Chapter 32: System upgrades to level two
Gorn resumed his hunting session. Whatever happened to him before was a mystery. The way he acted at that time was not to his liking.
‘I must not panic no matter what happens. Fear and panic should be discarded as fast as possible in any situation,’ thought Gorn while throwing a blue fireball at a nearby den of spiders.
He wanted to become a better version of himself, not a coward or a person that gives up during harsh times. It took him some time to cement this way of thinking deep down his brain. Being able to overcome some difficulties was no easy feat, but no matter what happened, despair was out of the question.
With each passing day, the overall situation settled down. The city returned to a more quiet state. The majority of the people conformed with the new changes. At least, openly. The options available to them were rather bad.
Those who were weaker could not survive outside the city, while those with a decent power level either had families, either chose to remain for whatever reason. Those with a power level above three hundred formed groups and went to hunt monsters for their cores. The rest were responsible for handling those cores and various other resource in different ways.
Some types of jobs, however, remained the same. The reason for that was simple. No matter the power or the regime, everyone needed someone to clean, someone to cook, and so on. The big difference now was that people could not own almost anything, nor had they any free time except the minimum required.
Their lives were now ordered by someone else, a large portion of their freedom being non-existent at the present. It was miserable beyond words. Despite that, hope was still strong among many. Like how Norman suddenly came with his people, then one day, it was definitely possible for his place to be taken by someone else; hopefully, a better person.
Elisa with her group also settled down, no more incidents happening. The situation was, nonetheless, still pretty awkward.

Approximately a month was already over. For some, this period of time was pure nightmare, while for others it was decent, or even better than before. Even though it would have been moderately easy to catch all the people that left the city, and were now living in the proximity, Norman did not do it.
Various groups formed in different places. Here, there were no guards nor any kind of law or bottom lines. The stronger individuals did whatever they wanted. Such a behavior made some of the runaways return to the city on their own volition. They gladly got to work in exchange for some food and protection.
A dog with decent conditions or a wolf, almost always hungry and hunted, but free. Some had the option to choose, while some did not.

Seeing that he could now have three supplementary skills brought enormous joy. Gorn read everything with maximum attention. The ability to fight himself rather than leaving it on autopilot was a nice change. A change that could allow him to both gain precious fighting experience and eventually challenge stronger opponents.
His inventory increased dramatically, providing ample space to store huge amounts of precious resources. A very handy feature to have no matter where you went. An addition of five more potential targets was also pleasant. Conversely, the most anticipated upgrade was the shop. Gorn was nearly trembling with excitement as he said: “Shop!”

Gorn took in a mouthful of fresh air. There was a lot to process. A bunch of useful items appeared abruptly. Everything seemed useful, and he wanted to buy them all. The prices, though, were astronomical. Even with the new five available slots, and on maximum efficiency, gathering gold for some of the new stuff would take him years. Just as he was thinking of this problem, a new message appeared.
New available mission: Hunter> kill five adult reapers. Reward: 1,000,000 gold.
