Chapter 6: CHAPTER SIX
I stayed at home for four days without seeing or talking to Kyle. I was so shy and I distanced myself from him after that incident.
Tomorrow is Christmas, and my heart told me I should get Kyle a present, so I decided to go out.
I took a bath, put on a long yellow gown and my white winter boots. I looked in the mirror one last time and decided to let my hair down. Then I saw a face in the mirror. It whispered:
"Be prepared."
And then it disappeared.
Maybe it was just my imagination again. I grabbed my black purse and ran downstairs.
"Good morning, Mom," I greeted.
"Oh, honey bear, you're up!"
"Yeah."
"Going out?"
"Yes, Mom, but I'm hungry."
"Don't worry, I prepared your favorite."
I sat at the table and ate my breakfast—chocolate pancakes with a cup of hot chocolate—then left after eating.
At the store, I wondered what to get for Kyle. I saw a beautiful orange scarf and decided to get it for my mom. As I was about to buy a wristwatch for Kyle, I saw a green guitar and had a vision of him playing it. I decided to take that instead.
When I got home, I hid the present in my secret room—where no one knows, not even you. Yes, you, the one I'm talking to.
The next morning, I woke up as early as I could—around 8:00 a.m. When I went downstairs, the whole family was busy. Mom gave me a list of things she forgot to buy, so I decided to go get them since I had nothing else to do.
Then Kyle came to my mind... and there he was.
"Hey, darling. Want a ride?" he asked.
He dropped me off at home, and I asked him if he could come over for dinner. He accepted.
By the time it was dinner, everything was perfectly arranged. When the doorbell rang, my heart started beating fast. It was Kyle.
He came in and saw me, mesmerized.
I was wearing a short blue gown, and my hair was styled beautifully.
"Hey," he said, leaning in to whisper in my ear.
"You look so beautiful. Even the stars and the moon can't outshine your radiant beauty."
Oh my gosh. I was now certain—the letters came from Kyle.
We sat at the table, and I introduced him to my family. We had a wonderful dinner.
Later, we went upstairs to my room. I gave him his present. He opened it and was so happy.
"Oh my God! How did you know I love playing the guitar?"
"I don't know... maybe my instinct," I said.
"Or maybe it's love," he smirked.
"Here, this is for you. I will never forget you," he said, handing me my gift.
He had to go outside to get it from his car.
"Oh my gosh! Thank you so much," I said, unwrapping it. It was a beautiful, large teddy bear.
"I love teddy bears! How did you know?"
"I don't know... maybe my instinct," he teased.
"Or maybe it's love," I smirked.
We both laughed.
We talked all night, and eventually, he decided to stay over. I gave him a shirt and a top that would fit him. I went to freshen up and slid into my nightgown.
"Um, beauty? I need a blanket," he asked.
"There's one right here," I said, holding up the one on the bed.
"No, I mean... I'm sleeping on the couch."
"Who asked you to? Come sleep with me," I said and laid down.
"Um, beauty?"
"Yeah?"
"There's something I need to tell you," he said.
"What's that?"
"Nothing... maybe tomorrow."
"Okay," I said, turning to peck him on the cheek.
I think I'm in love with Kyle, and I know he feels the same. So why hasn't he asked me out yet? I kept wondering.
In the middle of the night, I woke up to use the toilet. Kyle's phone beeped. I ignored it. But when I came back to bed, it beeped again.
I decided to check.
"Hey Kyle, you're really a flirt. You managed to win her heart. Make sure she agrees to date you; if not, you lose the money you bet. And after that, you get rid of the girl."
I read the message on his phone.
No way...
