Shadow Slave - One Shots

Chapter 57: Intertwined Strings Never Falter

The sun was that was once shining with vitality had lost it's health.

If one could notice, tbere was a gentle breeze that carried the scent of love.

(i cringed writing that icl)

Sunny and Cassie sat side by side, their shoulders just barely brushing against each other.

Cassie tilted her head slightly, feeling the sun's warmth on her skin.

She couldn't see it descend beyond the horizon, but she could feel it.

Sunny, on the other hand, had his gaze fixed on the horizon, watching the last light dip beneath the waves.

On this day, it felt as if the sun shone on them specifically.

They had spent the day lost in laughter and competition, their time at the arcade stretching into the evening.

And of course, suffering the punishment of having to carry Cassie like a baby.

(forogt to write the bit that he picked him up like a sack of potatoes that doesn't make sense whatever)

After returning home, they had shared a simple meal, talking about anything and everything.

Whether it was small moments of the past, or about the future.

Now, in the quiet serenity of the terrace, lay 2 who are in love but have to face with the worlds consequences.

(get it? serenity of stolen bites)

Cassie exhaled slowly, then turned her head toward him.

"Sunny..." her voice was soft, contemplative.

"Thank you. For being with me."

Sunny blinked, turning to face her. "What kind of nonsense is that? Where else would I be?"

She smiled at that, but there was a heaviness in the way she exhaled.

"You don't understand. You never did."

Sunny arched an eyebrow.

"Oh? Then explain it to me."

She hesitated for a moment, her fingers tightening around the fabric of her shirt before she relaxed.

"When I awakened my aspect... I saw my future. Or at least, I thought I did."

A silence stretched between them.

"Back then, when I first gained my visions, I thought they were absolute. The threads of fate stretched endlessly before me, weaving a tapestry I could never change. I saw myself walking a path that had already been laid out for me, bound by the destiny that the world had written in advance."

She paused.

"I was alone, in that future. It was said that no matter what I did, I'd end up alone."

She swallowed hard, shaking her head.

"I thought that was all there was. That I was just a passenger in my own life, watching it unfold before me with no power to change it."

(wow cassie so philosophical 🧐)

She turned her face toward him, though her unseeing eyes remained unfocused.

"But then I saw you. I saw you, and the strings of fate shifted. Something changed. I didn't understand it at first. You weren't supposed to be there, yet there you were. I… still don't understand what had happened. It's like someone had personally altered the timeline.

You weren't supposed to exist in my story, but you did. And because of you, I realized that maybe... maybe fate wasn't as absolute as I once because."

Sunny's throat tightened.

Cassie smiled, reaching out and finding his hand, her fingers curling around his. "Someone out there, whether evil or nice changed our fate. To make us together."

Sunny exhaled sharply through his nose, squeezing her hand in return. "And yet, you're the one who gave up my freedom."

He muttered, before squeezing her nose tightly.

Cassie flinched back releasing a quiet yelp, moving his hand away from her nose.

She huffed, puffing her cheeks slightly.

"Meanie."

Sunny smirked.

Enjoying her reaction, he reached for her nose and did it again. "I'm still mad about that, by the way."

Cassie swatted at his hand, her pout deepening. "You big bully."

Sunny chuckled, letting her go. "You deserved that."

Cassie crossed her arms, feigning irritation.

"And here I was, trying to have a heartfelt moment with you."

Sunny leaned back slightly, watching her with something softer in his eyes.

"Heartfelt moments are overrated. But..." He hesitated, then spoke more earnestly.

"I am glad that the person who changed our fates made us entertwined. Or entangled, whatever the word is."

She tilted her head. "Even after everything?"

"Even after everything." His voice was steady.

"No matter what you did. No matter what you do. I'll still love you."

Cassie's breath hitched.

She wasn't sure what she had been expecting him to say, except for more hatred.

She still thinks she deserved it, after all.

Her lips parted, but before she could say anything, He shifted closer.

The last remnants of sunlight had felt like the glow on them had gotten stronger as if to highlight the moment.

He gently cupping her cheek.

"No matter what, Cassie."

His voice was barely above a whisper. "I'll love you."

She felt her heart flutter, warmth flooding her chest.

Her fingers curled into the fabric of his sleeve as she leaned forward, closing the distance between them, praying she didn't miss his face.

Their lips met just as the sun touched the horizon, melting into the embrace of the night.

There was only one word you could explain this situation.

Beautiful.

The steady beat of her heart against his, the warmth of his touch, the words that lead into the softness of their kiss.

It was beautiful.

As they pulled apart, Cassie lingered, resting her forehead against his. "You better not take that back."

Sunny smirked, brushing his thumb lightly against her cheek. "I never go back on my word."

She smiled, feeling the steady rise and fall of his breath. "Good. Because I'm not letting you go."

Sunny chuckled. "I don't plan on going anywhere."

The stars began to twinkle above them, the last traces of daylight disappearing beyond the horizon.

He turned his direction to the skies, the stars beautifully sparkling.

And as if thanking someone, he smiled at the stars, truly thankful for his life.

(the end.. check author notes.)
