Reincarnation: Yukino Yukinoshita Is My Childhood Sweetheart

Chapter 16: Is she flirting with me?

Haru's idea really was a spur-of-the-moment inspiration.

When Kasumigaoka Utaha paid an unexpected visit, he realized this senior of his was another remarkable young woman. That realization set him thinking: how could he teach while subtly capturing her attention?

It didn't take long for him to conclude that someone capable of writing bestselling novels must have a sharp sense for storytelling.

Now, his assumption was proving correct.

Even Yui Hirasawa and the others finally understood. The way Utaha and Yukino kept probing felt like watching a comedy breakdown video where someone explained every punchline.

Amamiya-san is amazing! He actually predicted I'd be nervous and came up with a plan to let me act naturally, Yui thought, her eyes sparkling.

The shock Haru gave her this time was no less intense than their last encounter.

In her eyes, he had seemingly crafted an entire story framework tailored to her in a split second.

This not only spared her from the embarrassment of a subpar performance but also considered her feelings as a girl.

Maybe... A stray thought flitted through Yui's mind, but a quick glance at Yukino's calm demeanor made her suppress it.

Haru, however, wasn't stopping there.

After answering their questions, he waved at Yukino. "Your turn."

Yukino rose to her feet, asking, "Should I just repeat what Yui did?"

"You could, or you can pick up a book after sitting down—or do something else entirely," Haru replied after a moment's thought.

Yukino nodded, understanding. "A complete shot, right? Got it."

Hashimoto still manned the lighting.

When Haru signaled to start, Yukino moved deliberately into the frame.

Unlike Yui's earlier nervousness, she exuded poise and confidence.

With every step, her long hair swayed gently, as if showcasing her grace to the audience.

After taking a seat, she casually picked up a book and opened it.

A few seconds later, she set it down, her beautiful eyes glinting with a hint of worry.

Everyone noticed the subtle shift in her emotions.

Utaha instinctively glanced at Haru and found him smiling—a satisfied smile.

But why?

She couldn't figure it out.

Neither could Yui or the others.

"It's good," Haru announced.

Yukino looked at him, her tone neutral. "Satisfied?"

"Satisfied," Haru replied with a grin.

Yukino gave a slight nod, as if she hadn't done anything of significance.

Their cryptic exchange left Yui hesitating for a moment before she decided to ask.

"Um, could you explain? What was so special about that shot?"

Utaha straightened her posture, clearly eager to hear his answer.

Haru pointed at Yukino. "Yui, are you asking why Yukino was so composed, unlike you earlier?"

Yui nodded eagerly, her curiosity evident.

Perhaps in a good mood, Yukino spoke up before Haru could answer.

"Haru already mentioned that he has a story framework in mind. He also said the girl in the shot isn't from this era."

Yui looked utterly lost.

Utaha, however, caught on and chimed in. "You mean Yui's earlier nervousness was intentional, fitting Amamiya's story design. It reflects her being in this setting for the first time, hence her anxiety."

Then, she turned to Yukino, studying her expression.

"But the girl can't always remain anxious. Your calmness in the shot suggests this was her second or third visit, as time helps people adapt."

Seeing Utaha's growing enthusiasm, Haru asked, "Did you notice anything else, Senpai?"

She blinked in mild surprise. "There's more?"

Haru nodded.

"Yukino's final look of concern represents the girl's internal struggle. She isn't from this era, yet she finds herself here. She worries whether she'll vanish someday or face unexpected dangers."

Utaha froze, her expression clearly showing astonishment.

She turned to Yukino, who remained composed.

"Don't be too surprised, Senpai," Yukino said calmly. "I've known Haru for many years and have read his previous scripts. That's why I can immediately understand his intentions."

"I see..." Utaha murmured, her tone subtly conflicted.

A mixture of emotions swirled within her: surprise at underestimating Yukino and relief upon realizing Yukino's insight came from years of familiarity with Haru.

Still, it sparked her competitive spirit.

As a senior, and especially in a field she loved, she couldn't accept being outshone by a junior.

More importantly, Utaha wasn't just intelligent and talented—she was perceptive.

She caught the underlying message in Yukino's words: No one understands him better than I do.

It wasn't just a reminder.

It was a hidden declaration of victory.

[You are teaching, (Teaching) XP +95.]

The XP notification floated in Haru's vision once more.

He glanced at Utaha, who had fallen silent in thought, and smiled with satisfaction.

Today's Progress

Yui and the others had finally unraveled the intricacies behind Haru's explanation, but their newfound understanding led to fresh questions.

"Amamiya-san, what exactly do you mean by 'not from this era'?" Yui asked expectantly, her eyes full of curiosity.

As her words fell, not only Yukino but also Utaha raised their heads, their attention fixed on him.

Clearly, his storytelling had piqued everyone's interest.

"To put it simply, it's a heartwarming story" Haru replied with a calm smile.

"Heartwarming?"

The girls looked puzzled.

Judging from the earlier scene and explanation, it seemed more like the setup for a horror story.

After all, it involved someone not from this era.

Haru noticed their expressions and elaborated:

"In my idea, it's a touching story. The girl who isn't from this era was actually the heroine's childhood best friend. However, the she tragically passed away at a young age.

"Since then, the heroine has been riddled with guilt and hasn't been living well. The deceased friend, initially existing only as a spirit silently watching over her, suddenly gains the ability to communicate with the heroine one day.

"And their communication starts through the heroine's diary."

"A miracle where a worried friend crosses the boundary of life and death to encourage the one they care about?!" Yui exclaimed in sudden realization.

Utaha raised an eyebrow, her voice tinged with curiosity. "This story isn't going to end with a twist, is it?"

Haru chuckled. "Impressive, Senpai. You figured it out already."

Yui froze, muttering softly, "I don't like sad twists... Wasn't it supposed to be heartwarming story?"

Utaha let out a soft laugh. "I, on the other hand, enjoy where heartwarming story comes with a twist."

Her eyes gleamed with anticipation as she looked at Haru.

"You absolutely must write this story," she said, her tone unwavering.

"I will," Haru replied with a nod. "I've been thinking—if I want the Photography Club to improve quickly, we might as well shoot an experimental short film. This story came to mind, and it fits the bill perfectly."

Hearing his response, Utaha's eyes lit up.

She smiled naturally, her crimson lips parting slightly.

"I'm looking forward to it, Amamiya-kun."

Haru paused briefly, stunned. Is she flirting with me?

Meanwhile, Yukino frowned slightly as she observed the interaction.

Her reaction wasn't out of concern for Utah's attitude toward Haru.

She'd long known that her childhood friend had an effortless charm that attracted girls.

What bothered her was Utaha's sharp instincts in this domain.

It seems my assumption was correct. Not only does she possess outstanding looks, but she also hides talents that most people wouldn't notice.

Yukino's expression turned cold.

To fully understand her opponent, she'd need to delve into every detail—like a modern-day Leeuwenhoek.
