Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Spars
For the next week, Hijiri and Tobirama usually found each other to talk about ninjutsu and fuinjutsu.
Tobirama was studying fuinjutsu himself but, because of the constant battles, his studies took longer to accomplish. He had nonetheless a unique way of approaching both subjects and both of them profited from the conversations immensely.
On the last day before the Uzumaki and Hijiri had to return, Tobirama challenged Hijiri to a spar.
Hijiri accepted, hoping to meet a serious challenge.
They started in the training yard: facing each other from a few meters apart. With an audience from both Uzumaki and Senju.
Hijiri activated the byakugan while Tobirama took out the sword. When Hashirama, who worked as a referee, gave the start both sprinted towards each other.
The clash was underwhelming. Hijiri used his chakra-covered palm to block Tobirama's sword. Then he blocked the opponent's kick while using the new version of the Gentle Sealing Pulse.
And that's it.
Tobirama fell, completely immobilized by the seal on his leg's tenketsu. The audience was speechless. The battle was just too short. Soon they started murmuring between themselves wondering how Hijiri accomplished that.
Once Hashirama confirmed his victory, Hijiri released the seal on Tobirama.
(Tobirama): "What was that? After that kick, I felt all my chakra and body immobilized."
(Hijiri): "I called it Gentle Sealing Pulse. It allows me with every hit to place a triple-layered seal on the tenketsu of the opponent that completely incapacitates him. The only way to remove it is to have high attainment in fuinjutsu and even then it would take a few seconds. Seconds that in a hand-to-hand battle are fatal."
(Tobirama): "'You called it'? You mean you invented this style?"
(Hijiri): "Yup! Since we both haven't used a lot of energy do you want a rematch?"
(Tobirama): "Su…"
(Hashirama): "Wait. I think that now is my turn."
(Tobirama): "Brother!... Uff. Fine."
Like so the scene reappeared again. Only that now Tobirama was the referee and Hashirama was in front of Hijiri.
(Tobirama): "Start!"
Hijiri sprinted towards Hashirama while he maintained the distance and formed hand seals.
Hijiri had almost reached his opponent when, abruptly, he found himself dodging various wooden beams exiting the ground.
As Hijiri dodged the beams, Hashirama finished his ninjutsu: "Woof Release: Nativity of a Sea of Trees."
Immediately trees started sprouting all over the training ground, and vines came out of the trees, chasing after HIjiri.
Hijiri started running around trying to go around the vines and engage Hashirama in hand-to-hand combat.
Unfortunately, as much as he used the "Wind style: Gale Steps" and the "Body flicker jutsu" he couldn't come quite close to Hashirama and the forest was becoming thicker and thicker. Soon Hijiri found himself cornered.
(Hijiri): 'This is bad, I guess I should start getting serious.'
Hijiri quickly created a pair of Chakra Blades and blew on them with wind-infused breath: "Chakra Blade + Wind Release: Vacuum Blade = Wind Release Blades Mode"
Two four-meter-long blades of green Wind Chakra elongated from Hijiri's hands. He then started cutting at high speed all the vegetation around himself in a four-meter radius: "Nintaijutsu: Byakugan + Blades Mode = Death Zone"
(Hashirama): "Your close-range techniques are very impressive. But they are not enough to beat me."
Hijiri, after cutting himself some space in his half of the training ground, started forming hand seals. Hashirama in response stopped controlling the forest and started forming seals too.
They finished at the same time.
"Wood Release: Wood Dragon"
"Wind Release: Eight Trigrams Wind Mountain Crusher."
A wooden dragon, created from the towering trees around Hashirama, charged ahead.
Hijimi used the Wind Mountain Crusher a technique evolved from the vacuum palm that had nature transformation added. It resulted in a powerful beam of concentrated wind.
The two techniques met.
BOOM
The collision created a big curtain of smoke.
In the end, the Wood Dragon exited. It had a big hole in his stomach.
But soon it was closed and the dragon resumed his charge ahead towards Hijiri.
(Hijiri): "I surrender."
The dragon stopped,
(Hashirama): "Are you sure? You seem still in top shape."
(Hijiri): "Yeah. That was my strongest ranged attack. Now that it failed, I have no chance to strike you with one of my attacks, let alone win."
(Hashirama): "Okay, as you wish."
Only Hijiri knew that it was only an excuse. The real reason was that, if the Wood Dragon hit him and started absorbing his chakra, two of his most well-kept secrets would have been revealed.
