Chapter 34: Chapter 25Visiting Ra through Jumpgate (edited)
Merlin and Horus exchanged weary glances, their sighs. Despite the urgency of their mission, they took a moment to gather themselves.
"We'll need to move," Horus said, his voice steady but edged with caution. " When Mnevis reports, Set won't waste time."
Merlin nodded, his grip tightening on the staff in his hand. "Then let's not give him the chance to catch us here."
The two approached the towering gate, its divine structure humming faintly with energy. With a shared glance, they stepped forward. The gate reacted immediately, swirling with radiant light. As they crossed its threshold, a translucent golden bubble materialized around them, enclosing them in a protective sphere of shimmering energy.
The bubble lifted off the ground, levitating with a graceful motion before accelerating upward. It carried them higher and higher, leaving the mountain peak and Ra's Solar Barge far below.
As they ascended, the air grew thin and crisp, stars becoming visible in the twilight sky. The world below was a patchwork of darkened landmasses and glimmering rivers. They pierced the cloud cover, entering the stratosphere.
Above, through a break in the swirling clouds, an awe-inspiring sight emerged.
Ra's Solar Barge.
This is the Solar Barge, it is a massive, ornate vessel that serves as both a divine chariot and a weapon of celestial might. Its design is a blend of ancient Egyptian aesthetics and futuristic, otherworldly technology, creating an awe-inspiring and regal presence.
The barge has a long, sleek form with curved, sweeping lines reminiscent of traditional Egyptian boats. It appears to float seamlessly in space, glowing with an intense, radiant energy.
At the core of the vessel is a towering structure resembling a temple and a throne. It is intricately designed with golden embellishments, symbolic carvings, and hieroglyphs, showing its divine origins. The central temple-like tower exudes authority, appearing as the command seat of Ra himself.
The barge is primarily golden, radiating brilliance and power. The polished gold surface is complemented by intricate detailing, giving the impression of a sacred artifact crafted by gods. Energy flows throughout the structure, represented by fiery orange and red hues, signifying its connection to the sun and raw cosmic energy.
Fiery, glowing streams of solar energy ripple across and around the barge, creating trails of golden fire that pulse with divine power.
The sides of the barge are adorned with large, blade-like wings that curve outward. These wings are semi-transparent, resembling both sails and celestial fins. They shimmer faintly, as though imbued with light and energy, and add to the barge's ethereal beauty.
The Solar Barge glides effortlessly, propelled by divine energy rather than traditional means. Trails of golden flames follow its path, creating an impression of immense speed and grace. The barge seems to defy gravity and space itself, a testament to its godly origin.
Suspended at the edge of space, the vessel was a masterpiece of celestial engineering, blending ancient Egyptian artistry with otherworldly technology. Its sleek, elongated form bore curved, sweeping lines reminiscent of the Nile's timeless ships, but on a scale and grandeur beyond mortal comprehension.
The entire barge radiated an intense, golden brilliance, its surface polished to a mirror-like sheen that reflected the light of nearby stars. Intricate hieroglyphs and symbolic carvings adorned every inch of its hull, their patterns glowing faintly with fiery orange and red hues. These glowing channels pulsed rhythmically, as though the barge itself breathed with the energy of the sun.
At the heart of the vessel stood a towering temple-like structure, crowned with a grand throne that exuded authority and power. The golden spires of the central tower pierced the heavens, their edges etched with celestial runes and divine glyphs. This sacred command seat was unmistakably the domain of Ra, Lord of the Cosmos. It was from here that he orchestrated his eternal battle against chaos.
The barge's sides were adorned with massive, blade-like wings that curved outward in an elegant, sweeping arc. These semi-transparent appendages shimmered with a faint, otherworldly light, their edges rippling as if alive. Part sail, part celestial fin, they seemed to harness the very fabric of the cosmos, propelling the barge with effortless grace.
