Chapter 6: 05 | Friends with Benefits
"Yo, what's with the tense atmosphere here?" Oliver Rivers said as he stepped forward, sensing an odd chill in the air.
Oliver had wanted to come give the Empowerment club some hype for Blue's closing action, but it seemed like he had walked into a battlefield.
"It's nothing, Oliver." Adam was the one who answered Oliver's question with a distant tone, which was unlike his warm and polite persona.
"Everyone. The convention isn't over yet. You know what to do. Lead the audience and spread word of the next one." Adam ordered the club members and they began to disperse.
Oliver watched as people passed by him with uncomfortable expressions. Only some were able to wave at him, forcing smiles on their faces as they did.
Oliver walked over to where Adam and Blue were standing. Then he slung an arm around Blue's neck and said, "Hey, what's wrong with you? Why's your face all stiff?"
He even went as far as to pinch Blue's cheeks. The latter only playfully slapped Oliver's hands off his cheek, but didn't make any attempt to remove the hand that was hanging around his shoulders.
Winter, who was watching this scene, was almost stunned to tears. Who was this person who could touch Blue's face and hang his arm around his shoulders!?
During Winter's research on Blue, he had never heard anything about Blue being in a relationship. So what was happening in front of him now?
As several thoughts began to run inside Winter's head, a single thought appeared in his mind like a light bulb.
Perhaps this guy was his cousin. Yeah, it sounded right to Winter. He shouldn't assume people were in a romantic relationship just because they stood together so closely and let each other touch their faces casually.
It could also mean that they were related.
Winter backed away from Blue, Adam, and Oliver to watch what would happen from behind the scene. He was the only other person who was still standing around backstage with the trio.
It would seem weird if he stood in their midst to listen to them directly. Eavesdropping quietly in a corner was a better choice.
"Why are you here?" Blue asked Oliver. Not rudely, just curiously.
Oliver removed his hand from Blue's shoulders and shrugged before saying, "Just wanted to see you."
'Cousins. This should be normal cousin family behavior. Yes. There's no need to think too much.' Winter said to himself.
"Then you must have seen the whole thing that he pulled off when he was on stage." Adam spoke up with a sour tone.
Oliver chortled. "I did. I'm guessing it wasn't planned, was it?"
Blue rolled his eyes. "Those Alphas needed some talking down to. You can't blame me."
Before Oliver got a chance to verbally agree with Blue's words, Adam pointed a finger at Blue and said, "I can blame you! I'm all for you smack talking Alphas on a regular day, but this is a club activity."
"The Empowerment club might not be as important to you as it is to me and maybe that's why you still can't understand why I'm so upset." Adam cried out.
Blue didn't say anything. The atmosphere became tense. Adam sucked in a deep breath and exhaled through his mouth, then he pushed his hair out of his face.
"I'm going out for a drink. I'll see you two later." Adam casually excused himself and left.
Winter now had more reason to linger behind the shadows.
With only Blue and Oliver around, Oliver hung his arm around Blue's shoulders once again.
"You must be really tense to have gone off at such an event," Oliver said.
Blue didn't respond.
Oliver's mouth lingered close to Blue's ears, and he shamelessly said, "I know exactly how to ease the tension in your body."
Thanks to Winter's Extremely Dominant Alpha identity, he was able to pick up Oliver's words clearly due to his high sensitivity.
'Not cousins,' Winter told himself. 'They are definitely not cousins!'
Almost like Oliver wanted to prove Winter's theory right, he began to pepper kisses all over Blue's ear and trailed down to his neck. He was about to cover Blue's mouth with his own when Blue placed a hand on his chest and pushed him back a little bit.
"I'm not in the mood." Blue spoke with a regretful tone.
Unconsciously, Winter's fists were tightened shut and his jaw was about to break due to how hard he was gnashing his teeth.
His pheromones were almost seeping out from his body. If he didn't want to get exposed soon, he'd have to calm himself down.
"You sure?" Oliver drew close to Blue once again to kiss him, but Blue nodded his head.
Then he said, "I'm absolutely sure. I have something to do at home. I'm leaving."
Immediately after saying these words, Blue walked away, leaving Oliver alone. Winter calmed down after hearing that straightforward rejection, causing his pheromone level to settle. Winter now wanted to leave as Blue had gone. He was about to take a step when he heard Oliver say:
"Shit, what to do now? He might not be in the mood, but I am."
Winter reeled back in disgust. How dare this low life try to get with his precious prey!?
Winter watched as Oliver pulled out a phone from his pocket, then swiped it a couple of times before placing it against his ear.
"Hey darling, are you free tonight? Nice. I'll be there in twenty minutes." Oliver said, then smiled perversely and walked away.
As a pervert himself, Winter understood the meaning of that smile very well. It meant that he was about to get it on! But the person he would be getting it on with was obviously not Blue.
And from the way he had behaved with Blue, Winter had reason to believe that their relationship wasn't a simple one. After witnessing what Oliver just did, Winter concluded that Blue and Oliver were dating, but Oliver was a scumbag who was two-timing Blue!
Though Winter was a perverse scumbag, he would never two-time his prey! Never ever. Cheating was unforgivable.
It was simply unacceptable. Fooling around was okay when one was not properly engaged, but fooling around whilst having a proper partner was just cruel.
Winter could never understand why people cheated. If he wasn't feeling anything for a person, Winter believed that he would be able to tell them straightforwardly and move on to the one he had eyes for.
It was a bit cruel, but he thought it was better than deceiving a person and having them hang around without any sense of guilt.
Winter immediately wanted to find Blue and tell him that he was being cheated on. If he did that, he would be able to free Blue from his relationship entanglement and also score brownie points with Blue for being an honest gentleman.
Very nice. Oliver's cheating was going to help him attain Blue even faster. As Winter started walking out to find Blue, his phone began to buzz against his pocket.
Winter got his phone out and saw that it was Logan calling him. Logan hadn't attended this convention because he would be going into his rut tomorrow and his pheromones were currently unstable.
Poor Logan. If he were around, he would have gotten the perfect opportunity to comfort Adam who was in a bad mood.
Winter accepted the call and placed his phone against his ear.
"What is it?" Winter asked sharply, slightly annoyed that Logan was interrupting his plan.
"Who got up in your pants?" Logan asked, confused as to why Winter was blowing off on him.
"I was about to do something important and you're interrupting me." Winter explained with a frown on his face.
Logan was suddenly interested in the 'something important' that Winter wanted to do, so he asked, "And what's that?"
A smug look settled on Winter's face as he said, "I just caught my little Omega's partner cheating on him. I'm about to expose his partner and win brownie points."
Logan was perplexed. Winter was talking about Blue, right? It took a second for Logan to gather his thoughts before he said, "Blue's your little Omega, right? Is his cheating partner Oliver Rivers? Also, when did he and Blue become official?"
To Winter, there were two things wrong with Logan's third question. The first thing was that he sounded like he already knew that there was a relationship between Blue and Oliver.
The second thing was that he sounded like the two were together but not together. This made Winter put a pause on his plans.
"What do you mean by 'official'? Are they not officially together now?" Winter asked slowly, his poor brownie points would rely on the answer that he was about to get from Logan.
"From what I know, they're not. I heard that they're kind of friends with benefits." Logan responded casually.
Winter's phone slipped from his grasp.
