Reincarnated as a Carnivorous Plant

Chapter 11: Death

The forest clearing, once still with the silence of death, was now alive with the cacophony of buzzing wings and chittering legs.

Haeto stood—or rather, trembled—in place, his battered plant body barely upright.

The insects crept closer, their movements unhurried yet can make him feel deep pressure, each click of their tiny legs a taunting promise of what was to come.

"Get the hell away from me!" Haeto roared, his voice raw with fury and desperation upon knowing what they were going to do to him.

He won't let them!

"Hey! Hey! Hey!"

His shout soon echoed across the clearing, but the swarm… seemed to have paid no mind for his struggle pointlessly.

They move like machines with skittle legs, like engines.

Soon, Haeto cried again, "you son of a bitch, I beg all of you, I won't harm you all anymore as an exchange! Just let me off this time you tiny son of bitches!"

It wasn't a plea or a curse; it was a declaration, a challenge hurled at the merciless tide. But the insects weren't listening.

They weren't sentient beings capable of being reasoned with or cowed by threats.

They weren't nature's executioners, they would do it naturally as survival, and their verdict was already decided.

One of the bugs broke ahead of the group, its glossy carapace glinting faintly under the soft day light.

It moved with a strange, mechanical rhythm, as though guided by a singular, unyielding purpose.

Haeto's nonexistent eyes darted to it, his stem quivering as the insect approached. He cursed again, louder this time, "I'm still alive, you bastards! Get away from my stem!"

But the insect didn't care.

Suddenly, a shuffling sound broke Haeto's focus. His gaze snapped to the carnivorous plant beside him, one of the few survivors of the rat's rampage.

Or perhaps "survivor" was too generous a term.

The plant was battered and broken, its once-proud leaves now shredded, its stem sagging under its own weight.

The insect swarm noticed too.

Maybe because Haeto was struggling, so they went to another easy prey.

Haeto could do nothing but watch as the tide turned toward another plant, like it was saying you will become this way too. Give it up!

Soon, the insects converge on it like a wave crashing against the shore, but with violence and intent to devour.

The first insect climbed onto its stem, its tiny legs leaving faint impressions on the bruised flesh.

It paused, antennae twitching, as though savoring the moment.

Then, with a sudden burst of movement, it struck with its little mandibles.

Crunch.

The sound was sharp and visceral, a sickening noise that cut through the clearing like a blade.

The insect's mandibles tore into the plant's stem easily like paper, ripping away a chunk of its flesh like nothing.

"Stop!" Haeto shouted, his voice cracking. "It's still alive! I'm still alive!"

But the swarm didn't stop.

They became even more frenzied.

More insects joined the first, their tiny bodies swarming over the plant like ants on a fallen prey.

Their mandibles worked in unison, each bite tearing away more of the plant's body.

The plant shuddered, its leaves twitching weakly as it tried to fight back. But it was no use. Its strength was gone, drained by the rat's brutal assault.

The sounds were horrifying.

The wet tearing of flesh, the crunch of mandibles against stem, the faint, pitiful rustling of the plant's leaves as it struggled in vain.

Haeto's stem quivered violently as he watched, his mind racing with terror.

The insects didn't stop.

They didn't slow.

They consumed with a savage, unrelenting hunger, their tiny bodies vibrating with the intensity of their feast.

Within moments, the plant was reduced to a mere husk.

And then, even the husk was gone.

They tore it apart piece by piece, devouring every last scrap.

Not even the roots were spared.

The soil churned as the insects dug down, pulling up the delicate network of roots and shredding them to bits.

Haeto's nonexistent heart pounded in his chest, his body trembling with fear.

He had seen death before.

He had caused it. But this… this was something else.

This was annihilation.

It was like, if this thing happened to him, he would be forever going to be forgotten like he didn't exist. And he couldn't do anything about it but wait.

Not long, the swarm turned its attention back to him.

The first insect reached him moments later. Its tiny legs clicked against the ground as it approached, each step sending a jolt of terror through Haeto's body.

"No," he muttered, his voice trembling. "No, no, no…"

The insect climbed onto his stem. Its legs were sharp, like tiny needles pricking his flesh.

Haeto's body shuddered, his instincts screaming at him to move, to fight back. But his strength was gone.

He could barely keep himself upright, let alone fend off an attack.

The insect paused, its antennae waving in the air. Then, it struck.

Crunch.

Pain shot through Haeto's body, a searing, unbearable pain that made his stem quiver violently.

The insect's mandibles tore into him, ripping away a chunk of his flesh.

"You… bastard!" Haeto roared, his voice filled with pain and rage.

He bit back, his carnivorous maw snapping shut on the insect.

His teeth tore into its tiny body, crushing it with a wet, satisfying crunch. But the victory was short-lived.

More insects followed.

They swarmed over him, their tiny bodies a living tide that consumed him piece by piece.

Haeto's stem shuddered violently just like the plant before him as he tried to fight back, his maw snapping at anything that came near.

He managed to catch a few, his teeth crushing their fragile bodies with ease. But there were too many.

The insects were relentless, their mandibles tearing into his flesh with savage precision.

The pain was unbearable, a constant, searing agony that coursed through his entire body.

"Get off me!" Haeto shouted, his voice desperate. "I'm still alive!"

But the insects didn't listen.

They bit into his stem, his leaves, his roots.

Every part of him was under attack, his body a battlefield.

Haeto cursed and cursed, his voice growing hoarse as he tried to fend them off. "NOOOOOO!!! YOU LITTLE MAGGOOTTTS! GET OFFF ME YOU LITTLE WRENCHES!" But it was no use. His strength was fading, his vision growing dim.

The pain was overwhelming, a constant, unrelenting assault that left Haeto gasping for breath.

His body trembled violently, his leaves twitching as he struggled to stay upright.

But he didn't give up.

Even as his vision began to turn black, even as his strength faded, Haeto kept fighting.

His maw snapped at the insects, his body shuddering with each desperate attack.

He refused to give in.

He refused to let them win.

But his body betrayed him.

The darkness crept closer, swallowing the edges of his vision. His movements grew slower, his attacks grew weaker.

The pain… It was too much.

"I will kill you all.." he said weakly.

And that's the last thing he said as finally, Haeto succumbed to the darkness.

No point in fighting anymore.

It ended.

His life as a carnivorous plant ended.
