Chapter 29: Under fire.
The car took a sharp turn and Ethan's body also swayed. At that moment, he heard a sound in his pants pocket. He pulled out his cell phone and saw a concise text message from Hood.
—help
Ethan did not reply to the message. He put the phone back in his pocket and checked the AK74 rifle in his hand.
As the vehicle progressed rapidly, Ethan's ears moved. He could vaguely hear the intense shots coming from outside. Ethan also stopped suddenly and nodded at the men inside
Burton put his hand on the door handle and pulled hard. The moment the car door opened, several people in the car quickly got out.
Where they are now is right next to the Miles restaurant.
The exterior glass of the Banshee Town police station exploded into bright fragments under the impact of an explosion. Cadillac's sign, which hung crooked, creaked and crumbled, as the police station door opened wide, revealing the interior in frantic chaos.
Ethan quickly advanced towards the building, holding the AK74 firmly. His determined step resonated as he got closer, closely followed by Burton and the rest of the team, who were moving accurately.
Inside the police station, the shots rumbled in the air with increasing intensity. The combination of bursts of automatic weapons and the occasional shots created a chaotic symphony of roars and explosions.
A group of men dressed in black formed a semicircle inside, with their M4A1s pointing at a concrete pillar in front. Suddenly, one of them turned abruptly as he heard footsteps approaching. His movement was quick, but the surprise left him momentarily disoriented.
Ethan, with a determined expression on his face, stepped forward with agility. Without hesitation, he fired accurately, his AK74 emitting rhythmic bursts. Each shot was an explosion of light in the dim light, and the sharp sound of the bullets was repeated in a constant pattern. The caps ejected from the weapon flew through the air, falling to the ground in a metallic rain.
Burton and the rest of the team closely followed, coordinated under Ethan's leadership. Ethan's AK74 spat tongues of fire with fury, illuminating the darkness with each shot. His movements were synchronized, a ballet of action and precision in the midst of chaos.
The men in black who besieged Hood staggered under the intense fire. Their bodies were shaking violently as if they were being electrocuted, and a shower of blood gushed up into the air, creating a scene of visceral terror.
With the charger empty, Ethan let out a deep sigh. He slowly lowered his mouth from the gun, his breathing stabilized as he watched the devastating result of his attack. The roar of the shots faded, giving way to a disturbing silence that enveloped the police station, the echo of the chaos still echoing in the air.
Several men dressed in black also fell at that time. Ethan carried the AK74 with one hand over his body, kicked the bullet casings off the ground, and walked to the concrete pillar across the street, while Burton and the others stood still.
—Hood, are you alright?
— Who is it? —Hood's nervous voice sounded.
—Don't get excited, it's me —Ethan said as he walked towards the concrete pillar, where Hood was slumped on the ground sweating profusely, holding a gun with an empty magazine in hand.
If you were a little late, it could help you collect the body directly.
Seeing Hood nervously looking at the AK rifle in his hand, Ethan recalled that he was still wearing a hood.
—Oh my gosh, it's you —Hood said, giving a sigh of relief, as he grabbed Ethan's hand and got up with help.
—I called you a moment ago, why didn't you listen?
—Rabbit was standing outside the police station at the time. How could I hear your call? —Hood said helplessly.
Ethan instantly extracted the keyword — Was Rabbit here?
—Yes, he said he wanted to see me one last time. After enjoying the joy of a successful hunt, he left these people behind.
—It is a pity that his joy lasted so little. Well, I've done what I promised, I'm leaving. You will have to deal with this disaster.
Ethan kicked the body next to him, then looked at the computer in his office that had been destroyed by anguish, took off his hood, and was about to leave.
—Wait a minute. Who are they.
Hood took Ethan's hand and looked at the hooded men who were standing not far away holding AK74.
—Proctor, I lend you a couple of men to get you out of this mess. Thanks to him, we were able to arrive in time to rescue you. Also, you owe him a favor.
Ethan slapped Hood on the back and left the police station carrying the AK.
Returning to where he started in the middle of the road, looking at the truck driving away, Ethan lit a cigarette and returned to his car. Proctor was stronger than he thought. He had many contacts in the city and was able to mobilize a team of skilled gunmen in a short period of time. Brock did not tear even the surface of Proctor's influence.
While sitting in the car, Ethan suddenly remembered something and called Hood.
