Chapter 8: 07 | Character Model
Though Victoria wasn't a creative writing major nor was she an avid reader, she asked her question to indulge Blue and have him let down his guard a little bit. Everyone knew that Blue became a totally different person whenever he talked about his writing and books.
Victoria wanted to use that to her advantage to hook Blue. And she was successful.
Blue's hostile air toned down a notch as he let out a sigh. Then he placed his elbow on the table and rested one side of his face on his palm.
"What? What's wrong?" Victoria asked carefully. Blue hadn't even said anything yet and he already looked tired of speaking.
Adam cleared his throat and spoke in Blue's stead. "He doesn't even know what it's about. How can he tell you about it?"
Winter unconsciously leaned in, interested in this conversation. But he was also a little bit upset. This was because he had purchased a copy of 'How to be a perfect Omega', Blue's first book, and hadn't read it yet.
So he had no idea what it was about other than the title. He felt like if he had read the book, he would have been able to start up a conversation with Blue like the way Victoria was doing.
"How many times am I going to tell you that I know what I'm doing?" Blue said to Adam with a slight frown on his face, then he turned to Victoria, treating Winter as though he was air, and said:
"It's about an Extremely Dominant Alpha mutating into an Omega."
His explanation was vague, leaving both Victoria and Winter wanting to ask more questions about it.
Winter had momentarily forgotten that he was an Alpha and was objectively despised by Blue, so he casually asked, "What is that supposed to mean?"
Blue's neck instantly snapped in Winter's direction so fast that one would think his neck broke because of the swift action. But it didn't. Blue's eyes were narrowed into thin slits as he looked at Winter.
Blue was deciphering which one of Winter's physical flaw to pick at and emphasize on first in order to ensure that the latter never made the mistake of asking him a question ever again in his life.
But alas, he couldn't find a physical flaw fast enough before Winter spoke up again.
"Sorry if that sounded intrusive. I was just curious. I've never heard of Extremely Dominant Alphas mutating into Omegas before." Winter spoke with a very polite and apologetic tone, causing both Victoria and Adam to feel pity for him.
They saw that Blue had only looked at Winter, and yet the latter had already been so scared that he uttered an apology. Victoria immediately engraved the fact that Blue was as vicious as the rumors said into her head.
She had never had a one-to-one talk with Blue before since he was always busy with one or two things. And when he wasn't busy, he was giving off 'don't talk to me' aura that made people not dare to talk to him.
"It's fiction." Dummy.
Though Blue didn't say 'dummy' out loud, the other three people seated could sense that he wanted to say it.
"Oh, right…" Winter trailed off with a resigned tone.
'Fuck,' Winter thought. 'What can I do get this little Omega ease down a little on me?'
"Anyway…" Victoria decided to liven up the place once again. "How did you come with the idea, Blue? It sounds exciting. When is the book coming out?"
Blue emptied his glass before he spoke. Winter suddenly noticed that Blue was on his second glass. Did his little Omega like alcohol very much?
Winter was tempted to stroke his chin sinisterly, but resisted doing so, in order not to contradict the sunshine persona he was keeping up with.
"It should be out soon, so says my editor. But I can't rush the process. And as for the idea, I don't know. It was just on a whim. I don't plan my plots. They just come to me." Blue responded with a shrug.
But he was lying. The idea wasn't on a whim. Unlike the storyline of 'How to be a perfect Omega' which was written to let out frustration and was not really planned, this idea of his had been in his head for years.
Way before 'How to be a perfect Omega' sprouted and bloomed.
Blue could still remember the day that he had manifested as an Omega. The person next door to him in the hospital had manifested as an Extremely Dominant Alpha that same day.
The two didn't want the secondary genders that they had. But they had no way to change their beings.
At the old memory, Blue couldn't help but fill up his glass once again and chug the entire thing down at a go.
"Wow. That's really impressive of you." Victoria said, the insincerity in her words were not hidden perfectly.
