Chapter 69: A New Home [69]
Smallville
The hum of Clark's pickup truck broke the morning silence as he drove along the dirt road. The engine purred softly, signaling their arrival at the property. Diana, seated beside him, took in the pastoral scenery—lush fields and a clear sky. The tranquility stood in stark contrast to the recent events in their lives.
"Clark, this place is truly beautiful," Diana remarked, leaning slightly toward the window. "It's exactly the kind of retreat you mentioned."
Clark smiled, keeping his eyes on the road. "I knew you'd like it. This house will be more than a retreat, Diana. It'll be a home, something we can build together."
The truck's tires came to a halt in front of the house, kicking up a small cloud of dust. David stood at the entrance, holding a set of keys in his hand, his wife beside him, her expression a mix of nostalgia and hesitation.
"David," Clark called as he exited the truck. "Good morning. Is everything ready?"
David stepped forward, extending the keys to Clark. "Yes, Clark. Here they are. This house has been in my family for years, so I hope you'll take good care of it. There are many memories here."
Clark accepted the keys with care, his expression sincere. "I understand, David. I promise to care for it as if it were always mine. And I hope you have a good life in Metropolis. Being close to family is what matters."
David nodded, sighing as he glanced at the house one last time. "That's what we hope for. Still, it's hard to say goodbye." He looked at his wife, who was holding back tears. "Well, time to go."
David's wife approached Diana, offering a timid smile. "I hope you find the same happiness here that we found over the years."
Diana returned the smile, gently touching the woman's shoulder. "Thank you. I'm sure we'll honor this place's history."
The couple got into their car, and the sound of the engine faded into the distance. Clark stood in silence for a moment, watching the empty road, before turning to Diana.
"Ready to go in?" he asked with a smile.
Diana nodded, crossing her arms. "Let's see what this place has to offer."
Clark unlocked the door, pushing it open carefully. The creak of the hinges echoed in the main room, partially illuminated by natural light streaming through the windows. A few old pieces of furniture were scattered about—a worn armchair, a coffee table marked by time, and partially empty shelves.
"Looks like they left some things behind," Diana observed, walking slowly through the room and touching a dusty shelf. "Nothing you can't replace."
Clark glanced around, assessing the space. "I'll buy new furniture soon. I want this place to be comfortable for both of us."
Diana stopped by a window, gazing out at the fields. "No need to rush, Clark. This place already has something special. We can take our time to make it what we want."
Clark joined her, looking out at the same horizon. "You're right. We'll do this our way, in our own time."
Diana turned to him, a slight smile playing on her lips. "So, where do we start?"
Clark chuckled softly, jingling the keys in his hand. "How about we explore every corner before deciding? This house has its stories, and I think we can create our own."

Kent Farm
Jonathan and Martha arrived at the farm, exuding relief and happiness as they stepped out of the car. Martha held a small bag containing some papers and test results, while Jonathan opened the house door.
"It was a good day, wasn't it, Jonathan?" Martha said with a smile. "Knowing that everything is fine with the baby and me... I couldn't be happier."
Jonathan smiled as he sat in the living room armchair. "It was great, Martha. And I must say, that doctor seemed as excited about the news as we are. It's rare to see someone with so much enthusiasm."
Martha laughed softly, placing the bag on the table. "Well, Jonathan, in a small town like this, any news is a big event. And a pregnancy at our age certainly gives people something to talk about."
Jonathan nodded. "That's true. But you know how loved we are here. If the whole town finds out, we'll only receive more support and affection."
Martha picked up the phone and began dialing. "I don't mind them knowing, Jonathan. I wouldn't hide it anyway. I want to call Clark and share the news."
.....
Clark's House
Clark was in the living room, examining the furniture and mentally listing what needed replacing. Diana had decided to take a shower after exploring the house. The sound of the phone pulled him from his thoughts.
Ring!
Clark quickly answered, recognizing Martha's number. "Hi, Mom. How are you?"
Martha's voice was filled with enthusiasm. "Clark, I just wanted to let you know that everything is great! The doctor said both the baby and I are in perfect health. It was such a relief to hear that."
Clark smiled, sitting in the armchair. "That's amazing, Mom. I'm so happy for you."
Martha continued, her voice brimming with excitement. "And guess what? The doctor was as thrilled as we are. She said it's rare to see such a healthy pregnancy at my age. Jonathan even commented on it."
