The first thing our foursome did was take the slave trader's chest. Twenty gold pieces were put into their hands for bringing it. Having realised that there was a lot of money to be made in transporting goods, they began to carry them out, especially medicines. The first person they saved in this way was an old woman who needed an elixir. Some people started calling Naofumi a saint with a divine bird, while others were called shepherds. This confused Andrei and Raftalia, but the fact that Naofumi was no longer considered an afterthought made them happy.
For the moment they were waiting for a jeweller who had asked to take him to another village. They didn't have to wait long, he came running when the last things for transport were already in the wagon and started talking.
- I'm all ready young men, we can go. -
Everyone looked at him and climbed into the wagon without a word. Firo turned into a philorial and Naofumi sat in the front next to Raftalia. Andrew sat in the back next to the jeweller who regarded him with a small smile. At that second they moved off and Andrei started a casual conversation with their new client.
- I guess it's a bit of a hard job to be a jeweller. You need good eyesight. May I ask why you're travelling to another village? -
The jeweller scratched his cheek a little and began to answer.
- Yes, young man, it's not an easy job, but it's worth it. And I'm going to another village on business, by the way, I also have a question. Do you do any crafting yourself, young man? -
Andrei hesitated a bit, but started to answer by looking at his swords.
- I can forge, perhaps I can do finer work. By the way, is there any way you can evaluate them? -
The jeweller nodded and Andrei put his blades next to him. After looking at them for a while the jeweller began to answer.
- Pretty good work, both blades are balanced and sharp enough to chop a small tree. The handles, hmm, feel like they're lightweight metal, very comfortable in addition, you've done very well young man. May I ask your name, not to call you the apostle of the saint who leads the heavenly bird. -
Andrei smiled slightly, and then began to answer the question he was asked.
- My full name is Andrey Sokolov, a friend and brother in one person for my comrades. You know, it's rather embarrassing that we've started to be called apostles of a saint. We're just doing what we have to do, in addition to always needing the money. -
The jeweller nodded and started talking again, rubbing his hair and taking off his hat.
- Nice to meet you Alexander, you know, you look quite unusual for these parts. Your hair is quite grey, though you can see a tinge of grey, one eye is like a blaze of green, the other one is like an extinguished one, but maybe that's because of the burn. And your body is completely covered, as if you're very secretive and can't relax. -
Andrei shrugged slightly and started to answer.
- I have reasons to be tense sir. I am a kind man, but I have reasons to be so tense and hide my body. And I can relax, something just isn't right right now. The road we've travelled is too calm, don't you think Naofumi. -
He turned round and started to answer.
- That's right Andrei, it's too calm here. It feels like something's about to happen that we're not expecting. -
Andrei agreed with this and most of the way he and the jeweller were silent, until one moment. Suddenly Naofumi stopped the wagon and Andrew got in the front, and then he saw that a whole group was standing on the road. Andrew got a better look at them and looked at his comrades and began to speak.
- Looks like bandits, we'll have to fight. But nothing, I think we'll manage without any problems. -
Raftalia smiled at these words and began to speak.
- I think so too, Brother Andrei, but there are many of them. That's why we have to be careful. -
Right after her Naofumi began to speak without any enthusiasm.
- If I had magic, we could do it in a second, but I think you can do it yourself. By the way, sir, they're not after you. I thought your friends told you this was a safe road. Don't you think that's a little strange? -
The jeweller nodded and with a serious face began to answer.
- I think so too, it seems my mates have decided to leave me behind. I hope you won't leave me in the lurch at this moment. -
Naofumi shrugged his shoulders and began to answer.
- You paid us to transport and guard you, which means we'll work for the money. By the way, do you think I should let all my comrades go after these bandits at once, or just one? -
The jeweller thought for a moment and wanted to answer, but he could not do so, for one of the bandits came out of the crowd and began to speak.
- Give me everything you have and the girl too, we'll have some fun with her. And if you don't do as we say, our fighter will talk to you. -
At the same second a guy with a sword and a satisfied grin appeared from the crowd. Seeing him, Andrei shook his head, then carefully climbed forward and stood at the edge of the wagon, holding on to it with one hand. Then he began to speak.
- Guys, you sit down, I'll show them that it's better not to mess with us, I'll see how well their fighter can wield a sword. -
He wanted to jump down carefully, but before he did, Raftalia stopped him and started talking.
- Be careful Andrei, if something goes wrong, we'll come to your rescue right away. -
Everyone agreed with this and Andrew jumped to the ground and started walking forward pulling out both swords, the bandits seeing only one man coming at them started laughing. Their best fighter came forward at once and began to speak.
- Go away, boy, you're no match for me. You'll be a corpse before you know it, so put down your swords and get back in the wagon. -
Andrew grinned and made a sharp bounce towards the enemy, then with a quick movement of his blade he knocked the sword out of the hands of the bandit, and with the hilt of the second one he made a blow on the back of his head, the bandit's eyes closed and he collapsed on the dusty road unconscious. The rest of the bandits who saw this immediately tensed up and prepared to fight. Andrew in turn looked at them, and then began to speak with a small smile.
- Now you have a chance to lay down your weapons, if you don't. You know what will happen. I hope you are reasonable people, I don't want to just swing my blades against those who are weaker. -
Some of the brigands wanted to do what Andrew said, but they were stopped by that insolent man, and then he began to speak.
- You're afraid of one ugly man. Let's all go at him together, and that's the end of it. I'm sure those in the wagon aren't that strong. -
Andrei shook his head, then with a frowning face began to speak louder.
- You shouldn't have refused, it looks like today I'll have to smash not just one face. And several, well, lovebirds, now let's see how good you are. -
The bandits immediately ran at him and began to attack. Andrew quickly dodged the attacks, and then just as quickly knocked out their weapons and made blows with the handles.
So it lasted a little while, Andrew looked at all who lay unconscious, and then looked in the direction of his comrades and began to speak.
- Guys, I'm okay, bring some rope, we'll tie them up. -
Naofumi nodded and took out a long rope from the cart. Then he gave it to Firo and she brought it to Andrei. He took it and began to speak.
- Thank you Firo, all that's left is to tie these guys up. Will you help me with this, please? -
Firo smiled with her beak and started talking.
- Sure, bro, what are we gonna do with them? -
Andrew just shrugged his shoulders and after a while the whole group of comrades stood around the captured brigands. At that moment they all came to their senses and started shouting with foul language, demanding to be released. Naofumi only laughed slightly at this and began to speak.
- Let them go, no, we'll leave you here, the knights will probably be patrolling this place, they'll figure out what to do with you, although your judgement is clear. -
At these words one of the brigands made a snide smile and began to speak.
- You are the hero of the shield, we can say that you robbed us. Who do you think will be believed more, the poor travellers or the despicable hero? So you'd better set us free. -
Naofumi clucked his tongue and began to answer.
- Well, that's true. So we better get rid of you, my bird is just an omnivore and she's even very hungry. How can I deny her such a treat. -
When the bandits heard this, they looked at Firo fearfully, and she made a sly smile. Andrew and Raftalia could hardly contain their laughter, and the jeweller looked at them and realised that it was a bluff, but kept the situation tense.
So Firo slowly approached the bandits and their leader began to speak at once.
- Hey, you're a heavenly bird saint and you're his apostles. You won't let this happen, if you want we'll give you anything you want, we won't even say anything. Just please take that bird away. -
Naofumi immediately made a sinister smile and began to speak, stopping Firo.
- I agree, you give us all the loot from your lair and don't say anything to anyone, otherwise you'll be in trouble. -