This time the call was quickly connected. Before Hood could speak, Ethan quickly recalled — Have you informed Carrie that Rabbit has arrived in Banshee.
Damn, I forgot.
The call was immediately hung up and Ethan shook his head helplessly as he listened to the blind tone on the phone.
Driving towards Davis Bar, Sugar was cleaning the two-gun shotgun. Job kept writing on the computer, his fingers flying. When he saw Ethan appear, Job left what he was doing and quickly asked — How is the situation now?
Ethan approached Job and Sugar, explaining the situation clearly and directly.
"The police station was attacked by a group of men armed with M4A1," Ethan began. They entered hard, shooting everywhere. When we arrived, the door was open and the shooting was intense.
Sugar, with an expression of concern, asked:
- And Hood? What happened to him?
"Hood was ambushed at the police station," Ethan replied. Proctor gave us a couple of men and we managed to rescue him and stop the attack. But Rabbit had already escaped.
Job nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation.
- The police station was quite damaged, tomorrow there will be a great stir, and many questions.-concluded Ethan-
Knowing that Hood was fine, Job breathed a sigh of relief and then heard Rabbit appear. He secretly cursed and turned his head to the computer screen.
— What are you doing? —Ethan said while drinking Sugar's beer.
—I am trying to find where Rabbit settled. If I can locate it we will have the advantage.
— Maybe I can help you. I have lived here all my life. —Sugar asked suddenly interested, leaving the bar and putting his head together Job who was still submerged in his laptop.
—Hey villager, maybe you don't know what personal space.
Job complained and pushed Sugar's head.
—You just need to tell me what you think —Sugar said as he stepped back two helpless steps.
—I have hacked the city's traffic surveillance system and also the surveillance of the coexistence store. If I can get the surveillance video from the store I will be able to track their movements and determine the direction they took and determine their approximate location.
Job continued —If I can locate a certain area, I will reposition the CIA spy satellite to see the heat anomalies in place, but for now it is like looking for a needle in the haystack.
— CIA? Spy satellite? You can do it I say. — Sugar scratched his head and looked at Job in surprise —They won't catch you, will they?
— Fuck you !, never question my abilities.
Seeing that sitting here was useless, Ethan got up and drank all his beer in one gulp —I'm going home, let me know if you have any news.
Before he could get out the door, his cell phone rang.
—Ethan, where are you?
—Siobhan, I'm at Davis Bar, what can I do?
Siobhan shouted out loud — Something big happened, our our police station was attacked. It is a disaster, there are corpses everywhere.
—In addition, District Attorney Gordon's son has been kidnapped. Your vacation is over, come here fast.
Ethan sighed and hung up the phone helplessly.
—Carrie's son was kidnapped.
Job stood up and quickly asked — When did it happen?
—Right now, Job, now locating Rabbit, is your priority.
After leaving the Davis Bar, the Dodge Challenger accelerated all the way back to the police station. Several police cars were parked outside the police station, and their strobe lights turned the night sky outside the Banshee police station into a sea of red, blue, and white.
Ethan stopped the car and pretended to be surprised and yelled:
—Shit, what happened here.
Brock had already arrived at the scene and walked angrily towards Ethan with a packet of caution tape. Her face was rosy and she still smelled of perfume on her cheap body. It goes without saying that this old man must have gone to the strip club again.
Brock, after lifting the security tape, they both entered the police station together.
Ethan saw that the bodies had been removed, but everything inside was shattered, and even Brock's favorite coffee machine was in ruins.
— Does anyone know what happened? —Ethan asked.
Emmett shrugged and said helplessly:
—Brock and I just cleaned the bodies. We only know that someone suddenly attacked the police station. But they were killed by another group, apparently it was a confrontation in two rival groups.
—The FBI people are also here. The group that attacked our police station also kidnapped Gordon's son. Now the FBI, Sheriff, and Siobhan are all at Gordon's house.
After Brock toyed with the broken coffee machine, he sat helplessly at his desk. Unexpectedly, the smashed desk was overwhelmed and shattered the moment he leaned on it, causing Brock to fall to the ground.
Ethan quickly picked up the dishonored Brock, who was so angry that he jumped on his feet and cursed.
Emmett shook his head:
—First go to Gordon's house and help where you can. I'll be fine here.
Ethan nodded, slapped Brock on the shoulder, and left the police station.
The two arrived at Gordon's residence one after another, Dean Xavier, the FBI agent they met last time in the gym, and Hood was standing outside the house.
