Return of the last survivor

"Kyaaaaaaaa~"

Max suddenly heard a woman's scream from the direction the boss had gone to not long ago. Looking closer, he spotted a dot moving swiftly through the air stepping on the ground every 50 meters.

Within moments, Merlin had arrived in front of Max, with Alice in his arms in a princess carry. Although Mex was momentarily stunned by the sudden arrival of a woman with the cold-blooded boss of theirs, he quickly regained his composure.

"Sir! Jack has finally arrived and is not resting within the car."

At this time, Jack opened the door and walked out of the police car, and gave a strange look at Merlin.

'Could it be that boss~'

He suddenly imagined 14,000,605 scenarios between the cold-hearted boss, and that slightly fierce looking woman. The personalities of the two did overlap in places, and so many of those scenarios led to a successful union between the two.

"Hey! Jack. You listening to me?"

Merlin's shout brought Jack back to the human world.

"All of you go and get all the supplies we had brought for the trip."

"Yes Sir!"

While the four people were hurrying to unload all the supplies they had collected, Merlin had set down Alice, whose face was now as red as a tomato.

"So, why do you want to meet the person who looks like you? Do you want to kill her?"

"Huh? No! She is my sister! Why would you even think that!?"

"Oh… Ok then. I am going somewhere else right now. You return to base along with those two officers."

"Ok"

"Sir!"

Max cam in front of Merlin and saluted as he would to a superior officer. Although no one like to undermined by someone, a lot of factors forced him to be this demeaning in front of Merlin. The biggest one was the soul contract Merlin had with Max, and the other leaders. Another factor was the way Merlin spoke.

Before the Apocalypse began, the training to become a police officer was incredibly strict. Especially due to the war between countries began in the year 2025. It had been 12 years since that war began, and anyone wanting to remain in the police force, or wanted to join it, had to go through a 2 year long military training regime, to train both one's body and mind.

By the end of it, each and every officer's body would instinctively react to someone speaking to them with a tone similar to the drill sergeant's own. And the way Merlin spoke was just like that, bringing out uncomfortable memories for them all.

The last factor was Merlin's overwhelming strength. How could he disobey someone whom was strong enough to dodge bullets, and moves faster than the eye can see. Trying to fight Merlin is like trying to kill superman without kryptonite!

Seeing the pile of supplies, Merlin walked up to it. Extending his hand, he pushed out his mana to completely envelope the supplies.

He had gotten a few benefits from the Merchant for the Deal of Treasures as well. He had gotten a special treasure as well. Although it's quality was not the best, it could be considered close to the best. I not only had a space of 12 cubic metres inside, but it also had the function of recognizing the owner's mana fluctuations. He had also gotten a Tier 1 elemental armour with the effect of boosting vitality, toughness, and mana regeneration.

He had decided to ditch the car, since he could move a lot faster and more silently. And since it was going back, he would send Alice along with the other 2 dead weights back to base. Although the two officers were useful for driving around, they weren't of much help currently, and would only hold them back. Once the tutorial ended, he could make them all grind levels and grow stronger.

For now, he used his mana to lift up the materials and send them into the internal space of the special treasure around his neck. Although Merlin liked how special rings looked, they were extremely impractical for close-quarters. Why, because is Merlin punched a strong enemy, or a wall, the ring could easily break. In his last life, he was an elementalist, and therefore could use special rings. But until he became Tier 3, Merlin would prefer Space Amulets instead of spatial rings.

As the scene of the supplies vanishing into the boss' chest occurred, everyone was momentarily stunned, but soon labelled it as one of the boss' abilities and continued their work.

"Alright then, you two will take Ms. Alice back to base and help her find her twin sister."

"Yes sir!"

"Jack, and Max, come with me. We will be going slightly slowly to allow Max to grind levels. Jack… Just come stand next to me."

When Jack reached 1 metre's distance away, Merlin activated a combination Tier 1 spell. What was a combination spell? It was a spell which was as difficult to master as a spell of a higher Tier. The only reason such spells existed was because some people could not progress from certain Tiers, and so decided to experiment with different types.

Combination spells were simply put spells with multiple elements. However, they weren't as simple as combining 2 elements, like earth and fire to create lava magic. Combination magic consisted of an elementalist using multiple elements in different ways to produce different results.

For example, Merlin was currently using combination magic to create a levitating platform. He used Earth magic to solidify the earth around him and broke it off from the ground. Next he used wind magic to push the platform into the air, and continuously using Earth magic to keep it up and move it forward. He only lifted it around 2 meters above the ground, since lifting it any higher would exhaust his mana faster than he could replenish it.

He was doing this only to improve his body's tolerance to more complex spells which he would need to use in combat. This spell used a lot of his mana to keep up, but if concentrated slightly on practicing the mage law set, he should be able to equalise both the regeneration, and the usage, thanks to the Elemental armour.

He sat down cross-legged and began reciting the law set in his mind, while Max was killing zombies, Jack was also meditating using his own fir mage law set, and Foveros was trying to crawl out of Merlin's hoodie.
