Chapter 4: Finally Getting Something
STELLA'S POV—
*Grumble* I am walking for almost one hour and I haven't yet found a food place. I am hungry. Suddenly, I spotted a small restaurant. It was bustling with life. I walked towards it and took a seat.
A waiter came and stood beside me. He asked, "Hello Mam! Good morning, what would you like to order?"
I asked, "Do you have pancakes?"
The waiter replied, "Yes, we have pancakes. What type—"
I interrupted, "Stop! Just give me 3 normal pancakes."
The waiter bowed and said, "As you wish, Mam. I will be with your order shortly." Saying this, he went to get my order.
Now, the question that is constantly bombarding my mind is, where should I go? Should I find Nick Fury? No, it's better if he finds me instead. Also, Steve... Stella was... er, is Captain America. Shouldn't she... er, I be famous? Why didn't anyone seem to recognize me?
The waiter came with my order and put it in my table. "Here's your order Mam, enjoy it to its fullest," said the waiter.
"Thank you. But can I ask you something?"
"Yes, please."
I rubbed my nose and waved my hand across me. Watching me do this, he tilted his head in confusion. I pointed my hand at me. Unsure of what I was doing, he asked, "Mam?"
"Don't you seem to know me?"
He smiled apologetically and said, "Sorry Mam, I don't know you. Have we met before?"
"You know Captain America, don't you?" I asked again.
Shaking his head, he said, "I don't know about any Captain America, Mam. Although, I do know about Captain Carter."
Captain Carter? What? I was shocked. Captain Carter, that means in this world Peggy Carter has taken the super soldier serum. Then, who am I? That means all my assumptions were wrong.
No, the HYDRA soldiers knew who I am. The people who I had fought with were from the HYDRA and, they knew who I was. So, what's up with this discrepancy of the data here?
It's like I have been omitted from the history. According to the movie, I should have been in the Times Square, where I would have met Nick Fury. But now I am in Midtown East, though it's near the Times Square.
I should go to there; I was hoping that Nick Fury would find me. Instead, now I have to find him myself.
"Anything else, Mam?" asked the waiter, breaking my thought process. I asked, "Can you tell me where I can find some information about this Captain Carter?"
"It seems that you are new here," I nodded my head to confirm his words, "I am not a hardcore fan of her but, there are many who are a die-hard fan of hers. So, be careful in front of them. As for the part, you can find information about her at any book store."
I nodded and said, "Thank you and here's the money." I handed him money and started to gobble up my food. He took the money and went to take orders of the other customers.
I quickly ate all of my food and started my quest to find a book store. After walking for 10 minutes, I found a book store.
Entering into the store, I found an old woman sitting on the counter. She was reading a book.
I asked, "Good morning. I can find a book about Captain Carter here."
She closed her book and looked at me. She scoffed, "Are you also here to read a book about her?"
Confused, I asked, "What do you mean also? Did someone come here before me?"
Laughing at my words, she said, "What 'someone?' Every day, I have countless people who always ask me about a book on her. I will tell you the same thing what I have told them. There," she pointed to a book shelf, "take it and read it."
I could feel that she was mocking me. I walked straight to the shelf and saw that this whole, I mean this whole fucking shelf is dedicated to her. Sighing, I took out a book. The title said— Captain Carter and Her Adventures. Ignoring the weird design, I opened the book. What I saw, shocked me completely.
According to this fucking book, Captain Carter, I mean, Peggy Carter defeated the Red Skull. The book said, 'Captain Carter A.K.A Margaret Peggy Carter is world's true hero. She has defeated Red Skull, which caused the World War 2 to end. She has fought and emerged victorious in countless wars. Her bravery and honesty are what inspires today's generation. She has a strength to—'
I quickly moved through the rest of the pages. There was not even a single mention of Stella or, Captain America in here.
Fuck it! I closed the book with a thud and put it back in the shelf. I don't care about comics or movies but, one thing I know is that Peggy Carter can't measure up to Steve. Even if she is stronger than him, she can't defeat him. The Serum was not what made the Captain America, no, Steve was the person who made it special. I can't measure up to Steve, neither anyone on this world, nor anyone back in my world.
I am not going to lie but, I was a huge marvel fan back in my previous life. And Captain America was my favourite. After becoming a physically disabled person, movies and comics were my pass time. I always felt some connection with him. He and I were similar but, at the same time we were different, very different. He was someone who believed in peace. His determination, resolve, and the ability to stand for the weak even though, how much stronger his enemy is, what made him. Without Steve, there is no Captain America but, without Captain America, there is Steve and always will be. No one can change that fact.
I have two choices. One, I can hide like a coward and live my life. Second, I can find out what happened and give justice to both my predecessor and my perception of Steve. And I, chose the latter.
Although, one thing was certain that, S... I have been omitted from the books. Thinking that, I left the store.
