequence, Dragon Sequence, Ocean Sequence, Nature Sequence, Demon Sequence, Necromancy Sequence, Mage Sequence, and Angel Sequence. Perhaps new supernatural sequences will be created later, as the world keeps advancing.”

Trina continued to explain the different focuses and characteristics of the nine sequences, finally telling Loranhil that she understood the Necromancy Sequence and Mage Sequence most deeply. This was because she had been a powerful Necromancy Sequence user at the time and had directly participated in the dynasty’s development of the Mage Sequence.

Trina’s ultimate achievement was Necromancy Sequence 9: Psychopomp of the Underworld Butterfly, a legendary profession highly skilled in soul annihilation and umbral flames.

But perhaps due to understanding it too deeply, or perhaps out of occupational aversion, Trina advised Loranhil to be cautious in choosing to cultivate the Necromancy Sequence. It was a very sorrowful supernatural sequence that would expose one to too many dark aspects of the world, making it easy to become mired in them and walk a path of destruction.

Then came the Mage Sequence, jointly developed by Trina and several other witches in her later years. The part Trina led research on ultimately stabilized as Mage Sequence 7: Cataclysmic Lotus, a combat-oriented profession with terrifying destructive capabilities.

According to research records, after fully forming the supernatural core of Mage Sequence 7: Cataclysmic Lotus, one could achieve the feat of single-handedly destroying a city.

The unique spell granted by this profession, [Meteor of the Red Lotus], was capable of impacting and burning an area with a radius of ten kilometers into a glass-like state. It could completely annihilate both matter and souls. Other witches of the dynasty jokingly called it the Lotus-class Purifier.

In Trina’s narrative, she detailed the advancement path and specific cultivation methods from Mage Sequence 1: Tranquil Spark to Mage Sequence 7: Cataclysmic Lotus. There weren’t many records of other Mage Sequence professions’ cultivation and advancement, as several project teams were developing them at the time, and Trina was most familiar with her own area.

Moreover, as it was still in development, some supernatural sequences’ designs weren’t sufficiently sampled and far from stable. Trina didn’t dare to casually pass on other teams’ research to her student. She only briefly recorded a few advancement paths for Mage Sequence 3.

Apart from the more extensively recorded Necromancy Sequence and Mage Sequence, there was also the Nature Sequence. This was because the Mercury Dynasty had been at war with the three great Elven kingdoms for many years, so the enemy’s supernatural sequence was particularly studied and targeted.

The Nature Sequence was also called the Elven Sequence, as it was originally developed by elves. However, as elves expanded, it was no longer limited to elves; some magical beasts and other races also cultivated this supernatural sequence. Even by the end of the First Era, many humans had become high-level Elven Sequence users, so it was later simply renamed the Nature Sequence.

Loranhil was particularly interested in one of these: Nature Sequence 2: Tree Artisan. This profession advanced from Nature Sequence 1: Verdant Gardener. Unlike other combat professions, this supernatural sequence was very skilled in cultivation and production.

If she could advance to this supernatural profession, she wouldn’t have to worry about food, the girl thought. Unfortunately, the Tree Artisan advancement path was only recorded up to Sequence 2, with no information on further advancements.

Even so, judging from the moss-covered stone tablet, many years must have passed. Perhaps there were advanced practitioners of this path in the world now, and she could ask them for guidance when the time came, Loranhil thought, relaxing her mindset.

All supernatural sequences had some combat power, but what she needed more now was a long-term survival environment. Improving basic productivity was most important.

Recalling her past life playing games, Loranhil was the type of player who liked to stay home farming for years, then emerge to overwhelm enemies with technology and military might. In the “Civilization” series, she always pushed for a late-game tank and aircraft carrier sweep, or simply aimed for a science or culture victory.

In “Stellaris,” she most enjoyed giving everyone in the country cybernetic implants, ascending to machine consciousness, colonizing every planet, building Ring Worlds and Dyson Spheres, and finally sweeping across the galaxy with Arc Emitter Battleships. Even heaven would bow at her feet. (And of course, the race beautification mod was a must—beautiful girls were just too great)

So, farming was the true path. With a material and economic foundation, she could better build this world.

Finally, Trina mentioned her identity as a witch. Witches were neither a supernatural profession nor an official position, but rather referred to girls born with certain talents. They were called girls because witches basically didn’t age, maintaining their youthful appearance until death.

Trina was known as the Butterfly Witch, quite famous in history. Although, ironically, she was afraid of insects.

As for the note under the velvet in the box, after learning the language, Loranhil finally understood its meaning:

[Witches are drawn to each other. If you can see this note, it means you are very likely a witch yourself.]
