Chapter 132: 131: Odin And Asgard
A sky full of emerald butterflies scattered, glimmering in the sunlight like clusters of dancing crystals.
Mordo stared in astonishment as the butterflies brushed past his face. "Unbelievable... Lyon's Hoggoth's Form actually managed to block the combined Bolts of Balthakk from dozens of us!"
The same spell, cast by different sorcerers, can yield vastly different effects.
With Lyon's seemingly infinite genetic energy as his foundation, even a basic spell could potentially be amplified to planetary-level power if he so wished.
"Why are you all staring at butterflies? Are we in some sort of turn-based battle?" Lyon quipped at the stunned crowd.
"Now, it's my turn."
With a wave of his right hand, Lyon used the Form of Eikthyrnir.
But this time, he cast it on himself.
In an instant, thousands of copies of Lyon materialized, hovering in the air. Each of these clones held a weapon crafted with the slicing power of Oshtur's Fan.
Mordo's forehead creased with alarm.
He quickly signaled the sorcerers to erect another protective shield.
However, thousands of Lyons unleashed their magic simultaneously, wielding the cutting power of the fans.
In the blink of an eye, the protective shield shattered like a massive pane of glass, crumbling under the relentless assault.
The rest of the challenge was straightforward.
Lyon's magical clones teamed up two or three against one, quickly subduing the remaining sorcerers in just a few exchanges.
"The Sorcerer Supreme Challenge is over," Lyon declared.
When even the most resilient Mordo was finally subdued by one of the clones, Lyon snapped his fingers. All of his duplicates shattered along with the mirror dimension.
The hundreds of sorcerers reappeared on the training grounds.
However, they were either disheveled and dusty or staring blankly into the distance, seemingly detached from reality.
The disheveled ones were those who had been actively defeated by Lyon's magic.
Meanwhile, those dazed and spaced out were the majority—sorcerers who had been buried at the very start of the battle.
Their emotions were a complicated mix.
The death of the Ancient One was naturally a sad event.
Yet, the fact that their new Sorcerer Supreme was someone who could single-handedly defeat all of them was a cause for celebration.
The collision of joy and grief left their feelings tangled and confused.
And when they remembered that they were the ones who had just been utterly defeated by Lyon... their expressions grew even more conflicted.
Every sorcerer present had lost the will to speak.
At first, they had been worried that Lyon, their new Sorcerer Supreme, might lose face.
But it turned out that Lyon didn't even take the challenge seriously, and they had all been utterly defeated.
Someone who had only been practicing magic for a month was already far stronger than all of them combined—even if they counted multiple lifetimes' worth of training.
Sigh...
The training grounds fell into an awkward silence, broken only by the occasional sighs of the sorcerers sitting dejectedly on the ground.
Lyon, however, felt no guilt about the scene. On the contrary, he couldn't help but chuckle to himself, turning his head slightly to suppress a grin.
Walking over to Mordo, Lyon lightly kicked the big man's leg to get his attention.
"Well? What did I say? Told you I had this under control," Lyon said, raising an eyebrow as Mordo looked up at him.
Mordo fought the urge to sigh again, exhaling sharply through his nose instead. "The Ancient One really made the right choice in naming you the Sorcerer Supreme. First day on the job, and you've already beaten up every single sorcerer."
"You don't get it. This was necessary. A show of strength to establish leadership—uh, wait. No, this was clearly team-building!" Lyon corrected himself, his tone playfully confident.
"Team-building?" Mordo asked, confused.
"It's about improving understanding and camaraderie among the sorcerers."
"You call what you just did team-building?"
Lyon spread his hands. "After a good fight, everyone now has a deep impression of me. Admit it—this counts as team-building, doesn't it?"
"And besides," he added, clapping his hands to draw everyone's attention, "what just happened was only the beginning!"
Mordo flinched, half-expecting Lyon to announce another round of sparring, but instead, Lyon pulled out—seemingly from nowhere—a massive lobster.
The colossal crustacean was nearly five meters long and two meters wide.
"Thank you all for participating in the Sorcerer Supreme challenge. You've all worked hard! Now, let's have a simple dinner together!" Lyon declared.
His hands moved like steel clamps, swiftly peeling off the lobster's shell. Using magic, he conjured flames in the middle of the training grounds and began roasting the lobster right then and there.
Oil sizzled, meat flipped, and spices scattered in a flurry of practiced motions. The entire process flowed smoothly, almost like an art form.
Within minutes, the rich, mouthwatering aroma spread across the grounds. The lobster's golden, glistening surface left the gathered sorcerers wide-eyed and mesmerized.
"This," Lyon said, "is a special ingredient I brought back from another dimension. Everyone, have a taste!"
To fully embody the grandeur of the Sorcerer Supreme, Lyon decided to perform even the simplest tasks with a touch of magic. Summoning the Sacred Sword of Vishanti, he neatly sliced the massive lobster into perfect portions and magically distributed the pieces to everyone present.
The sorcerers took a bite and immediately sang Lyon's praises, giving enthusiastic thumbs-ups as they devoured their portions with gusto.