Clark laughed. "Well, that doesn't surprise me. You've always been a strong woman, Mom. Oh, I have some news for you too. I bought a house."
Martha was silent for a moment, clearly surprised. "You bought a house? Where?"
Clark explained. "On the outskirts of Smallville. It's a quiet place with plenty of space. And guess what? I bought it from David and his wife."
Martha exclaimed in surprise. "David sold that house? They've lived there for so long. But I'm happy for you, Clark. I've always thought that house was very beautiful. Congratulations."
Clark thanked her, listening as his mother continued to talk about plans for the baby and their excitement for the future. As he hung up, he looked around the new house, feeling more determined than ever to build something special there.

Lionel's Office
Lionel Luthor sat in his leather chair, his gaze fixed on a document as he gently swirled a glass of whiskey in his hand. The sound of his cell phone interrupted the silence of the office.
TRRRIIM!
TRRRIIM!
"Lionel Luthor speaking," he answered firmly.
"Mr. Luthor, this is Edward Blackwell, Lex's attorney. I need to inform you that I've finalized the documentation regarding the purchase of a property in Smallville for a friend of his," the lawyer said cautiously.
"Blackwell," Lionel replied, an evident sigh of irritation in his voice, "if this is yet another irrelevant detail about Lex's whims, I'm about to hang up. I hope you have something more substantial."
"Actually, sir, there's another matter," Blackwell hesitated. "Lex is drafting a prenuptial agreement. He wants to transfer all his assets to his fiancée's name."
Lionel raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Lex's marriage doesn't concern me. But transferring his assets to a woman he's just met? That's alarming. Pretend you're following his orders. I'll go to Smallville to investigate this personally."
"Yes, sir," Blackwell responded, clearly relieved. "I'll do exactly as you said."
Lionel ended the call, finishing his whiskey in a single gulp. He stood up, adjusting his suit with precise movements, and left the office with determined steps.
...
Clark's House
Clark was sitting in the living room, finalizing the details about the new furniture he intended to buy for his house. Diana was walking around the room, exploring the environment with interest. The sound of an approaching car caught his attention.
"Clark, it seems we have visitors," Diana commented, looking out the window as a car stopped in front of the house.
Clark stood up calmly, opening the door before anyone could knock. Tina got out of the car with a radiant smile, carrying a small suitcase.
"Clark!" Tina exclaimed, running to greet him. "I finally arrived! You have no idea how excited I am to help you."
Clark returned the warm smile. "Tina, I'm glad you came. Come in; I want to introduce you to someone."
Tina entered, looking around with admiration. Her eyes sparkled as she observed the details of the house. Clark gestured toward Diana, who stood with a curious posture.
"Diana, this is Tina, a longtime friend of mine. Tina, this is Diana," Clark introduced casually.
Diana extended her hand politely, but her gaze was inquisitive. "Pleasure to meet you, Tina. Clark has spoken a lot about you."
Tina shook Diana's hand, still smiling. "The pleasure is mine. Clark has always been my best friend, and I'm very happy to help him."
Clark watched the two interact for a moment before intervening. "Tina, I want you and Diana to get to know each other better. I'm sure you'll get along very well."
Diana crossed her arms, tilting her head slightly. "Clark mentioned that you have... unique abilities. He didn't go into details but left me curious."
Tina looked at Clark, seeking permission with her eyes. Clark nodded. "It's okay, Tina. Show her."
Tina closed her eyes for a moment, and when she opened them again, her body began to transform. In a matter of seconds, she was the exact replica of Diana, from facial features to voice.
"Surprised?" Tina said, now identical to Diana, with a playful tone.
Diana took a step back, clearly surprised, but quickly composed herself. "Impressive. So that's what Clark meant by special abilities. You can really transform into anyone?"
Tina smiled, returning to her original form. "Yes, it's something I've been able to do since I was a child."
Clark intervened, crossing his arms as he looked at both. "Tina is trustworthy, Diana. And her abilities can be extremely useful. I hope you two can work together."
Diana nodded slowly, looking at Tina with more respect. "Understood. It seems you've brought a valuable ally, Clark."
Tina smiled shyly. "I'll do my best not to disappoint you."
Clark placed a hand on Tina's shoulder, indicating she could explore the house. "Make yourself at home, Tina."
Tina went off to explore the rooms, while Diana turned to Clark. "You really know how to choose your friends, Clark."
Clark gave a slight smile.
