Chapter 89: Ninja Hero
"Old man, what are you doing here?"
When Kurotsuchi and Akatsuchi, led by Kitsuchi, found Ōnoki silently sitting in a corner, the elder Tsuchikage glanced at his son and granddaughter without saying much.
"Father, the Sand Shinobi have attacked Konoha. What should we do?" Kitsuchi's voice was deep and gruff.
"Stay put. Do nothing," Ōnoki finally spoke slowly, his expression tinged with melancholy.
The moment Tsunade had distanced herself from him, Ōnoki had genuinely considered attacking Hiruzen Sarutobi. But heaven knows what he had seen at that moment.
Twenty minutes earlier, Ōnoki had swiftly dodged the range of an iron ball attack and witnessed a pink figure carrying Konoha's Copy Ninja, Hatake Kakashi, toward the shattered Four Violet Flames Formation.
With his sharp and experienced eyes, Ōnoki immediately recognized that the one who had thrown the iron ball was none other than Sarutobi Hiruzen's disciple, Haruno Sakura.
As he had suspected, Konoha had produced yet another genius.
This genius, however, was only twelve years old and far from reaching full potential.
If he eliminated this unripe talent now…
In that moment, Ōnoki's thoughts wandered.
He remembered his teacher, the Second Tsuchikage, Mu.
He recalled the imposing man who had succumbed to grievous injuries after battling the Second Mizukage, Hozuki Gengetsu. On his deathbed, Mu entrusted the village to Ōnoki.
At this moment, Ōnoki contemplated killing the Hokage and severing Konoha's future. Victory was within his grasp, and he wondered if this was his one and only chance.
Just as he resolved to act, intending to use Dust Release to eliminate the Hokage and Haruno Sakura while no immediate threat surrounded him, he saw someone he absolutely didn't want to see—
The God of Shinobi, Hashirama Senju.
That towering figure reappeared like a nightmare before him.
Only those who had lived through Hashirama's era truly understood the terror of that man.
Suddenly, Ōnoki realized that waiting in silence for the situation to conclude wasn't such a bad strategy after all.
The Edo Tensei technique… Ōnoki knew of it.
Tobirama Senju had once used this forbidden jutsu to summon the deceased enemies of others, attaching explosive tags to their bodies and detonating them near the enemy's loved ones.
Never did he expect Konoha to have developed Edo Tensei to such a degree that it could directly engage in combat.
If Orochimaru could summon Hashirama, why couldn't Konoha?
Ōnoki, thinking of the worst-case scenario, realized that he couldn't afford to gamble.
"What? Sakura, you're planning to hold off two Hokage by yourself?"
Hiruzen Sarutobi stared at his disciple in shock.
"Yeah, so you'd better hurry up and deal with Orochimaru," Sakura replied casually, pulling on a pair of black gloves with practiced ease.
From her previous battle with Orochimaru, she understood that defeating him required Enma's assistance. But with Hiruzen here, and Enma being a singular entity, she decided it was better to focus on the revived Hokage instead of Orochimaru.
"Go, go! I'm counting on you to teach me how to be Hokage someday, old man," Sakura teased, giving him a little push.
Hiruzen, taken aback, felt his resolve begin to soften.
He had intended to eliminate both Orochimaru and Rasa here, but perhaps the future was more important.
"Alright, since that's the case, let this useless old man show you the spirit of the Shinobi Heroes from back in the day!"
Hiruzen's gaze turned cold and steely as he faced Orochimaru. The long-lost shinobi hero once again stepped onto the battlefield.
"Orochimaru, my once-prized disciple. Today marks the end of everything!"
Hiruzen formed hand seals and roared:
"Summoning Jutsu!"
The towering figure of the Monkey King, Enma, reappeared on the battlefield.
"Old man, back then you…"
"Enma, Adamantine Staff!"
Before Enma could finish his words, Hiruzen commanded.
The Monkey King transformed into a staff, and Hiruzen charged at Orochimaru!
Seeing this, Orochimaru spat out a snake, which in turn spat out a sharp, gleaming blade.
As Hiruzen and Orochimaru clashed, Sakura nudged Kakashi, signaling him to act.
Kakashi hesitated, glancing at the two Hokage and then at the cold and unmoving Rasa. Finally, he steeled himself and charged toward the Fourth Kazekage.
Rasa smirked coldly at the approaching Kakashi.
This?
Was Kakashi meant to fight him?
How insulting!
Surely, Tsunade should be facing him instead. Had Konoha abandoned Kakashi?
Smiling derisively, Rasa raised a hand, unleashing a wave of gold sand he had previously prepared.
Kakashi's eyes sharpened as he moved swiftly, weaving hand seals.
"Water Style: Water Encampment Wall!"
Meanwhile, Sakura braced herself, her focus on the two revived Hokage.
As for Tsunade?
Sakura hadn't even considered her.
If it weren't for Jiraiya, she wouldn't have been left holding off two Hokage on her own.
Tobirama Senju, struggling against the commands driving his body, quickly formed hand seals.
"Water Style: Water Severing Wave!"
A high-pressure water jet shot toward Sakura, who charged forward, unflinching.
Her black gloves, forged from chakra metal and rare materials, were crafted by a smith Hiruzen had introduced to her—a project that had drained four years of her savings.
"Too reckless!"
Watching her, Hashirama grew concerned, but his worry quickly turned to astonishment as his brother was punched away.
Yet, his own body began moving against his will.
"Wood Style: Deep Forest Emergence!"
