She Is Not a Witch

18: The Silver-Ringed Giant Snake

The Tisilan Mountains were home to many magical beasts, and a large snake had appeared near the rabbit-eared tribe’s village in search of food. This supernatural giant snake was 7-8 meters thick, with alternating white and black rings on its body. Recently, many rabbits had been devoured by this snake.

Based on observations over the past two days, the snake’s activity traces were getting closer to the village. It was only a matter of time before it found the village.

However, the crops near the village weren’t ready for harvest yet. Abandoning and leaving would mean a large amount of food couldn’t be harvested, which would cause many rabbits to starve to death in winter.

Foreseeing this situation, the people of the rabbit-eared village decided to fortify the village, gather all their strength, defend and counterattack in an attempt to kill this giant snake.

The old village chief didn’t have high hopes for this operation, but there was no other choice. He could only organize the whole village to take this risk.

Loranhil, on the opposite hill, naturally sensed the giant snake nearby. It was a Sequence 4 magical beast, which would be difficult for her to defeat, though she could protect herself.

She was curious about how these rabbits would deal with it. From her observations, the strongest in the village was only the black-eared rabbit, who was a Primal Sequence 2 · White Fang Warrior. The others only had two Primal Sequence 1 · Grain Cultivators, who couldn’t even be considered warriors.

In the Ivar history Loranhil had learned, since the fall of the beast-folk’s Wild Fang Empire at the end of the First Era, various tribes had scattered. Most were exterminated by humans, with only a small number surviving to be driven to the ancient Gufia grasslands in the northwest, the beast-folk’s last refuge. Traces of them were rarely seen elsewhere.

Humans had deep enmity with the beast-folk back then, which was why the retaliation was so severe later. It wasn’t until more than 500 years after the Mercury Dynasty’s founding that this encirclement of beast-folk gradually ceased, of course because they could no longer pose a threat to humans.

Outside the village, the forest was sparse. A black snake with white rings slithered through the woods, its forked tongue flicking. Its massive body continuously flattened low shrubs, leaving furrows on the ground.

It was afternoon, and the crawling sound from the forest was quickly detected by several sharp-eared rabbits. They didn’t dare linger and quickly ran back to the village to report the situation.

“It’s here, Village Chief, Brother Kanda, that snake is coming!” a young boy shouted as he ran into the village. The surrounding rabbits began to tense up, hastening their work.

“Haren, Gide, quickly close the main gate. Everyone else, grab bows, arrows, and spears and follow me to the high platform at the village entrance,” Kanda commanded loudly. For a moment, everyone stabilized and took their positions as instructed.

About thirty young and middle-aged rabbits climbed onto the wooden wall and high platform at the village entrance, watching the nearby forest intently.

Soon, a snake’s head emerged from the forest. Sensing the rabbits, it raised its head high, staring at these small rabbits.

Loranhil checked the snake’s information.

[Poison Mist Spray] (Rare): Vaporizes venom for spraying, harder to block, corrosive, very dangerous.

[Snake Eyes] (Excellent): Huge snake eyes, intimidates other creatures’ souls, weaker souls will be stunned and unable to resist.

[Wind Wings] (Flawed): Can manipulate air currents to form wings for flight or attack, not yet fully mastered, this ability is still developing.

Skills: [Tail Whip] (Normal): Uses tail to sweep and strike, very powerful.

“These skills and abilities are quite good,” Loranhil marveled.

Black Scales and White Rings provided good protection and recovery ability. Snake Eyes interfered with and controlled enemies, then used poison to wear them down. Especially the vaporized venom, which compensated for the singular attack method when unable to bite. If the Wind Wings ability fully developed, it could use air currents to spread poison mist more conveniently, greatly increasing its danger.

Once the opponent was poisoned and paralyzed, they would be at the snake’s mercy. If necessary, it could deliver another dose of venom, leaving the enemy beyond salvation.

As the giant snake approached, the rabbits on the wooden wall began attacking with bows and arrows. Unfortunately, the effect was poor, falling on the scales like mere tickles, unable to penetrate.

Kanda gripped his spear, shouted loudly, then threw it.

The rapidly flying spear whistled through the air, striking the snake’s body and lifting many black scales before sliding off and falling to the ground nearby.

“Damn!” The strong youth picked up another spear and threw it at the snake’s head, but this time the giant snake easily dodged. Then its huge head immediately crashed into the wooden tower, smashing it apart. The rabbits on top shouted in panic as they fled the tower. One had his leg injured and could only limp away. Seeing this, his companions disregarded the danger to return and help him leave.

The giant snake extended its head over the wooden wall, biting a rabbit and preparing to swallow it. Seeing this, the other rabbits on the wall hurriedly attacked with their weapons. The snake, covered in scales, didn’t care much about these attacks, but when one rabbit tried to stab its eye with a spear, it had to dodge.

At this moment, Kanda also grabbed a weapon and rushed over, stabbing an iron spear into the snake’s mouth. The giant snake, in pain, opened its mouth, allowing the rabbit in its jaws to be rescued by its companions.

After its mouth was injured, the snake finally got serious. It opened its dark golden snake eyes wide, staring at the rabbits present.

The rabbits were instantly intimidated, shaking all over and feeling powerless. A great fear spread in their minds. Only the black-eared rabbit could still pick up a spear and continue throwing.

The giant snake used its tail to knock down the village’s fence, its massive body crushing the wooden wall. Then it opened its venomous fangs, spraying a white mist at the rabbits inside the village.

Some mushroom house roofs were immediately corroded upon contact with the mist, making a sizzling sound. Several rabbits at the front fell unconscious.

This is bad!

Kanda threw his iron spear at the snake’s mouth, trying to interrupt its poison attack. However, the giant snake raised its head high, immediately using its body scales to block the attack. The iron spear lifted a series of scales on the snake’s belly before losing momentum.

By now, Kanda had no suitable weapons left. Watching the gradually approaching poison mist, he could only close his eyes in despair, waiting for death.
