Chapter 147: King's Wrath
Canna stood at the threshold of the massive portal, the swirling vortex of energy casting an eerie light over the dark, blood-soaked dungeon. Behind him, the three legendary beings—Lumivyre, Terrorfang, and Aurelis—watched silently, their formidable presence filling the chamber with a sense of awe and reverence.
The dungeon that had been their prison for countless years was now nothing more than a hollow shell, devoid of life, and its secrets plundered.
But before he could accompany them to their new home, Canna knew he had to be certain. With a final glance at the towering figures behind him entering the portal, he turned and began his last sweep of the dungeon. The walls echoed with the sound of his footsteps as he moved through the darkened corridors, his senses sharp and alert.
The Bloodfang Scythe, still gripped tightly in his hand, hummed with a faint, sinister energy. The weapon had been instrumental in his victory, its sharp edge cleaving through the Homunculi that had guarded the depths of the dungeon. Without it, Canna knew he and his team would have perished in the bowels of this cursed place.
The Homunculi had been no ordinary foes—True-Calamity beings, enhanced by ancient alchemy and dark magic, they had pushed Canna to the brink.
It had taken everything he had—his full powers, the combined strength of his four subordinates, and the might of 200 Great-Calamity creatures, not to mention the thousands of mid and low-calamities—to bring them down. And even then, they had not gone down easily. In their final moments, the Homunculi had sacrificed their cores, igniting a destructive force that had nearly consumed them all.
But Canna had persevered, and now, he was determined to ensure that no stone had been left unturned.
He moved through the dungeon with methodical precision, checking every cell, every hidden chamber. But there was nothing—no other creatures, no more secrets to uncover. The three legendary beasts were the last of the dungeon's inhabitants.
Satisfied, Canna returned to the portal. He paused, turning the Bloodfang Scythe over in his hands one last time. The weapon had served him well, its dark power a key to his survival and success. With a quiet word of thanks, Canna unsummoned the scythe, watching as it dissolved into the air. The battle was over, but the war was just beginning.
Canna took a deep breath and transformed into a bolt of lightning, his form streaking through the dungeon's corridors with blinding speed. He reached the massive doors that led to the surface and, with a single, powerful kick, sent them crashing open. The guards stationed outside barely had time to react before Canna was upon them, dispatching them with swift, decisive strikes.
The dungeon was deep underground, and the battle that had raged within had gone unnoticed by those above. Canna moved through the city's alleys with practiced ease, staying one step ahead of the guards who pursued him. But they were no match for his speed and cunning. In a matter of moments, he had slipped past them, entering the sanctuary again and leaving his pursuers chasing nothing but the wind.
Meanwhile, in the Heart of the Kingdom
The atmosphere in the grand hall was tense, the air thick with the weight of bad news. The king sat at the head of the long table, his expression as dark as the storm clouds gathering outside. Around him were the most powerful men in the kingdom—the generals, the high mages, the advisors who held the reins of power.
All of them wore grim expressions, their eyes fixed on the man standing before them, his face pale as he delivered his report.
"The dungeon is… empty, Your Majesty," the man stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. "Every cell, every chamber. There's nothing left. No trace of the prisoners, no sign of the creatures… just broken doors and… nothing."
The king's eyes narrowed, his knuckles whitening as he gripped the armrests of his throne. "What do you mean, nothing? That dungeon held some of the most dangerous beings in existence—how could they just disappear?"
"There were… signs of a battle, Your Majesty," the man continued, sweat beading on his forehead. "But it's as if the entire place was… wiped clean. We found no bodies, no remains. Just… emptiness."
The generals exchanged uneasy glances, their minds racing. The dungeon had been one of their most closely guarded secrets, a place where the kingdom's enemies were kept under lock and key, along with creatures too dangerous to roam free. The fact that it had been cleared out without anyone noticing was a nightmare realized.
But the man wasn't finished. "The lower floors… they were cleared out as well. Every prisoner, every creature—gone. It's as if they vanished into thin air."
The king felt a cold sweat trickle down his spine. The lower floors had been home to the kingdom's most dangerous captives—beings of immense power, whose very existence was a threat to everyone.
"Surely, he didn't…" the king whispered, his voice trembling with fear.
The man nodded, his expression bleak. "The massive gate at the bottom… it was open. And there was nothing behind it. No creatures, no signs of a struggle… just an empty chamber."
A collective gasp filled the room, followed by a heavy silence. The king's mind raced, his thoughts dark and frantic. The creatures that had been held behind that gate were beyond powerful—they were legendary, beings of myth and nightmare. The kingdom had spent centuries capturing them, locking them away where they could do no harm and use them for what they see fit. And now they were gone.

The king's fury was palpable, his face a mask of rage. "How could this happen? How could we have let this happen?"
He slammed his fist on the table, the force of the blow making the room tremble. "Find him! Find Kael and that wretched Canna! I don't care what it takes—hunt them down, bring them to me! Whoever brings me their heads will be rewarded beyond their wildest dreams!"
The king's advisors and generals hurriedly bowed, their faces pale as they rushed to carry out his orders. The kingdom was now in a state of emergency, and every resource would be thrown into the hunt for Canna. The king's wrath was absolute, and nothing would stand in the way of his vengeance.
Back in the Sanctuary
Canna stepped through the portal, the familiar feeling of the sanctuary's warm, welcoming energy washing over him. Behind him, were Lumivyre, Terrorfang, and Aurelis, their forms casting long shadows over the lush landscape. The sanctuary was quiet, serene, the complete opposite of the chaos and darkness they had just left behind.
Canna turned to face the three legendary beings, his expression calm but his eyes filled with admiration. "Something you'd expect from legendary beasts," he said, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Your stats, your titles, your skills—they're all off the charts."
The three beings regarded him with curiosity and something akin to respect. They had witnessed his strength and determination, and now they were here, in this sanctuary he had created.
Lumivyre, the Celestial Serpent, uncoiled slightly, its shimmering scales catching the light of the setting sun. "This place… it is unlike any we have seen," the serpent mused, its voice echoing in Canna's mind. "There is a peace here, a balance. You have done well, Can - master."
Terrorfang, the Primal Titan, let out a low growl, his crimson fur rippling in the breeze. "You are strong, master. Stronger than most. But strength alone will not be enough to protect this place."
Aurelis, the Solar Lion, stepped forward, its golden mane glowing with a soft, warm light. "We will lend you our power, as we have agreed. But know this, —we will not be used as mere tools of war. We are more than that."
Canna nodded, understanding the gravity of their words. "I know. I don't intend to use you like those who imprisoned you. You are free here, to do as you wish. But if you choose to fight by my side, to help me protect this sanctuary, then we will stand together, as allies, not as master and servant."
The three beings exchanged glances, a silent conversation passing between them. Then, one by one, they nodded their agreement.
"Very well," Lumivyre said, its voice filled with resolve. "We will fight by your side, Canna. But remember our pact—our freedom is our own."
Canna smiled, a sense of relief washing over him. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the sanctuary in a warm, golden glow, Canna felt a renewed sense of purpose. The kingdom would come for him, that much was certain. But now, with the power of Lumivyre, Terrorfang, and Aurelis by his side, he knew that he was ready for whatever came next.
Unfortunately for the kingdom, Canna was only beginning.