As soon as Ethan got out of the car, he heard Dean ask excitedly:
— What happened at the police station?
—I don't know either. He was on duty tonight, and suddenly a group of people ran and opened fire on the building. There was no notice of any kind.
— And then what? Did everyone commit suicide?
Hood continued innocently:
—Then another group of hooded men came, and killed them all.
—How can it be so simple. All the dead were armed with M4 for military use. They are not weapons that a lot of villagers can get.
Dean tugged on his tie and said angrily:
—Now it's about kidnapping, which is already under the jurisdiction of the FBI. If you have any leads, you should tell me.
—I really don't know. I don't know who those men were or who they can find by kidnapping the prosecutor's son.
—If I discover that you are hiding information, I will make a call to the judge and you will be relieved of your duties in an hour —Dean continued to shout.
—Go to hell, instead of worrying about me you should, worry about finding the Prosecutor's son.
— Do you think I don't care?
—Hey, you two, relax a little. The most important thing now is to find the boy first —Brock quickly pushed forward to separate them both.
After the two calmed down a bit, Brock released him.
FBI agent Dean Xavier looked at Hood and entered the house, and Brock quickly followed him.
— What happened? Didn't you warn Carrie?
Ethan slowed down and stayed behind, asking Hood quietly:
—It was too late. Just when they attacked me, Rabbit's men were kidnapping Max. Only Deva was there, but managed to escape —Hood said helplessly.
Ethan could only comfort him by saying:
—Job, he's looking for Rabbit's burrow, he couldn't go very far after the kidnapping. Roads are blocked.
As he entered the house, he saw Siobhan asking Deva for clues, Gordon walking back and forth anxiously, and Carrie sitting alone on the sofa, ununderstood, with tears running down her face.
—In an hour, call a sketch expert. I'm going to get a portrait of the boy's kidnapper. If there is no local one, I will send one by helicopter from Quantico.
After Dean finished explaining to the men next to him, he turned around and looked at the people waiting at the Banshee Town police station.
—Everyone listen to what I say. Now the FBI is officially in charge of the case. They must inform me of everything they know and if they have any indication, they will only inform me, understood.
—My team is on its way from Washington and all of you will help me until you arrive.
— Before that boy returns home, all of you must obey my orders. They understand?
After Dean Xavier said the last sentence, he approached Hood again and stared at him:
—I am very dissatisfied with your explanation of what happened at the police station. I better not find out you're hiding something Hood.
Hood kept his mouth shut and his eyes met Dean's without fear.
After the two of them were stuck for a while, Dean looked away and said:
— Why are you still here? Get moving, I want you to check every country road, every abandoned house, farm and stable in a 50 kilometer area, the reels are closed so you couldn't go very far.
Under the loud screams of Dean Xavier, Ethan and the others left one after the other.
It wasn't until after dawn that Ethan returned to Miles's restaurant, yawning.
After walking to her usual seat and sitting down, Daria had a large cup of coffee and put it in front of him.
—I heard what happened in the Gordon family. How is the situation now?
Ethan shook his head and said with a tired expression:
—There are no clues. I don't know where those people are hiding.
—I hope Max is fine, he's a good boy.
Seeing clients calling, Daria had no choice but to get up and leave.
After breakfast, they returned to the police station. The place had almost been clean and Siobhan and Brock were sleeping on the temporarily found tables and chairs.
—You guys should eat something first —Ethan put the coffee and sandwiches packed on the table, a gift from Daria.
—Thank God I really need a cup of coffee right now.
Brock quickly had a cup of coffee and said:
— Did you get something?
—No —Ethan sat down, took out a piece of sandwich and handed it to Siobhan. Siobhan forced a smile, grabbed the sandwich, and ate it.
While having breakfast, Hood and Emmett also hurriedly approached, holding a large pile of papers in Emmett's arms.
—The sketch is out. Take a look at it. We will publish it in various places in the city. We hope someone can give some clues.
Ethan handed the coffee to Hood and Emmett and took a sheet of paper. At the top it says Wanted by the FBI, child abduction. In the middle is a portrait drawn by the FBI sketch expert based on Deva's description. He has a horse face and an aquiline nose that makes people shudder just by looking at him.
He shook the paper and looked at Hood, who nodded. If before there was any doubt now it had completely dissipated, it was Rabbit.
