Chapter 27: Settlement conference
"I appreciate your concern," Harvey said, forcing a smile. "However, my client has suffered considerable financial losses due to the incident. We need to discuss compensation that reflects that."
Elara leaned forward, her expression earnest. "We are willing to negotiate, but I must emphasise that this is an unfortunate incident. Our clan does not condone such behaviour, and I assure you that steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence."
"We need details about the Awakened involved in the incident and how the clan plans to address the damage done. Transparency will be key for us to reach a settlement." Harvey spoke.
"Of course," Elara replied, her tone almost too sweet. "But I must also remind you that our clan has a significant standing in this city. We are not just any family; our connections run deep, and we value our reputation highly. We would highly appreciate it if this matter was let go with minimal compensation."
Harvey spoke, trying not to laugh, "This is about accountability. Your clan needs to recognize the consequences of their member's actions. My client deserves justice, just as your clan deserves a chance to make amends."
As the conversation continued, Harvey fought against the mental fog that Elara seemed to cast over the room. He focused on the details of the case, drawing on Cassie's insights to strengthen his position.
With each exchange, he noticed subtle shifts in Elara's demeanour. She was assessing him, perhaps trying to gauge how far she could push before he faltered.
"Let's schedule another meeting," he proposed, his voice steady. "I want to ensure that my client is adequately compensated while also allowing the Emberwing Clan to present their side."
"I will also be scheduling a deposition with the head of your Clan, Master Emz." Harvey spoke in a confident voice.
The atmosphere in the room became dark as a threatening expression made its way onto the man. "Masters of Legacy clans are extremely busy people. If they had to respond to every small claim as such we would not be able to perform our duties in combating the nightmare."
"Well, who else is responsible for the negligence of their clan members?" Harvey retorted.
"Mr Spector." Elara spoke out, "If you wish to contact Master Emz, you would have to get a judge to approve of the deposition being set and make your case."
"Sobeit." Harvey spoke, without caring too much,
As the meeting proceeded, the tone began to shift subtly. Elara leaned back in her chair, her expression turning more serious. "I do hope you understand the importance of discretion in these matters, Mr. Harvey," she said, her voice smooth but laced with an unspoken threat.
"There are many interests at stake. We wouldn't want any... accidents to happen, especially to those close to you."
"What do you mean by that?" he asked, maintaining his composure. He has already gotten threatened by the clan but up until now it was more discrete.
"Oh, nothing overt," the tall man interjected, his tone deceptively calm. "But we all know how easily misunderstandings can escalate in our world, particularly when powerful families are involved. It would be a shame if something unfortunate were to befall a member of your family."
"My family is not part of this situation. "
Elara's smile remained, but it was cold, devoid of warmth. "Consider it a friendly reminder, Mr. Harvey. We are all connected, and we would hate to see you lose focus on the matter at hand. After all, it's best for everyone if we approach this matter with the utmost care."
Harvey locked eyes with her. "If you think you are the first opposing party of mine to threaten me, you are sorely mistaken. I am not scared of you simply because you are part of a legacy clan."
"Well, you should be." Elara said as she stood up and left the room.
As he heard that, Harvey had made his decision on the proposition provided by 'The World,' last time.
…
(Klein)
As he was about to enter the cathedral, Klein saw a familiar face immediately approach him.
It was the young man who had been deemed by divination that was about to enter the Nightmare Spell.
"Great Seer!" The Young man called out to him, as Klein discretely activated his spirit vision.
Klein nodded to him, and flashed him a calm smile.
"I wished to thank you, due to your previous warning I was able to mentally prepare myself and get ready for my nightmare. Here, this is for compensation." The young man said as he raised his hand and something appeared in a flash of light.
A Memory!
His Spirit Vision went slightly haywire, as he saw tons of weaves of strings being attached to the wire.
All the weaves were similar to the one the young man used to have on him,
But now, even that string was not there.
Or maybe…it was disguised to the point where his vision as a sequence 9 seer was unable to see it.
"This may not be a lot for someone like you…who probably is an Awakened." He whispered the last part.
It seems like this young man had assumed his identity as an Awakened who is hiding his identity.
Klein didn't feel like correcting him for now, and simply nodded.
After memorising the weaves of the memory, he decided to follow the acting principals of a seer.
"This was a free trial for my services. I do not charge more than needed." Klein mentioned with a light smile.
"Well then…if possible, could I recommend some friends instead? How much do you charge?" The young man questioned.
Klein thought about it for a moment before saying, "15 credits."
"So cheap!"
The second the young man said this, Klein couldn't help but feel his wallet bleed…did he misjudge something here?
Was he destined to be poor here too?

Unfortunately this isn't a continuation of the fanfic. I simply had a couple of spare chapters I wanted to upload.
I am currently trying a new project, which is basically my own novel but I will be uploading it as a fanfic since honestly I write mainly for interaction with people.
I write to share ideas and run through scenarios with people, so I hope you will try my new project out.
It is called "Eternal Heir."
Do not subscribe to patreon for this fanfic anymore thanks.
