30: A New Year
Eastern Continent, Golden Oriole Dynasty, Luo Capital.
A towering mountain peak stood on the earth, its top as if sliced flat by a knife, perfectly level, with magnificent palaces built upon it.
Inside the palace gates, the sound of wind chimes drifted, making one feel as if they had entered a celestial realm.
This was the most noble place in the Golden Oriole Dynasty. On the upturned eaves of the palace, each corner was adorned with an exquisitely crafted copper peacock, wings spread as if about to take flight, lifelike in appearance.
Under the eaves hung rows of copper wind chimes, or perhaps they should be called ‘wind bells’. These copper wind bell plates collided with each other in the gentle breeze, producing a crisp and pleasant sound.
Inside the palace, carved railings and jade steps, black pillars, red-lacquered banisters, and winding corridors connected the various palaces large and small.
In the long corridors, every few meters there was a horizontal beam. Looking up at these beams, one could see meticulously painted colorful grass, trees, character stories, and scenic stones. Thousands of paintings, no two alike.
A gentle breeze occasionally blew in from the sea of clouds, passing through these majestic palaces, bringing a comfortable sensation that refreshed the spirit.
Passing through a long corridor to the front of Yuzhang Mountain, a high platform stood on the mountainside. On either side of the platform were giant copper immortals, holding jade plates in their hands, facing east.
The fiery sun gradually rose from the sea of clouds, shining on the roof tiles of this palace. The sunlight refracted through the cyan glazed tiles, casting a rainbow of colors.
One by one, white-robed palace maids carrying various rare and colorful objects walked in small steps, coming to this platform to arrange tables and chairs and set up scenery.
Then came several more female officials who, after repeated checks, led the palace maids quietly away, leaving only two high-ranking female officials waiting on both sides.
In the afternoon, a woman dressed in golden robes ascended this platform, followed by eight attendant maids.
She looked around, nodded slightly, then gestured for the others to withdraw.
After a while, only she remained on the platform. She sat before a jade guqin and began to play gently, the long notes resonating through the palace.
A black dot appeared in the sea of clouds in the sky. As it drew closer, it became clear that it was a carriage, with two black unicorns galloping rapidly through the air.
With a neigh from the unicorns, the carriage slowly stopped at the edge of the platform. A silver-haired, golden-eyed girl stepped down from the carriage, holding up her skirt.
“Long time no see, Suqin.”
Daytis, wearing a black lace dress, smiled slightly and took a gift box from the carriage, handing it to the black-haired woman in robes before her.
“This is a flute from Sister Hades for you, along with the latest style of dress from the Verdant Empire. Such high-grade moonlight fabric is quite rare.”
“Thank you, you two are too kind sometimes.” The black-haired woman playing the guqin smiled as she accepted, then invited Daytis to sit beside her.
They were long-time friends, so they didn’t bother with too many formalities and began chatting casually.
“How is Sister Hades?”
“Still the same as always. Sister Hades still refuses to change her sequence. I occasionally go to the Island of Eternal Darkness to keep her company and prevent her from getting too lonely.”
“Since she has her own insistence, we shouldn’t keep trying to persuade her. I’ll go see her when I have time too.”
“Really? You’re so busy, can you actually find the time?” Daytis didn’t believe it.
“Don’t say that. I’ve raised several batches of little ones, and they’re gradually able to share my burdens now.”
“You always say that, but in the end, you still can’t let go. Just like those worried old mothers, always afraid their children might fall into a ditch, needing to watch them constantly.”
“Over time, this is actually harmful to both parties.”
“It won’t be like that. I won’t interfere with their choices.”
“Still hard to believe.” Daytis leaned back, resting on the black-haired woman’s knees, picking up grapes from the side and tossing them into her mouth one by one.
“By the way, Daytis.”
“Hmm?”
“What happened on your side a few years ago? I saw that spectacle in the sky too, you know.”
“Oh, that. That was a cute junior.”
Daytis recalled the quiet and serious girl she had met in the forest a few years ago and began to speak.
“She inherited Sister Trina’s knowledge and caused that phenomenon when she awakened.”
“Trina… what a nostalgic name.”
“Yes, I was a bit surprised too. I didn’t expect Trina’s successor to actually be a witch as well.”
“How is she now? Weren’t you most fond of Sister Trina? I’m surprised you didn’t bring her to meet us.”
“She’s living alone in the forest now, saying she doesn’t want to get involved in the witch world for the time being. She wants to be herself.”
“Haha, I didn’t expect you to be rejected too. Should I say, as expected of Trina’s student? She’s so similar to her, always so independent and stubborn… and gentle.”
“Ugh… can’t be helped. After all, she’s Sister Trina’s student, the inheritor of all her legacy. I can’t possibly be harsh with Sister’s student, so I can only respect her choice.”
“Mm, but you don’t need to rush. She’ll eventually come out of the forest one day. She’ll also face some difficulties in life sooner or later. You can help her then and improve her impression of you.”
“After all, we will live for a very long time. In the end, all we have left is each other.”
“Yes, since Sister Trina left, so many years have passed without us realizing. There are only a few of us left who are still alive and in contact.”
Daytis recalled that now distant era.
“At that time, within the Mercury Dynasty, the popularity of the Magic Sequence, ideological differences, the outbreak of anti-war sentiment, and most importantly, in the dynasty’s final years, the Necromancy Sequence began to decline.”
“Finally, under internal and external troubles, the Mercury Dynasty disintegrated. That once glorious era disappeared, and it also marked the end of the Second Era.”
“After the disintegration, the Necromancy Sequence supernatural beings were all dealt with one by one. They either had to dismantle themselves and switch to other sequences or go to the Island of Eternal Darkness, never to leave.”
“The Necromancy Sequence, once a brilliantly shining supernatural sequence, became synonymous with evil. Even thousands of years later, when the continental upper echelons no longer suppressed it, very few people practiced it.”

In the Tisilan Mountain Range, Maple Leaf Courtyard.
The glow of the setting sun poured over this crimson world, coating the leaves, flowers, and small cabin with a faint golden hue.
Occasionally, some weeds poked their heads out from the cabin’s steps, a few small flowers emerged from the round roof, and the stone steps in front were covered with moss. The owner of this small cabin hadn’t come out for a long time.
In the closed bedroom, the windows were shut, with only threads of light penetrating through the cracks, slanting into the room. Tiny dust particles danced in the air.
On the reddish-brown maple wood bed, a silver-haired girl slept quietly, her waterfall-like hair scattered over the pillow and blanket.
The entire small bed was encased in a transparent red crystal, as if time had been suspended in amber.
It had been a long time since Loranhil fell asleep. Outside the window, time had imperceptibly passed through seven springs, summers, autumns, and winters.
Some children had slowly grown up, beginning to step into the ranks of adults, while some elderly had gradually faded away, finally resting in eternal sleep underground.
Now it was a new year again. The flowers outside the window had bloomed, and the girl gradually opened her eyes.
