Chapter 30
Splatter, splat, thud—
The sound of Yurie tumbling down the stairs echoed loudly.
Emilia, who had just stepped on the stairs, stared in surprise, watching Yurie rolling all the way down to the bottom.
“Miss Yurie!”
A few passing maids stopped, their faces showing astonishment as they looked at Yurie.
“Uh… ugh… hmm…”
Yurie, who had thrown herself down the stairs without restraint, was now a complete wreck.
Her head seemed to have hit something, and blood was streaming down.
“Oh, head maid!!.”
One maid covered her mouth, trying to stifle her voice.
Judging by their expressions, Yurie could tell that the plan had succeeded.
“What’s going on? Did you slip and fall?”
Yurie immediately wiped her nose with her hand, and as she cleaned the moist area, blood covered her hand.
“Oh, Miss Yurie, you’re bleeding from your nose!”
One oblivious servant shouted.
“What? Bleeding from the nose?”
“Miss Yurie’s nose is bloody?!”
Yurie wanted to smash their skulls right away, but she held back.
Then, she pretended to sob painfully.
“Ugh… ugh… it hurts so much! Help me!”
At Yurie’s crying, one by one, the employees rushed over.
Emilia, still bewildered, tried to support Yurie to help her stand, but Yurie didn’t get up and continued to cry painfully.
And at some point, she pointed her finger at Emilia and shouted.
“You… wicked woman!”
**
“It can’t be true, madam. I… I would never do such a thing.”
“Emilia pushed me down the stairs. I realized that I found out that she is the one giving the Duchess the stomach ache medicine.”
Yurie, her head wrapped in bandages, spoke with a convincing appeal compared to Emilia’s seemingly unharmed appearance.
Would anyone go to such lengths to create such a scene, even if they were bitter?
Leona alternated her gaze between the two kneeling in front of her.
“Miss Yurie’s words are false. Yes, I’m sure Miss Yurie fed the lady of the house the stomach ache medicine…”
“I told the other maids to investigate Emilia’s room.”
“Why should they investigate my room! This witch-like woman!”
However, before long, pale-faced maids entered with an empty medicine bottle.
Yurie spoke to Leona with a determined look.
“Look. If you examine the contents inside, you’ll be able to tell who dared to harbor ill intentions against the lady of the house.”
Leona’s expression turned sour.
“Madam! It’s all lies! Do you know how malicious Miss Yurie is…”
“Be quiet.”
Leona’s calm reprimand echoed.
“Madam… I’ve served you for ten years.”
“Whether it’s true or false, I cannot remain indifferent to the seeds of suspicion being planted by my side.”
“Madam!”
Emilia’s face turned pale, and her body trembled.
“Drag her out.”
At the madam’s merciless command, a few maids came in from outside.
“Madam! It’s not me! Yurie… Yurie, that bitch…”
“Don’t believe Emilia’s words. She has insulted you behind your back more than once, claiming that you grabbed her hair and hit her. You heard it too, right?”
Yurie asked the two maids with a strong gaze.
Since they had also gossiped about the lady of the house, they had no choice but to acknowledge it while trembling.
Emilia was dragged away, screaming.
No one in the mansion would see Emilia again.
“That’s right. Emilia… spread gossip about the lady of the house behind her back.”
“Miss Yurie is right.”
At the words of the other maids, Leona leaned back and closed her eyes.
The tips of her eyebrows were still raised, reaching sky-high.
The cause of the unknown stomachache was found. That wretched woman, Emilia, dared to do such a thing!
But there was something unsatisfactory.
If she had to, exposing Yurie Anesis as the one who made her drink the medicine and blaming it on Eshika’s command would have been more advantageous for Leona…
The real culprit, Emilia, could have been dealt with quietly and separately.
But Yurie’s ranting and raving had the whole house in an uproar.
So everyone in the mansion realized that Emilia was the one responsible for the upset stomach.
So the plan falls apart.
“That can’t be…”
She didn’t read that far and then fall down the stairs like that, did she?
Leona opened her eyes and looked at Yurie.
The bandage on Yurie’s forehead was stained with dirty blood.
Leona’s expression tightened.
The maids, who had been standing frozen, stiffened even more.
“I don’t want to see your ugly faces, so go outside.”
At Leona’s words, Yurie bowed his head deeply.
It worked.
If that had happened, even if Leona had pardoned her, she would have been out of Kallian’s favor forever.
Yurie was willing to take the steeper stairs if it meant achieving her goal.
“……Yes, Duchess, I’ll take my leave then.”
Yurie bowed and limped away.
Naturally, there was no guilt about Emilia in her mind.
There was only relief that she had survived the crisis, and a burning desire to fulfill her purpose somehow.
‘This hurts like hell……. Eshika, this is all because of you!’
And every muscle in his body was screaming.