Dimensional beings?
The sorcerers were familiar with those.
But a dimensional lobster party? This was their first time encountering one.
Even the usually rigid Mordo hesitated before taking a bite. Once he tasted it, however, his demeanor completely changed, and he quickly devoured the remaining lobster meat on his plate.
After finishing their portions, the sorcerers couldn't help but glance at Lyon, their expressions betraying a mix of embarrassment and longing for more.
"Ah! My... my body!" Suddenly, an elderly sorcerer with a Taoist-style topknot leapt to his feet.
"What's wrong, Hamir? What happened to your body?" Mordo asked urgently, recognizing the elder and rushing over.
"Could it be that the lobster caused some kind of issue? Dimensional creatures shouldn't be consumed casually—"
"No! My body... it's healing!"
Hamir exclaimed, shaking his head in exhilaration. His topknot swayed with his movements.
He grasped Lyon's shoulder firmly with his only intact hand. "The damage my body suffered from using magic—it's recovering! This is unbelievable! Sorcerer Lyon, thank you. Thank you!"
As he spoke, Hamir bowed deeply in a formal sorcerer's salute.
Seeing this, the other sorcerers couldn't help but check their own conditions. They soon discovered that, beyond the warm, comforting sensation in their stomachs, their bodies had indeed undergone other changes.
— Stomach ulcers were healing, limb impairments were recovering, and even previously lost senses like smell and touch were showing slight signs of restoration.
"This is... incredible! What kind of meat is this? Which dimension did it come from?" exclaimed Daniel, one of the senior sorcerers, standing up in astonishment.
"It's from a dimension called the Swallowed Star," Lyon replied with a smile, producing even more lobsters.
"Don't worry, everyone! There's plenty more. One lobster per person—everyone gets their share!"
These lobsters were actually monsters from the Swallowed Star dimension's Earth. Their power levels were generally between apprentice ranks one and four.
When Lyon encountered them, the lobsters were crawling out of rivers, preparing to attack human bases. He had casually captured the lot, storing them in his internal world and raising them as a backup food source.
The lobsters were astonishingly resilient and carried the RR virus. However, after a simple purification process, Lyon had rendered them harmless and fit for consumption—essentially organic, green food.
Though still unsuitable for ordinary humans, these lobsters were perfect for the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj.
Each sorcerer received a giant lobster and was overjoyed. But soon, they encountered a major issue.
"What kind of shell is this? My cleaver's edge is rolling, and I still can't cut through it!" Wong, holding a butcher knife, looked utterly baffled as he attempted to chop the lobster shell.
They had no choice but to resort to using mystical spells to cut through the shells.
One by one, the other sorcerers showcased their abilities, now far more eager than they had been during the earlier challenge against Lyon.
Even the perpetually rigid Mordo began imitating Lyon, conjuring the Sacred Sword of Vishanti to slice the lobster meat, his expression unusually enthusiastic.
It couldn't be helped.
It wasn't that Mordo's strict principles had suddenly become irrelevant or that his respect for the Vishanti had diminished.
The real issue was that Lyon had simply given them too much to enjoy!
The lobster feast left the sorcerers thoroughly satisfied.
Even their grief over the Ancient One's passing seemed to fade along with the setting sun and the filling of their stomachs.
In that moment, Lyon gradually replaced the Ancient One in their hearts, becoming their new pillar of support.
If anyone dared to claim Lyon was unfit to be the Sorcerer Supreme now, these sorcerers would undoubtedly band together, ready to strike down the challenger with their mystical swords.
During the meal, no one had the leisure to engage in conversation. All were entirely focused on devouring the lobster meat.
Lyon, meanwhile, sat between Wong and Mordo. Taking advantage of their food-induced distraction, he subtly delegated the tasks of managing Kamar-Taj to the two of them.
"From now on, Wong, you're in charge of all internal affairs related to magical teachings. Mordo, you'll handle external crises. How does that sound?" Lyon declared with grandiose enthusiasm.
"From this point forward, you two will be my Demeurge and Albedo. Demeurge was the one to manage external matters while Albedo managed the internal. We're no less capable than them! Kamar-Taj will rely on you both from now on!"
"Alright, alright!" Mordo replied, feeling warm and content from the meal, his thoughts hazy. "But who exactly are those people you're talking about?"
Lyon casually made up an explanation. "They were the greatest guardians of the greatest sorcerer of a world I know! You both—"
He suddenly frowned and stood up.
"What is it?" Wong, still engrossed in his lobster, looked up in confusion, clearly enjoying Lyon's motivational talk.
"Someone's spying on me," Lyon said flatly.
"Who? Who dares spy on Kamar-Taj? Could it be a dimensional demon?" Mordo also stood, albeit reluctantly, unwilling to part with his lobster.
"No, it's Odin," Lyon replied, casually drawing a circle in the air.
A portal opened, revealing Odin seated majestically on his throne in Asgard.
"Oi, Odin, why are you staring at me like that?"
Lyon stepped through the portal into Asgard in a single stride.