Streams of fiery, golden energy rippled across and around the barge, forming ethereal trails of light that lingered in its wake. These radiant flares danced like solar winds, illuminating the surrounding void and marking the vessel's passage through the heavens.
The barge moved with a regal elegance, gliding seamlessly through the vacuum of space as though gravity and physical laws held no sway over it. Every motion was a display of controlled power, a reminder of its divine origins.
Merlin's breath caught in his throat as he took in the sight, his eyes tracing the intricate details and shimmering energy that coursed through the colossal ship.
"This..." he whispered, his voice tinged with awe. "This is no mere vessel. It's a weapon. A god's chariot."
Horus, standing tall beside him, spoke with reverence."It is the Solar Barge, crafted by the gods to traverse the cosmos and maintain balance in the realms. It carries Ra's light and will, a testament to his eternal vigilance."
Merlin nodded, he was becoming more curious about the creator of Egyptian Pantheon.
Horus and Merlin landed softly on the deck of the Solar Barge, the translucent sphere of golden energy that had carried them dissipating like morning mist.
The deck was otherworldly, lined with golden panels etched with divine hieroglyphs that shimmered faintly under an ethereal glow. In the center of the ship sat a figure who commanded instant respect.
Ra, the Lord of the Cosmos, worked with calm precision, his sinewy hands guiding the grindstone against the edge of his divine spear. Sparks leapt and danced from the blade as he sharpened it, the sound slicing through the stillness like a herald of battles to come. His weathered face, lined with deep wrinkles that marked the weight of millennia, bore the dignity and authority of a god. His bald head, save for the ponytail trailing down his back, reflected the golden light, while a simple yet regal robe draped over his powerful frame. Around his neck, a wide black collar adorned with intricate carvings hinted at both his heritage and unyielding might.
Ra did not look up as Horus dropped to one knee, bowing deeply. "Hail, thou Great God Ra."
Ra's voice rumbled, sharp and laced with disdain."Normally, when a bird lands on my boat uninvited, I kill it before it can shit."
His piercing gaze flicked to Merlin, and his expression darkened." What is this? Do you dare to bring a mortal to my creation?"
Horus glanced at Merlin, then back at his grandfather."He is a valuable friend and ally."
Horus added."Forgive me, grandfather. I would only ask—"
Ra's grinding stopped abruptly, he removed the hood of his cloak and his sharp eyes locking onto Horus and cut him off with a biting tone."In that case, let me stop everything I'm doing and heed your bidding."
Horus said."I mean no disrespect—"
Ra rose from his seat, his presence filling the deck like the rising sun."You don't even know the difference."
His eyes turned to Merlin, scrutinizing him with an intensity that seemed to strip away all pretense."You. Are you the sorcerer who defeated the Puppet of the Greek God of War."
Merlin nodded, his voice calm yet firm."I am. My name is Merlin."
A flicker of appreciation crossed Ra's face, but the moment was fleeting. Just as he opened his mouth to speak further, his keen eyes shifted to the horizon. Shadows boiled and writhed in the distance, a storm of darkness brewing.
Ra ordered."Sit and be silent. I have work to do."
Without hesitation, Ra activated his divine form. His body erupted in golden flames that shimmered with the intensity of a sun. His black collar transformed into a glowing golden piece, etched with pulsing hieroglyphs. His headdress, now adorned with cosmic symbols and a blazing red gemstone, crowned his radiant figure. His chest gleamed with a celestial armor, every detail radiating power.
Ra strode to the control station, his movements swift and purposeful. He cranked a massive winch with ease, the ancient mechanisms groaning as the Solar Barge passed into the night. A chill wind tore through the sails, and Horus's knees trembled as dread seeped into his bones.
Merlin created the strongest barrier to protect himself.
From the abyss, a monstrous form began to uncoil—a shadow larger than the ship itself. Apophis, the Demon of Chaos, rose like a thunderhead. His semi-corporeal body, a swirling mass of black smoke and obsidian shards, radiated volcanic energy. Fiery cracks ran across his shifting form, pulsing like a heartbeat.
