Reincarnated As Shiba Clan’s Heir! (Bleach-Gin)

Ch54- The Lunatic Blind

Kakyō watched the surprise flicker across Kazuki's face, her eyes gleaming with a touch of amusement. She had a reputation within the Gotei 13 for her skills and leadership, but here, among her family, she was simply Kakyō, the elder sister and the beloved aunt.

As Kukaku and Kakyō regaled Kazuki with stories of past adventures and humorous escapades, an atmosphere of familial warmth pervaded the Shiba household. Kukaku's animated accounts painted a vivid picture of Kakyō's numerous achievements, her evident admiration for her aunt evident in every word. The stories elicited occasional laughter from the group, their shared amusement adding a lighthearted note to the night.

Amidst the jovial storytelling, Yoruichi's keen perception picked up on a slight change in Kakyō's demeanor. Her laughter, although genuine, held a trace of melancholy that only a discerning eye could catch.

"Are you alright, Aunty?" Yoruichi asked, her voice a delicate blend of concern and affection. She was familiar with Kakyō's usual cheerful demeanor, and this slight departure from it did not escape her notice.

Kakyō exhaled a soft sigh, her eyes reflecting a fleeting shadow of worry. "Remember the friend I was telling you about?" she asked, her voice dropping slightly.

"The blind one?" Kukaku's voice cut in, her animated demeanor fading into an expression of earnest concern.

Kakyō nodded in affirmation. "Yes. Well, I feel that his mental health is not exactly good. He seems to be desperately searching for something to hold onto," she began, her tone somber.

Kakyō paused, collecting her thoughts before she continued. "While I want to be there for him, I fear if I become that person, he might spiral out of control if something were to happen to me. It's not uncommon for children to attach strongly to certain individuals or things. When they lose that attachment, they react strongly, sometimes throwing tantrums."

Her gaze shifted to Kazuki, her words hanging in the air like an unsaid prophecy. "But when such behavior manifests in an adult, it can become dangerous," Kazuki completed her sentence, his voice sober.

Kakyō nodded. "Yes. Tousen is a good man, but his mental state might lead to..."

She kept on talking, but Kazuki's attention was no longer with her. As soon as he heard the name Tousen, a peculiar sensation overcame him. It was as if he was falling, spinning into a rift that opened to his past - a past from an alternate dimension. It felt so dreamlike, yet dreadful. A sense of revulsion coursed through him, not as powerful as his reaction to Aizen, but significant nonetheless. His gaze remained unfocused, his mind turned inward, wrestling with the sudden storm of feelings triggered by that name.

Kakyō, attuned to subtle shifts in people's moods, noticed Kazuki's change. She paused mid-sentence, an eyebrow arching questioningly. Her gaze flickered between Kazuki and Kukaku, who seemed oblivious to his internal struggle. Her intuition told her that something significant had just occurred, but she also sensed that this was not the time to explore it.

"Aunty, are you really going to marry that jerk?" Kukaku blurted out, breaking the thoughtful silence that had settled in. There was an undertone of outrage in her voice that couldn't be missed.

Yoruichi nodded in agreement with Kukaku, her eyes narrowed in displeasure, "Tokinada is a snake, Aunty. Please reconsider." Her voice was soft yet firm, her sentiment clear and unwavering.

Kakyo sighed, her delicate features clouded over with a somber expression, "It's not my decision, you already know that. Grandfather agreed to their proposal, so unless something significant happens, I cannot turn it down."

Kazuki tilted his head in confusion, his sky-blue eyes flicking between the three women. The situation was unfamiliar to him, the layers of complexity catching him off guard. Sensing his confusion, Kukaku took upon herself to shed light on the situation.

"You see, Kazuki," she began, her voice echoing the seriousness of the situation, "Aunt Kakyo's potential marriage isn't based on love or even mutual respect. The Tsunayashiro Clan's young master, Tokinada, wants to marry Aunt Kakyo, and he orchestrated a devious plot that led the Shiba Clan into debt."

As Kukaku continued explaining the circumstances, the despicable nature of Tokinada's ploy became apparent. He had not only cunningly maneuvered the Shiba Clan into a corner but also used it as a bargaining chip to ask for Aunt Kakyo's hand in marriage. Now, the patriarch of the Shiba Clan was in no position to refuse this demand.

Throughout Kukaku's explanation, Kakyo remained silent. Her gaze was distant, her mind wrestling with the reality of the situation. However, she did not interrupt Kukaku, allowing her to narrate the unpalatable truth.

"The nobles of the four great clans," Yoruichi interjected with a disdainful sneer, "always have their eyes set on power and influence, even if it means sacrificing their own."

It was evident that the impending marriage was nothing short of a political arrangement, a pawn in the grand scheme of the noble clans. It was an unwanted burden that Kakyo had to bear, a reality she had to accept.

"Aunt Kakyo doesn't deserve this. She's kind, gentle...she deserves someone who values her, not a scheming rat like Tokinada," Kukaku said, her voice quivering with emotions.

Kazuki silently listened, his mind reeling from the revelations. The sinister machinations of the Tsunayashiro Clan had woven a tragic tale that was unfurling right before him.

"But Aunt Kakyo," Kukaku's voice held a desperate plea, "can't we do something?"

A deep sigh escaped Kakyo's lips, her expression remained calm, "Kukaku, Yoruichi, I appreciate your concern. Truly, I do. But unless something unexpected happens, this marriage seems inevitable."

The grim resolve in her voice reverberated around them. The cruel hand fate had dealt seemed to loom over their tranquil gathering, its dark shadow unshakable.

In the midst of this distressing discussion, the one thing that was undeniable was their shared concern for Kakyo. Despite the unsettling revelations and the looming threat of an unwanted marriage, their unity remained unbroken, their resolve unyielding.