Hearing Blue speak casually about his talent sounded like showing off to Victoria. She was now beginning to understand why he was truly hated by everyone.
"It really is impressive." Winter added, his words were so sincere in comparison to Victoria's words.
Plus the awestruck expression on his face as he said those words. Blue couldn't help but slightly veer back in surprise, not expecting an Alpha of all beings to have positive views about his work.
But Blue had no idea that he was believing the wrong thing. Winter had long since learned how to school expressions for situations like this. Faking being impressed was too easy for him. And understanding the effects of his pretense was a piece of cake.
Winter could immediately tell that he had finally left an impression on his little Omega.
"It would be more impressive if he actually knew what he was doing." Adam added in passing, wanting to rile Blue up a little bit for revenge.
Blue took bait.
"I told you, I know what I'm doing! All that I need is an Extremely Dominant Alpha! Once that's out of the way, it would be smooth sailing afterwards." Blue humphed at the end of his outburst, then waved for two more bottles of alcohol to be brought to their table.
Winter's ears erected when he heard Blue say, "All I need is an Extremely Dominant Alpha."
And as fate would have it, here he was, live, kicking, and being an Extremely Dominant Alpha! He was all Blue needed.
Winter was tempted to find a temple right away and offer blessings to God. The heavens were really on his side this time. How convenient.
"Extremely Dominant Alphas… they are very rare, aren't they?" Winter spoke with a sympathic tone, shaking his head sadly.
Blue didn't say anything. Adam was the one who responded to Winter's words by saying, "Exactly. Finding an Extremely Dominant Alpha is so hard. Imagine how hard it would be to find one who would be willing to be used a model for a fictional character?"
'I can already imagine.' Winter thought, smirking internally.
"Ah? Model for a fictional character?" Winter questioned out loud, feigning curiosity as he looked between Blue and Adam.
This time, Blue put off his aloof air towards the Alpha sitting across from him and responded normally as he said, "To make the book appear more realistic it would be good to have a living model for the character. And any Extremely Dominant Alpha would be a good fit."
"A good fit, how?" Winter asked, trying his best not to appear smug.
"The character should be an Alpha to the bone. And who could Alpha better than a special breed Alpha?" Blue quickly replied.
Winter didn't say anything after that, he only nodded in understanding. Victoria asked Blue a question but Winter didn't hear it because he was too absorbed in his thoughts.
'Who could Alpha better than a special breed Alpha, huh? What an interesting way of thinking…' Winter mused.
Blue had just finished responding to Victoria's question when Winter asked Blue, "What would you do if you were to find an Extremely Dominant Alpha willing to be a character model for you right now?"
Blue gave Winter an 'are you stupid' look, then asked, "Why are you asking that?"
Winter smiled brightly and said, "I'm just curious."
Blue rolled his eyes, saying, "I'd make him my character model." Obviously.
Blue added the last word with his eyes, not saying it out loud, but everyone understood the message. Winter's smile broadened.
Winter opened his mouth to tell Blue that he was the chosen one he had been searching for, but another voice clouded his own.
"Aye, w-what's going on here? So many pretty Omegas. You folks throwing a party or something?"
It was a sleazy masculine voice. Everyone in the pub automatically turned to face the owner of the voice who was standing at the door. It was a middle-aged man with a big belly and an ugly flushed face. It was obvious that he was drunk.
Two other men were standing behind him, though they were also drunk, they had more sense than the first man who was making a ruckus, choosing to keep quiet and hide themselves.
The big-bellied man walked into the pub with raised shoulders and went to the first table on his path.
"Sweet girl, hiccup, how 'bout I buy you a drink?" he spoke to a female Omega. Coincidentally, it was the same girl who had spoken up against Blue the other day during the club meeting.
Winter suddenly sipped his drink. Though he had been interrupted by the foolish big-bellied man, he could sense that something very entertaining was about to take place.