Ra stepped to the bow of the ship, his spear gleaming with cosmic fire."Crawl back to the shadows, you stinking worm!"
Apophis roared, the sound splitting the heavens as his immense form coiled around the ship. His gaping maw, lined with jagged, glowing teeth, opened wide, ready to consume the Solar Barge.
Apophis's roar unleashed a cataclysmic shockwave, an invisible force of raw chaos that tore through the heavens. The air itself seemed to ripple with its power, distorting the golden glow of Ra's Solar Barge.
Horus was hurled backward, his hands partially transformed and his taloaned hands gripped into the one of the pillars desperately, as he fought against the chaotic winds and crushing pressure. Each breath felt like a battle as the force of Apophis's assault bore down upon him.
"Hold...on..." he growled through gritted teeth, his divine blood igniting with defiance even as his body strained against the assault.
Merlin, too, was driven to his knees by the sheer force of the serpent's pressue. His glowing barrier, a shimmering wall of tessellated hexagons, buckled and cracked under the onslaught. The sound of splintering energy echoed around him, each fissure in the shield radiating with flickers of unstable magic.
Sweat beaded on his brow as he stretched his hands forward, his fingers crackling with raw power. "Not... yet!" he hissed, channeling his strength. The cracks in the barrier flared briefly before mending, the magical shield surging back to full strength with a burst of dazzling light.
Ra stood unmoved, his spear blazing with solar fire. He hurled bolts of divine flames, each strike lighting the darkness like a newborn sun. Apophis's body recoiled, smoke and embers trailing from the wounds.
The serpent's massive head lunged forward, jaws wide enough to swallow the ship whole.
Ra extends his hand forward, and a glowing orb of golden-orange energy begins forming in his palm. The orb pulsates with an intense light, its surface resembling molten lava with fiery streaks constantly shifting and flaring outwards.
The Sun emits a radiant glow that bathes the surrounding area in warm, golden light, casting long, dramatic shadows. Heatwaves distort the air around it, creating ripples and shimmering effects.
The Sun's formation is accompanied by a low, resonant hum that grows louder as it gains power, punctuated by sharp crackles of fiery energy arcing off its surface.
As Ra channels more power, the miniature Sun grows larger and brighter, its surface becoming more dynamic with swirling molten patterns and bursts of flame-like tendrils shooting outward.
Sparks of energy spiral around Ra's arm, feeding into the orb as its heat intensifies, causing the ground beneath him to glow faintly red, cracking from the sheer power radiating from the Sun.
A halo of golden light forms behind Ra, symbolizing his divine energy and reinforcing his celestial authority.
With a commanding gesture, Ra hurls the miniature Sun toward Apophis, the orb streaking through the air like a fiery comet. The Sun leaves behind a blazing trail of golden fire, and the sound of its launch is a deep, thunderous boom followed by a fiery roar.
As it travels, the Sun's glow intensifies, casting harsh, flickering light across the battlefield and illuminating the serpentine form of Apophis as it closes in.
Impact on Apophis:
The Sun collides with Apophis in a cataclysmic explosion of fiery light and heat. The impact unleashes a massive shockwave, radiating golden flames and glowing embers in all directions.
Apophis screeches in pain, his serpentine form writhing as golden flames envelop him, scorching his dark, shadowy scales. The flames seem alive, clinging to him and consuming his essence.
The sound of the impact is deafening—a mixture of roaring fire, a deep explosion, and the anguished screams of Apophis.
The clash shook the firmament itself, the sky torn between golden light and abyssal darkness. Ra's voice boomed as he drove his spear into the retreating serpent one last time."Back to the abyss, where you belong!"
With a final, fiery strike, Apophis shrank back into the black sea, his roars fading into silence.
Ra lowered his spear, his blazing form still glowing with power as he turned to Horus and Merlin.
