Shadow Slave: The Holy Emperor

Chapter 7: The Awakened Academy

One of the teachers gave Keter a tour around the academy, and he eventually found his way to his room. "Damn, that tour must have taken a while," Keter says after seeing all of his stuff piled up against the wall. "I might as well get to sorting. The initiation is in three days, so it's not like I have anything better to do."

--A few hours later--

Keter wipes his forehead with the back of his hand."Finally, dang, that took longer than I thought it would." Keter hears his communicator buzzing. He walks over to see who is calling. "Oh, it's Morgan." Keter accepts the call and puts it on speaker. "Hey Morgan ho-"

"Why didn't you call me earlier?" Keter could hear Morgan's judging voice through the phone.

"I was a little preoccupied with moving to the academy, and how did you even know I was awake?" Keter explained himself.

"I told them to warn me when you woke up," Morgan explains, easily accepting his explanation. "What classes are you going to choose, or will you push off choosing until the last hour like normal?"

"Isn't that illegal? And I'm taking Wilderness Survival and Rune Language. Do you know if there is some acting class?" Keter says.

"Like I care. Yes, there are two: Composure and Consoling Body Language." Morgan answers.

"Then I will be taking those two as well," Keter says.

"How was your First Nightmare? Since you are my best friend, you must have slaughtered at least a dormant demon." Morgan says with pride, absolutely believing her friend could do nothing but great in the First Nightmare.

"I didn't kill anything myself. I got someone else to do it for me, but I did a good enough job to get a True Name." Keter says with a matter-of-fact tone.

"A True Name? Just what the hell did you do? And what is it?" Morgan says, extremely surprised.

"I got a Master killed. My True Name is Holy Emperor." Keter says with a small bit of amusement in his voice as his eyes stray to the side.

"Got a Master killed?! Don't talk like that's normal, you bastard!" Morgan basically screams into the phone. (I am just going to call it a phone)

"Hey, Morgan, can you come to the academy and teach me Swordsmanship?" Keter asks, trying to change the subject.

Morgan clicks her tongue and says, "Don't think I don't know what you're trying to do and teach you? Even if you are my best friend, I'm preparing for my Second Nightmare. I can't just go and teach you." Morgan explains.

"What if I pay for your Sherbet addiction while you teach me so your uncle doesn't find out?" Keter offers.

Morgan goes silent momentarily and then says, "You got a deal. Be ready in an hour."

"Wait an hour? Isn't that too little time?" Keter says in shock. but then notices that Morgan has already hung up the phone. Keter puts his phone down then takes a deep breathe and says. "Lets hope I didn't just sell my self to the devil."
