Chapter 17: The Medicine Business
The wild wolf's vitality was extremely tenacious. Zhang Tuohai waited for an hour before the wolf finally weakened, lying on the ground and staring fiercely in the direction where Zhang Tuohai was.
[The wild wolf has lost the ability to resist. There are no other creatures around. You may proceed.]
The system provided a prompt.
“This is the moment I’ve been waiting for!”
With the system’s prompt, Zhang Tuohai became bolder.
Holding a hunting spear in one hand and a strong flashlight in the other, he approached the wild wolf.
“No matter how cunning you are, you can't escape from me. So, how does it feel to finally end up in my hands?”
Zhang Tuohai shone the flashlight on the wolf lying on the ground.
The wild wolf stared at Zhang Tuohai with fierce, green eyes filled with malice.
If it weren't completely exhausted, it would have already pounced on him to bite his neck off.
“Oh, still daring to glare at me, huh?”
Looking at the wolf's vicious gaze, anger surged in Zhang Tuohai's heart.
Even at this point, the wolf still had a ferocious look, trying to intimidate—who was it trying to scare? Remembering how he was almost deceived by this beast earlier, Zhang Tuohai became even angrier.
If word got out that he was almost fooled by a beast, how could he ever show his face again? Kill it. Kill it.
Zhang Tuohai raised his hunting spear and thrust it towards the wolf.
By this time, the wild wolf was already so exhausted that even moving was a struggle. Zhang Tuohai's spear pierced the wolf’s throat without any resistance.
Splurt! Blood spurted out.
The wild wolf struggled a few times before losing its breath.
Seeing that the wolf was no longer moving, Zhang Tuohai used the flashlight to shine directly into the wolf’s eyes again.
Seeing that the wolf indeed had no reaction, he finally felt at ease.
No animal could withstand a direct beam from a strong flashlight to the eyes.
Zhang Tuohai pulled out a skinning knife from his pocket and stabbed it into the wolf.
[Detected skinning knife, this will cause a slight loss in meat quantity. Do you wish to continue disassembling?]
“Yes.”
[Obtained wolf meat: 500 grams * 120]
[Obtained one set of internal organs]
[Obtained wolf bones]
[Obtained wolf skin]
[Obtained one ordinary spirit essence]
Quite an harvest.
Zhang Tuohai first picked up the wolf skin.
The bluish-gray fur was soft but a bit prickly to the touch, not as soft as tiger skin, and the fur color wasn’t as appealing as tiger skin either.
He decided to keep it for now, thinking he’d deal with it when someone needed it later.
He rolled up the wolf skin and tossed it into the trunk.
He did the same with the wolf bones. Although he didn’t know their use, it didn’t hurt to keep them.
The internal organs were easy to handle; a quick stir-fry with some greens would make a dish.
However, handling the wolf meat was a bit of a dilemma for Zhang Tuohai.
As for eating, he already had enough pork and tiger meat. As for the wolf meat, it smelled a bit gamey, and he wasn’t very interested.
Logically, the best choice would be to sell it directly on the platform.
However, he had previously stated on the platform that everyone would only be able to survive on scraps of meat in the future.
If he now put the wolf meat up for sale, wouldn’t that be slapping his own face?
No one would believe him if he said anything in the future.
The meat could be put up for sale, but at the very least, not until after the first disaster day.
After thinking it over, Zhang Tuohai still couldn’t decide what to do with the meat.
Ultimately, Zhang Tuohai decided to toss the meat into the car for now and figure it out later.
If he couldn’t find a new storage method before sunset, he’d turn the meat into rendered fat and sell it off slowly.
After packing everything into the car, Zhang Tuohai checked his watch.
It was already past 5 AM.
In less than an hour, it would be dawn.
Zhang Tuohai couldn’t sleep, so he opened the regional channel to see what everyone else was up to.
At this time, the regional channel was already flooded with messages, with information scrolling up at a rapid pace, making it almost impossible for Zhang Tuohai to read the text.
He frowned, scrolled back through the messages, read them carefully, and finally understood what had happened.
It turned out that this night, not only had he encountered a beast attack, but many others had also been attacked by beasts.
And the attacking beasts weren’t just wild wolves.
Lions, tigers, leopards, rhinos, and brown bears were all involved.
It was unclear why so many grassland and forest animals were in the desert region.
Someone even claimed that they had been chased by an elephant for over an hour, and if they hadn’t run quickly, they might have been trampled into a meat patty.
Whether this was true or just bragging was anyone’s guess.
Many people had died, with the system issuing dozens of death notices, all with the same cause: killed by beasts.
Quite a few were injured and were asking for help in the regional channel, hoping to obtain medicine.
Some even put all their possessions up for trade just to get a healing potion.
However, Zhang Tuohai couldn’t do much.
Although he had a blueprint for making anti-inflammatory medicine, he didn’t have any Level 1 herbs. Even the best cook can’t make a meal without ingredients.
Nonetheless, out of humanitarian spirit, Zhang Tuohai posted a message on the trading channel.
[Processing anti-inflammatory medicine: 3 units of Level 1 herbs for one anti-inflammatory pill, direct trade, limited to 100 people.]
Zhang Tuohai added the last line after careful thought.
If he didn’t add it, those with herbs but not injured might just decide to “wait and see” and not trade.
Adding a limit would create a sense of urgency, pushing them to trade with him.
As for how many people traded with him, that would be up to him to decide.
Once Zhang Tuohai posted the trade message, the regional channel immediately exploded.
“Another move by the boss! The boss actually has anti-inflammatory medicine!”
“Boss, please sell me an anti-inflammatory pill. I’ll give you a bag of toast.”
“Are you blind? Didn’t you read? The boss wrote ‘processing only,’ which means he only has the blueprint and no materials. You have to provide the materials if you want the anti-inflammatory medicine.”
“Damn, I only have one unit of herbs. Does anyone else have herbs? I’ll trade cookies for them.”
“Boss, you’re amazing! I have 3 units of herbs. Make one pill for me first.”
“I’m not injured, but I’d rather make one just in case. Who knows when it might come in handy?”
“If you’re not injured, get to the back of the line. The opportunity should be given to those of us who are injured. Boss, I only have two units of herbs, but I’ve managed to get a snake carcass. Could that be used to offset the cost?”
The regional channel was full of praise. Those without herbs were busy trying to buy them, and those with herbs were scrambling to trade with Zhang Tuohai, afraid that they’d miss out.
Amidst the lively scene in the regional channel, a gloomy young man looked so angry his face was almost dripping.
His name was Fan Mingkun. He used to be a scam artist, and perhaps as retribution for his wrongdoings, in two days, he had opened seven or eight boxes, and aside from this blueprint, all he got was broken wood and scraps of cloth, not even half a piece of bread.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been in such a hurry and ended up trading the blueprint to Zhang Tuohai.
Now, he was regretting it bitterly.
If he had just held on for one more night, he would have been the one raking in the profits now.
